My head canon was that Humungus was actually the Chief of police from the first film, since he was already bald and muscular
The chief was a fat slob with a gut. Are you mad??? 🤔
Sounds better than the Goose theory some people made up.
@@thomasbentley4757 agreed he was burned severally, he should have scar tissue
@@thomasbentley4757 Goose was burned
@@howardmartinez2564 Yes, a cooked Goose
Humongous being Max's police boss makes more sense, height and everything.
yes Fifi makes more sense.
Fifi was too old..and that Germanic accent kinda throws everything off.
How did he get so jacked without a gym ?
@@ghostofsparta291 normal hard work or just plain luck to be born with the right pysique.
seen it before with guy that where ripped but never sat a foot inside a gym, he said it saved alot of time and money to be built rigt from the start rather then spend alot of time and build muscles.
@@extec101 but if its the same guy who was max boss in the first movie , he was skinny . It takes a lot of the right foods to get jacked and ripped genetics aside
My favorite line in the movie… “This Humugus seems reasonable.” Always gets a laugh out of me
Yeah that's funny. A reasonable man
the old man thought he could reason with Humungus.
Watched the movie for the first time yesterday and it was my réaction to laugh about it as well xD
The old Sargent:I will speak with this humongous.....he seems like a reasonable man.😂😂😂
Back in the day, I harboured a thought that Lord Humungus was Max's Police Captain... that might have a been a better reveal? If it had been Goose, the rest of us would have been asking how he grew his skin back- remember Max's reaction to seeing Goose in hospital "that's not Goose"?
I’ve always thought it was goose when the showed the back of lords head it looked like burned skin
02:44 that makes far more sense.
You took the words right out of my mouth!
"That thing in there, thats not the Goose."
@@Timcanniff311 if you recall, when Max went to see Goose at the hospital, Goose's badly burnt arm slipped out, and one of the most brilliant camera works of Georg Miller
I was always amazed how Lord Humungus was able to live almost naked in the hot sun and never burn or tan.
Or in the case of the filming during winter not freeze
It was shot during Winter in Australia
because it´s carnívore lol
He later lost his nose, gained an accent, changed his mask, & went to Gotham.
Right. I was just thinking why am I the guy who made Jason , Humongous and Bane his heroes? I dig villains who cover their faces bc they’re so powerful. Or they present strength behind their madness/genius. I don’t know. But I’ve always desired super human strength and a great mask and intellect. Jason is dumb. He’s just badass so he walks through traps. Lol
I was more partial to Michael Meyers.
I can see it now.
The Batman wins again.
That's it I'm going to Australia.
There now way they are crazy as that guy.
Nah,he went to Gotham years before and had one night stand creating his noseless bastard son who would run the US side of the family empire
As much as I would have loved it if Humungus had been Goose after his burns, I think it's better in hindsight. It's obvious that this inspiration came from Darth Vader's backstory and anyone would have recognized that immediately. It was probably abandoned early in the script, since Humungus clearly has no burns on his body (apart from vague scars on his head and diffuse hair loss).
So Goose got rid of all his burns on his body put a load of muscle on and grew a few inches. Magic.
Was going to say the same thing but you beat me to it.
Bc they decided not to go that route. It wasn’t a mid production call
I mean this dude is totally grasping at straws... 😂👎
He also picked up an Eastern European accent
Well, hospital do use steroid to treat skin burn wounds.
Fifi: "So the Goose bought it,.that's how he always came at the world!"
Yeah, Jim.Goose died.
Sorry if Goose was burnt so badly how did his entire body get "repaired....even his hands"?
