  • Popular Perth band Mark IV (not to be confused with many overseas bands with the same name) had just one single release to their name, but that one single became a double sided hit in their hometown, with both sides reaching #10. This heavy reworking of "It's For You" on the B side of "Groove With What You’ve Got" had been written by Lennon & McCartney for Cilla Black in 1964 as a follow up to her #1 smash hit "You're My World". However it would seem this is the first time Mark IV's version has been posted to UA-cam.
Band membership had often fluctuated during the time they were together from 1966-1971. Among members by this time was Kevin Smith (ex-The Cherokees, D-Coys). In 1969 Mark IV had won the local heats of Battle of the Sounds & moved to Sydney where they came 2nd to The Affair (with Kerrie Biddell) in the National Heats. While there they recorded this one & only single which was released in September 1969, hence it's appearance on Spin records, and produced by the great Pat Aulton rather than Martin Clark's Perth label Clarion which most of the local bands signed to. The band continued for another year or so but by 1971 it was all over

I'm not sure all of your info is correct Micko, I'll ask John Lemin to have a look at those dates. I was in the band from 67 to 69, after which I went in to radio. They didn't move to Sydney, they recorded there & came back to Perth. Thanks for the interest & for taking the time & doing the research for this site.

Had another single in 1972 called 'Let This Life Mean Something To Me b/w 'Gonna Get Hung'. Both originals and on Martin Clarke Records label.

Same name, different band I believe High Voltage, as this band broke up in 1971. There seems to have been quite a few groups who have used the name both here & overseas..Great to hear from you mate

@@Mickster19592009 Nah mate... Same band. The band broke up in Dec 1972.. Seeing as I've written a whole chapter on them in my forthcoming book and interviewed some members.. I'm pretty sure I'm right. There was 14 different lineups changes between 1964 and 1972 and one short lived spin off Mark IV when some members where fighting over direction, the band split in two. So two bands with the same name played at same time competing for their fan base for a couple months until one gave up. Always good to see your posts on YT.. keep it up.

Always a good formula to record a Lennon-McCartney song; pretty good version, this one.
