    My main question...
    ARE YOU USED TO A SPORT BIKE??

  • @NeesaRides

    I love my Vulcan S 650. It was too quiet so I removed the stock exhaust and installed Two Brothers and it's really loud! Love it!

    I just took my 2017 Vulcan S on a 3000 mile trip. Longest day was 10 hours. The bike did great. The seat isn't very good but the 650 took on 80mph high way miles without any problem.

    I like the bike, but WHY is it a chain????? Belt or shaft would make it perfect.

      More power.

    • @RUN9943
      @RUN9943 4 роки тому +3

      Belt drive has power loss upto 40%. It is less maintenance but at the cost of power. With chain it is hardly 10%...

    I wear full sport bike gear on my Harley 48 and have started to notice a few other riders I pass every day wearing full armor now on their cruisers. I may have started something lol. I am sure you have tons of videos by now... I will go look but great job on your first review. The 650s is a great bike.

    Very thorough and good review. I’m considering downsizing from a bigger cruiser since I’m really not putting a lot of highway miles on it anymore and this bike is more suited to the backroads I ride most of the time. I rode it last weekend on a demo ride here at a local dealer and it was a blast. For the price, it looks like a winner. With ABS and that really good display it’s really a nice bike. I just have to get used to foot pegs instead of floor boards. I think I might put a windshield on but that’s probably it. Thanks again for the good review.

    Great review. The best part of it for me was hearing you say "I really like this bike" a few times. I could tell that it made an impression on you. The other good part was seeing how you settled into the bike even though you were unfamiliar with this style. Thank you

    Hey,
    Thanks for the review, good insight from a sportsbike rider. Some comments about the bike:
    +I've been riding the Vulcan S since March, I haven't noticed the vibrations that you pointed out. Might it be just a one off?
    +The engine is the same as the Ninja 650 and the Versys 650. Just different Cam profiles for better lower and mid range.
    +Absolutely try riding with a windscreen, it may look a bit dorky and ruins some of the lines of the bike but it makes things so much nicer for long haul rides.
    +Seeing as that bike did not have many miles on it, The dealer did not mind it not being broken in correctly?
    +Shifting does get better with synthetic oil after break in.
    +Two brothers exhaust on this bike will make it sound fantastic and perform a bit better off the line.

      First of all, thanks for taking the time to drop a comment, because everything you said was useful.
      1. I may have been too sensitive to it, and I'll keep that in mind for future reviews. I was trying to think of it as if I had to ride for 2 hours. I think my feet would be tingling. I was trying to make the point that at all RPMs, the motorcycle engine vibrations would travel through the foot pegs into the riders feet.
      2. +1 good comment
      3. I'll try to if I get a chance.
      4. The dealer was provided with a "demo bike" and they are there specifically for test rides.
      5. I believe that, and I also think a lot of it was human error as well. I wasn't used to having my feet in front of me.
      6. Others have told me this as well.
      Anyway, sorry for the delayed response. Thanks again, and I think your comment can help potential buyers as well

    Thanks for the review. I've been eyeballing this one as a first bike. At 6'2" with a 34" inseam I've been a little worried it would be small on me but I think the extended reach is gonna be the ticket.

    I’m a novice. Owned a bike for a couple years in 1985-86’.
    Only have ridden a friend’s bike several times over the years since. Three days ago I bought the 2019 Vulcan 650s ABS, in Storm Cloud Blue. Now, 368 miles in 3-1/2 days just local, mainly rural roads. I can attest , this bike is easy for a novice such as myself.

    There are
    2 diferent handlebars,
    3 different foot peg settings,
    2 different seats/adjustments,
    so You have 2*3*2 = 12 different setups to address your needs.