Precisely ! If anyone watching this video has watched the original mad max goose was a full on straight up bruce a complete aussie and after getting set on fire and max visits him in hospital you see the outline of goose and he is a mess and judging by max reaction goose isn't getting better anytime soon ! But then this theory comes up and I just don't get it ! He looses his thick aussie accent grows about a foot bigger ! Gains about 6 stone of pure muscle! And completely regeneration of healthy pure looking European skin ! But yeah shit man look at his head it must be goose ! Wtf !
steroids and lots of it
Stimpaks :D
He was mutated by radiation. Somewhere in the Fist of the North Star universe ;)
@@RobbyPattersonan otaku here?! Im not alone then!😅
11:54. I wonder if Lord Humungous' collar was primarly used to protect his vulnerable throat, or if it implies that he suffered a neck injury at some point and required a brace to support his head.
Either way, it looks great on him.
Who was the officer that had his throat injured during the chase with the Night Rider(Nightrider)?
@@thomasbentley4757 His name was Charlie, he "copped a sauce pan in the throat".
The police cheif wore a hankerchief on his neck in the first movie for sum reason
Humongous is NOT goose. I’m not even sure he’s military… that gun case felt older than the film’s setting
If you pause on the scene where he opens the case, you will see his military photo or maybe his fathers military picture in black and white, next to a woman. @ 3:42
The case also has a few medals and the buttons from his dress uniform. Only someone with sentimental value to those objects would hold on to them. So I can buy into the whole military type storyline.
@Saintbow not to mention his apparent fanatical devotion to body health... 😏
@@Saintbow that's what I mean.... I think he just acquired the box and fetishises it: because it's a cool gun with ammo.
I've always thought that case was not an heirloom but an affectation
I think Humongous would've kept the gun a case simply because it was an impressive item, which seemed few and far between at the time. Likely picked off of an unwitting victim somewhere down the line. He's merely a mean dude with exquisite taste,as most villains are.
Since this 1981 movie took place in a 1970s idea of a futuristic version of the 80s, many of the older people in the film are implied to be of the World War II generation. The Curmudgeon (old man with the green helmet and military medals) probably fought the Japanese in World War II. Given the gun restrictions in Australia and the presence of many historical firearms for hunting purposes, I suspect Humungous's gun case is also from the WWII era.
I always figured Lord Humungus wore the mask because of radiation damage but as a side affect was unusually strong because of it also, Immortan Joe was a awesome villian but Lord Humungus will always remain my favorite, I was pretty young when I first saw the road warrior and just absolutely blew my mind and still 42 yrs later is one of if not my favorite movie of all time. This was awesome thx for doing this.
Just seen Furiosa, worth every cent. Action packed non stop excitement. No weak points. Will go a second time.👍
Humongous was way too badass to be just a cop. A military general or special forces captain suited him a lot more.
Lord Humungus has a messed up face, Goose was crispy all over
" Greetings from The Humongous. The Lord Humongous. The warrior of the waste land. The ayatollah of rock and rolla!"
I think he's way to big to have been Goose, but it's an interesting theory. I used to think his appearance was the result of radiation exposure because I thought Road Warrior took place after a nuclear holocaust, only to find out later that the nuclear devastation occurs after Road Warrior, but before Beyond Thunderdome.
The timeline of the nuclear holocaust has changed with the movies (not uncommon when a franchise develops over decades), but Road Warrior has always been described as taking place in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. I've always assumed Humongous wore that mask for the same reason he wore the leather thong and leather harness - it's just part of his personna.
and those skin graftsn were amazing no sign of 3 degree scar tissue at all , what a stupid theory
Goose was hardly alive and well at the hospital. Damn, dude was in an iron lung…
Agreed. Goose may have been alive, but he was not WELL, by any stretch of the imagination.
@@andrewkaye2108I agree 😂😂😂
No way it's goose. Goose was small guy, Humongous is a BIG dude...over 6ft easily.
@@joemoss5138 Goose was maybe 5,11. Is that what you small dude?
Humongus was a Canadian hockey player that was visiting Australia just before all hell broke loose hence the goalie mask.
