Maybe the funniest character in Strive. It’s so funny to lose 40 seconds of the round, lock tf in and two-touch anybody. Have not laughed at FG like that in ages

so from what i understand you need to store power in the Fun Gauge and once you have enough Fun it's your turn and the enemy dies
No, the gauge is your ENEMY'S fun gauge. When they are having too much fun, aba installs and the fun meter rapidly depletes.
I've been running sets with a friend's ABA as Asuka and 2D is ruining our friendship.
to be fair. Asuka 2D hits a mile away.

i really enjoy how you actually need to play in normal mode this time around, feels like a good trade off for no longer having self damage. you really get to be both david and goliath and its such a fun time.
She is the most volatile and psychotic character in the game and I love it, it’s either you get dumpstered at round start or you enter a transcendent state of flow and end the round in 10 seconds

I feel like at every point in the game, even when i’m getting cooked long range or at 10% HP, I can turn a game around as long as I can get install.
It’s a literal morphine shot turned into the form of an anime fighting game character. Including the addiction.
Man you should’ve played her in +R, every character is so broken and she’s way more busted
Fun gauge is always full when you transform into fun mode, but you literally just die against most characters if it runs out
You have EXTRA fun mode where you get to Gatling anything into anything, all your frame data is better, and you have the most busted pressure and combos in the game, and you get an extra air option, and double fun mode activation staggers on hit and is plus on block. Unblockable flip kick that sets up disgusting combos, and even more damage.
Normal mode was better in that game too because you have slide.
Most fun character I have ever played. Bought strive just to play her again and I love the new version but goddamn I used to be a straight fucking heroin addict stealing rounds from people

I've found Aba's gameplay loop of "figure out how to get into Jealousy Mode and then GGs" to give big dopamine energy. It's an entertaining dynamic of going from being very weak at round start to "screw it, we ball" by the end.
It's crazy how little she's changed. Her resource system is totally different but her core is the same.
Indeed, I legit only really miss her projectile at this stage as if she had that in Strive she would feel SO much better, and without it timing meaties and contesting in neutral is a larger challenge. Yet I fully understand the balancing act on why to exclude it as well given how much her install can even make Happy Chaos cry.

I think he's thinking of counter as an actual counter. I BELIEVE the purpose is entirely for the resource gain, so not being plus afterwards isn't an issue for its intent. Your offense IS having resource to just lay into your opponent repeatedly. It basically makes it so that you can punish mindless offense with you going right into install a ton

As a certified Floor 2 gamer, I must say that it feels great when you lock in and shit just works. Getting my ass beat for 90% of the round with COUNTER flashing everywhere, into 1 key grab where I proceed to become a menace

As an Asuka player on pad with nowhere near the speed to switch cards out with just my thumb or the situational awareness to keep up with other veteran players here, I had so much fun getting my ass beat by the funny Chipotle man. Ggs!
You can pause the video any time ABA's on screen and there's always something to look at in her animations.
I can’t wait for when people start to really figure out this character. I know we won’t be seeing a lot of you playing her, but I appreciate you showing her off Mr. Jam. Looking at how you approach is always informative and helps me structure my game plan by comparing what I do with what you do. I’ve been using 214K instead of Wild Assault when I get a 5H counterhit on grounded hit, but Wild Assault seems like it might be more consistent. Only time will tell.

While I’m learning the muscle memory for Moroha combos, I find it very helpful to call out each move and dánzai is always “do taxes”
at least with anji/pot there's not many occasions where you can utilize her slide to win neutral but I can definitely see it happening with asuka/bridget. parry seems intended just strictly to capitalize meter gain off opponent tossing out stuff carelessly like asuka cubes

Pot ABA matchup is so funny with how mobile it makes you realize pot is. He is flying around you the whole time. This is a real ass slow character

One of her main problems is trying to make sure you can keygrab twice to break the wall. Wall health is bizarre and I hate having to plan around it. Immensely fun character though!
The high and low crushes are guesses but she's very much like Anji in that she has more than enough health to do some guesswork. I think those are gonna be really important to her neutral in nm they just need to be well placed obviously
A.B.A has the sickest animations. GG has the most unique, fighter to fighter animations and fighting styles. You can't help but to appreciate it. I'm a tekken player who doesn't play any 2d fighters but GG is hands down my favorite 2D to watch.
Install into the her run is a jump scare every time! She's so slow and then she gets the murder zoomies