    Nice job, and it's refreshing to hear a review from someone enjoying a completely new experience. The review comes through as honest and "cliche'" free. Your enthusiasm and surprise as you discover different features and characteristics of the bike add to the overall enjoyment and style of the review. Thanks for letting us ride along with you!
    By the way, I ride Cruisers. I've only ridden standard or Cruiser Bikes, and have never been on a Sport Bike. They just look incredibly uncomfortable to me. I've put a lot of miles on over the years, and at one point spent over a year and a half on the back of a bike travelling around the Western US. I put a little over 115K miles in about 3+ years back in the day on that bike. I've had Hondas to Harleys to a Yamaha Virago 750 which I bought new in 1981. Still have that Yamaha, but currently ride a restored Honda Aero 1100, and a Honda Sabre 1100. Both are V-twins.
    Good job, I look forward to seeing more of your videos.

    Sport bikes suck. Torture racks. And cop magnets. And SERIOUSLY over represented in accident statistics. I got a Vulcan S to replace my worn out (123,000 miles) Vulcan 750, and it is definitely capable of cross country travel at freeway speeds. My one big issue is chain drive and no centrstand. You have to jack it up to maintain the chain. They should have at least made a centerstand optional.

    one thing I hate Is the options ,,,,,, things that should have been standard like passenger foot pegs and a passenger seat and the markup for a small piece of metal that should cost 5 0r 10 dollars cost several hundred

    Engine braking is definitely hard! You need to be light on the throttle twist. Vibration is also something to contend with. I'm adding grip puppies to help a bit. The rear brake take a bit too much pressure to stop quickly.

  • @RaoufHasan

    Thanks for the great review, but one thing people don't ever do in reviews is say their height and weight. I'm 6 feet tall and 200 and chunky pounds and I have a hard time imagining many of my types riding certain bikes. Then when people start saying they can flat foot it or it feels good and all, I really can't compare, it would greatly help if it was mentioned :)

    I found the highway portion useful. You seem pretty preoccupied with people looking at you. They are probably saying, "look at the idiot on that motorcycle" Unless they ride, to which they will be checking out the bike, not you. Just sayin. That's what I think when people look at me on my bike. BTW don't wait till your back is hurting to get a proper bike. It'll be too late by then.

      Good to hear. I am coming from an R3, to a Hypermotard 1100s, and am looking for cheaper maintenance and more ergonomics. My speed demon days are over; I just want something comfortable to ride on the open road/city commuting. Are you able to lane split where you are? If so, does the bike feel really wide to go between lanes?

    I'm actually looking at getting this bike. Does it feel like it has enough power and won't get boring? It's either this or fz-07

    • @PAYDAYSWAGGER
      @PAYDAYSWAGGER  8 років тому +1

      It all depends. What have you rode in the past? It has plenty of power to have fun accelerating out of turns. It also has power for simple around town riding, and passing power on the highway. It is faster than a ninja 300 or a Honda Fury. The fz-07 would be most likely be more fun as far as acceleration goes. I am openly biased towards sport bikes, but it is up to you whether or not you want to ride a cruiser. If you are taller than average, the Kawasaki Z800 was a lot of fun and very quick for only being $8,399. I had a chance to ride a GSX-S1000 and really enjoyed it. It's $9,999 though... I haven't had a chance to ride the fz-07 before.

    Extremely helpful review. Great job and thank you! I'm a new rider and I'm looking into getting a bike and I really love the way this bike looks and I've heard a lot of good things about it. Only issue is that it's not great for highways. I'm a soldier stationed 50 miles away from the nearest town. I'm normally driving to places on a highway 1-2.5 hrs and in the review you said you wouldn't drive it for more than 30 mins on the highway. What's the reason? is it because of the wind?

    • @PAYDAYSWAGGER
      @PAYDAYSWAGGER  8 років тому

      Thank you for you service, man. Seriously. To your question though, wind and it being a lightweight bike. You have to take an MSF course anyway, right? Do that, and then test ride a Vulcan for yourself. If you do that, I think you can decide whether or not you want to be on it for that long. Honestly though, I think you would be happy.