Is it a hockey mask I always thought it was a gladiator mask but could be a hockey master like Jason
It's Jason! After he came out of the closet and embraced his true self - gay leather daddy. 🤣🤣
The goose “twist “ would have been shallow, silky and trite. Making the mad max universe so small that all is Australia consisting of like 29 people
There’s more than 29 Australians?!?! God help us…
I’ve been obsessed with your channel forever but these Mad Max ones hittin different!!! Do more pls
"I am greatly disappointed in you! Again you have made me unleash my dogs of war!" - Lord Hugh Mungus
The Goose speculation is so stupid. Why the hell do nerds need everything connected nowadays? Humungus is just a big muscular dude who rules a portion of the Wasteland. That's it; that's all that's needed.
He's not Goose. Too many flaws in that theory.
So "Goose" can get an entire body makeover with perfect skin grafts?
I don't think "Humongous" is anyone from Max's old unit.
His station commander is too highly principled to turn into a wasteland scavenger and "Goose" to burnt up and in love with motorcycles to even think about driving that contraption.
Also, something that is a big plot hole for "Mad Max 2" is that the Humongous spend more fuel driving round and round the refinery than they are likely to replace, and for all the lack of everything in the "wasteland", they don't seem to have any problems with putting some of these vehicles back together after one of the many accidents, or supplies of lubricants either. They don't seem to have a food source either, and for that matter neither do the good guys. For the "gang", just getting enough water would be a struggle for their own consumption as well as the vehicles, and "radiator coolant" also would seem to be in short supply.
I think humongous was Max's boss from the first movie.
Captain Fifi
And what!? Max retains his moral compass!? Did you miss the first movie? Max lost his moral compass and killed for revenge and then vowed to care about no one. It was his loss of humanity that made the first movie.
I don't think Miller has actually stated that Lord Humongous was for sure going to Goose. Especially since the actor who played Max's boss, Fifi, was offered the role of Humongous.
If you look at the leather daddy aesthetic, charismatic oration, general build, and the twisted sense of punishment for the deserters from the rig. All signs point to Humungus being Captain Fifi McAfee, Max’s former commanding officer. Still trying to “Give them their heroes back”
Only problem is that in a deleted scene from the 1979 film it is confirmed that McAfee and everyone else at the Halls of Justice (Roop, Charlie, Labatouche) are killed when Toecutters gang attacks the Halls.
Goose, cannot be Humungus because Goose is missing a Leg.
Roop and Charlie were in Fury road prequel comics.
You can see Lord Humungus's face by looking up the action figure from Road Warrior set
OUT OF ALL THE MAD MAX MOVIES ROAD WARRIOR HANDS DOWN IS THE BEST OF THE MAD MAX MOVIES I HAVEN'T SEEN FURIOSA YET BUT I'VE SEEN THE FIRST FOUR THR IA TOLA OF ROCK N' ROLLA 😮
Though having him be Goose is intriguing, at the end of the day it wasn’t fleshed out because it didnt propel the plot as it was and would have taken the story to a different place.
It was about Max helping the refugees get out safely, not having a 1 to 1 fight with Humungous.
That said, it would have been awesome to see that if it was Goose, but again it would have been a totally different movie.
I am so glad someone pointed out that the goose is still alive 😂😂😂
So was Max's wife. I doubt either would have survived though.
I recently watched the original movies and dont know why, but the silliness but also somehow intimidating presence of Lord Humungus made it one of my favorite villians in movie xD
The Lord Hunungus and Wez deserve their own prequel
plot twist.
humungus is actually fifi , who after max vanished, grieved his loss set fire to the police station but was saved against his will, turning him insane.
he rounded up the remaining bikers got the intercepter mechanic to build his charriot and took off after max, slowly taking in more gang members in a ghengis khan like join or die, every day growing further from the police chief.
seeing max he realises, there worlds can nolonger be one, hence he does not try and persue max first time, and delays upon throwing his spear. until forced into a head on unintentionally
To me he's the police chief in the first mad max. The red gair, the big body and the gimmicks.