Paracelsus’ expressions are a constant perfect mirror of my expressions when trying to control this character.
People who don't follow the game sometimes have really weird takes. I remember a while ago someone saying that Goldlewis is a bad character, which is a wild take in the current meta.
I'm about 90% sure they specially designed A.B.A. with Wild Assault in mind as a gab closer. In absolutely no way would she have launched like this S2, I dont think.
Yeah, WA seems really important for her to either close the gap during pressure or to extend combos so that she can manage her Jealousy meter

People also thought Normal mode was too much of a problem for +R ABA to be good.
Then the right players discovered how to one shot you if they hit you during Mohora. People didn't find the right Orb FRC combos right away, it took a bit.
I'm sure the right people can optimize this character into greatness.
I have been really having fun with her non-install mode in Japan celestial. She is fun to make people stuck on block stun.

Low crush kick, high crush dash and an "armour" move to build meter. As long as she isn't getting rushed down she can survive until she starts cooking with gas. If she gets put in a corner with no resources? Life is misery.
Met a lvl 100 ABA yesterday and i gotta say once you know of all her moves and combos she is really dangerous. She loses to fast high range pokes like faust but if she can dodge it or endure it close enough she can do whatever she wants
Yup. As soon as you are in Abas kick range, every little gap in your offense can be a key Grab or reka into manual switch.

My first online match with A.B.A was Happy Chaos. Yeah. But other than that she is very fun. I know Danzai isn't the best to just throw out but it's SO tempting. She's probably my favorite stance change character since the differences are SO extreme, but obviously I have to work on using her best stuff in default to earn my fun later. Really happy with how she was handled here.

this is like the diametric opposite of potemkin in design while being the direct relative in terms of gameplay. very excited to see where she goes once people get out of the month 1 doom phase, as characters with stratified mechanics like this tend to get

I tried ABA for a few sets and realized that she wasn’t for me. I’d rather play my gorillas. At least until Slayer comes out. He is cool enough for me to go out of my way to learn him.

When the gauge is empty, and she goes back to normal, you can only block for a few frames, so anything else you try, she will just stan still

Fun fact, you can kara cancel ABA's rekka into a super. Makes it nice especially to confirm into the k super.
And if you get a stray k you can always be buffering rekka behind that.

I've been an +R A.B.A. main for 6+ years. I only had 80 hours in Strive at the time of A.B.A's release so I'm not the best Strive player but I have to say normal mode in Strive feels like 10x more stressful than normal mode in +R haha. Been getting used to it but +R normal mode A.B.A. does not feel nearly as helpless. Having a lot of fun with her though and enjoying my time in Strive with her, which is nice because I was not enjoying Strive much before.
This man is learning a new char and ya'll fiends bring Potempkin, Anji and freakin' Asuka as the first opponents.
That's some maidenless behaviour there.
Wild that they added a character with reasonable tradeoff to this game with characters that get to clown on you permanently with downsides so minuscule you'd have to get the hubble telescope to see

Playing Aba was already a Rollercoaster on +R, but it’s even crazier how she can go from “It’s Joever” to “WE’RE BARACK” and back to “IT’S FUCKING JOEVER” even more on Strive.
Any thoughts on the door super? I've seen some interesting usage here and there but I'm too new to tell if it's _actually_ useful.
I feel like giving her all these tools to dodge/armor through stuff but making none of them braindead free is going to be very good game design a month or two from now. The design overall is a huge success, lots of charm and appeal in the "juice" side, mechanically they clearly nailed the feast-or-famine and now it's just a matter of fine tuning it to a better spot. That said, I'd be surprised if she was ever anything above mid tier for high level competitive play. Tournaments are scary enough without having to deal with that normal mode, yeah? 😅

Been hard grinding this character and one of the bigger things I've noticed is how many people get caught off guard by install getting RC'd.
Gonna try this character in matches some more but I haven't won yet. I have a LOT to learn about the decision making because I don't really gel with this. Maybe my defense will get better from it.
I'm learning her as my secondary to counter characters that I struggle with as nago (e.g. HC, axl, faust) but looks like I'm still gonna struggle with her lol, half the time at least

From what I can tell, the Key grab definitely either needs more range or her normals in non-install need to do less pushback. Like, there are plenty of times when ABA gets someone knockdown in the corner while in install, but has to switch because they're about to run out of meter. Why can't regular ABA get just a little pressure without having to worry about whiffing a special after like 2 normals? She's plus after they block key grab, so it seems like it's also suppose to be a pressure tool. But, everybody who's played her whiffs it like half a dozen times per match whether they're trying to combo or pressure.
I think that's intentional. Remember that the key grab is positive on block while also being a massive resource gainer.