    • @yasira9428
      @yasira9428 8 років тому +1

      Thank you for your support! I appreciate it. Right, I'll do just that, take my MSF and test ride one. So far looking at the market and what's available I think this might be the best option for me, but of course riding the Vulcan and making that decision is a whole different story. Thanks for the reply.

      you aint going to get a stable highway bike unless you spend big bucks..i have ridden a naked bike a faired bike and a cruiser all decently prices and decently sized engines and they all push around in the wind a bit that is just the nature of a midlevel and entry level bikes. only the real big heavy expensive bikes can ride smooth like cars and depending on where you live i have been blown around by wind in personal vehicles too so what can you expect any bike to do lol Just dont ride in crazy wind otherwise it is not to bad and the nature of the beast.

    Enjoyed the video. We all can read a spec sheet so the focus on the riding experience is appreciated. I have had my 2016 Vulcan SE for a year now and would say your observations on the bike hold true, at least for me. I would add that a couple of features that I have really appreciated about the bike are the adjustable levers and the positive neutral (when stopped clicking up from first goes straight into neutral without ever going past into second). Cheers.

    I cant walk and chew gum at the same time. Excellent review. We bought the Electric Candy Lime one for her with ABS. Its name is Kerminator. We have not ridden it yet.There is still snow on the ground. We all cheered when you gave'er berries, so we could here what she sounded like.

    I've just bought this bike and getting to love it. I agree with you about the vibrations thru the pegs....something engineers need to remedy. Otherwise its a blast

    Thanks for taking the time to do this review. I've been thinking about getting a cruiser as my first bike and have been looking at the Vulcan S for a while now. This review has made my mind up to get one. The ergo-fit sounds perfect too as the Kawasaki Vulcan S would be my first motorbike. Thanks once again.

    So this bike wouldn't be good for driving on the highway for a longer trip 3-4 hours.. I really want a beginners bike and this one is on the top of my list so far for next year but I live in chicago and we have a cabin in Wisconsin about 4 hours away from here and I would like to cruise it there once in a while.. Obviously taking a break or two on the way up..

    • @PAYDAYSWAGGER
      @PAYDAYSWAGGER  8 років тому +1

      You could do it, but if it is 4 hours of interstate riding there are better bikes for taking long trips like that. Try to test ride one and see what you think

  • @christiancartmale1150
    @christiancartmale1150 7 років тому

    you'd want to change the footpegs I imagine, something with meatier rubber, or a mini floor board. I saw a stryker with these 1/3rd floorboards, not quite a board, not quite a peg, really comfortable.

    • @PAYDAYSWAGGER
      @PAYDAYSWAGGER  7 років тому

      +Christian Cartmale I didn't know the "1/3rd floorboards" existed. Thanks for pointing that out!

    Hey all, just a quick question. could I use the Vulcan outside of the everyday commuting and joy rides, and go on a long distance trip covering a couple hundred miles in a day? I really like the Vulcan and it will fit my budget, just need some reassurance when it comes down to longer rides

    • @PAYDAYSWAGGER
      @PAYDAYSWAGGER  8 років тому +1

      Yeah what Joe said. I also am not sure how much storage you could have on that bike. Its a fun curvey highway bike. I wouldn't enjoy being on an interstate more than 50 miles on that bike though IMO

  • @EBthere

    Payday, good job on this review. I have to ask though, why would you not want to ride this bike for more than 30 minutes on the highway? I'm guessing because of the wind on your chest?

    • @PAYDAYSWAGGER
      @PAYDAYSWAGGER  8 років тому

      Yep, the wind, and also because its a light bike and you get blown around a little more

    I wish I had the money for this bike. Frigging kitchen needed to be fully gutted out and cost a fortune. I'll continue riding the Rebel in ways not many people dare to ride it (55 mph roads in the mountains).

      +Matthew Sharp like I mentioned, its light weight leads to being blown around a lot. Some people ride them for 100s of miles on the interstate though

      Matthew Sharp I ride my 415 pound FZ-09 on the highway and don't mind it. I'd cruise the highway all day with a Vulcan S.