I alway thought it was maxs former boss fifi
I always thought he could have been Fifi MacAfee. When Humungus said "You disappoint me puppy." it's appears that he possibly knows Max. It can't be Goose, he was too badly burned to have healed that well, his skin on his body, not just his head, would have shown the scars for life.
Thunderdome gave more thought into the back story of Blaster then Road Warrior gave to Humungus it was the handicap guy from the first movie whose mother was killed for Blaster of Master&Blaster a small detail easily missed but still a detail that was always in the movie
Did Lord Humongous just purposely aim at the steel plate on that Mack truck? It looked like Humongous was aiming at the cab and then his eyes shifted down, like he didn’t want to kill Max at that time.
humongus realized the driver was replaceable, but the truck was not
Cool editing. I never thought Goose was Humungus. It's like saying Gyro Captain was Jedediah. Besides, if you listen carefully to the dialogue in the first Mad Max, Fifi says that "the Goose bought it" meaning he died.
Lord humongous is the friends we made along the way
Goose was alive but he was not well.
😂 that outfit alone (studded panties and suspenders) deserves a video of its own 🤪
There’s some movie franchises that I will watch regardless of how many they make. Mad max, avengers, pirates of the Caribbean.
There was clearly brilliance left on the cutting room floor of Road Warrior.
Given many of the biker gang extras were the townsfolk of the previous movie.
It is likely at one point the films reveal to Max was along with Goose leading the biker gang, but most of the biker gang were once the townsfolks Max and Goose once defended.
The idea being Max having to fight his former best friend and the people he once protected, whom have gone terminal crazy, to protect a group of civilians that are still sane.
Seeibg how Furiosa is doing at the box office, I think another film is looking more doubtful.
Miller should have made another Mad Max film. We really didn't need the Furiosa backstory, given we know the ultimate outcome in Fury Road.
The Goose was burned all over his body beyond recognition while on life support...
I don't even know why this channel is even entertaining the thought that the guy could be The Goose...
It's absurd...
He couldn't be Goose. The body wasn't burnt, Goose wasn't that large, and Gooses fingers were gone.
He would have looked different had they gone that way.
While Road Warrior is the more popular, I really think the first one is the better of the two. The IRL bond "Toe Cutter's gang" developed driving their part of the props across Australia shows in the movie.
That and there's a certain poetry to watching a guy's entire world get destroyed over the course of a few weeks...
Because the filmmakers needed a good iconic villain and by putting him behind the mask it gave the mysterious look that they needed to captivate people and get them to make videos of it like 50 years later asking why he would be doing that when it's not real. It was an actor wearing a mask because that's what the director wanted. LOL
Just bring back Mel all already! That’s what everyone wants!
This…is just the best channel. Bravo.
If you look at the background characters and the vehicles, you'll see there are A LOT of former police in Humungus' clan! I'm not sure I'd buy the Goose backstory, but he's certainly a former cop, having brought a lot of former cops with him!
Toecutter is still my favorite bad guy. He's easy to hate, which makes a great villain.
Toecutter is Imortan Joe. Not literally of course, but the same actor for both characters.
@@kirkmyers2116 I know. It's really cool that they brought him back
Amazing how George Miller correctly predicted Texas in 2025. 😂
Too bad he didn't have SOME kind of back story. He was/is an interesting character.
Goose was charred completely, Humungus wears a mask. Did the doctors pull out a miracle to mend his body but didn't bother with the face!?
Also, hope the next Mad Max will be about Max, not a random chick.
Unfortunatly i think we seen it all and there wont be more Max sequels. Miller is old and the last 2 movies did not make a huge profit. Furiosa straight out bombed even.
The goose was burned up to the 3rd° and the Lord humongous has no scars on his body!!!
If you notice there are many of the gang members who are wearing Main Force Patrol uniforms or items of uniform as well as driving MFP vehicles. Likely many threw in their lot with Humungous after things went to crap - or the uniforms are stolen, by I prefer the idea that they used to be cops. George Miller has confirmed that Humungus was initially supposed to be Goose and he was in the first draft of the script, but this idea was dropped very early on.
its more likely fifi that is humungus.
Looking at Goose in the hospital scene, the way his limbs were all curled up, he looked like he was seriously burned all over his body. Lord Humungous may have a seriously burnt face with disfiguring scars but it's obvious his body wasn't touched. I'd even say that Goose probably didn't survive those burns, sure, we didn't see him die but that doesn't mean he didn't die off screen. Sorry, but Max's Goose was cooked.
“Who is the man behind the mask?”
Well played, sir.
That's one of the most ridiculous movie theories I've ever seen:
Lord Humungus used to be Jim Goose?!
Impossible, as Jim Goose's entire body was burnt beyond recognition in the first Mad Max movie , and Lord Humungus' body doesn't look burnt at all.
He also looks a lot taller and muscular than Jim Goose.
Moreover, when Max visited Jim at the hospital, it was clearly that Jim dies from his burn injuries, as his arm falls motionless, causing Max to go into a partial shock.
Great video.
Sadly, I doubt a 5th Mad Max movie will go into production after the dismal box office performance of Furiosa. But hopefully, I am wrong, and we get to see The Wasteland.
Goose being Lord Humungus would’ve been a R E A C H. Shit would pull us all out of the film
No way was he Goose...the Goose was burned to a crisp (we all saw his buggered up hand), and yet somehow he turns up with a body like Arnie, with just a lack of hair being his "issue".
Humungus needed to go to the bullet farm and refill is ammo box for that pistol!
The Wasteland is likely going to be an anthology mini series focussing on known and new characters.
Nux prequel, downfall of society, tales of wasteland tribes, etc.
The chariot in the Furiosa movie is shaped just like Humongous mask. Might be one of the better reasons to watch it😂❤
Jim Goose was solid honorable man that would never had gone to the evil side.
Yes he was the most decent cop from the first movie.
Max dumped his charisma on character creation Humungus and Immortan Joe didn’t.
one thing I like about these movies is to see what villains and their wacky names they're are going to have
Its pretty clear that the idea of Goose being underneath Humungus mask was dropped pretty early on as Humungus final look chosen for The Road Warrior aswell as the choice of the actor does not reflect this connection one bit. Certainly it would be more than a bit implausible that Goose magically got a new perfectly unburned skin for his entire body except his head and then turned into a post apocalyptic body builder right afterwards.
A great video as always. But for info the skull and crossbones army badge in his Gun Case would more than likely be 17th and 21st Lancers at the time of the photo. A British Regiment which has changed through the years to now being the Queens Own Lancers. Their motto is Death or Glory. Although similar to the Nazi Totenkopf (Skull) or Deaths head as we know it in the UK. It’s a different style. Although can be confused with Nazi badges if unfamiliar with British Regiments. It would actually go with the Photo and other medals which all appear British/commonwealth as you said.
Every time I see Wes, I think of his character’s cameo in Weird Science. 😅😅😅
This is a retrofitting of a modern narrative sensibility onto a 1980s film, whereby 'everything' has to be linked. Miller wanted to minimize explicit connections between the films and cast Max more as an eternal mythic hero. In truth, Max could be a different person in each film, and that's why some actors appear again in different roles between 2 and 3. They're not the same person, just archetypes. As is Max.
Always felt he was too clean for that world and with limited resources no one would have a build like that in an apocalypse.
Right or how do they waste so much gas
Nobody in the U.S. saw Mad Max so they had to cut this as well as the name Mad Max.
I was wonder if the compound eventually grew into Gastown seen in Fury Road and Furosia.
He has a mustache underneath.
I saw this movie around 1983 for the first time it was also about the same time as The Terminator had come out in theaters. I believed for the longest time that Lord humongous was played by be Arnold Schwarzenegger, given the accent and his physique. Many people I talked to believed the same thing, it was again a few years later that I found out it was not, it was actually Kjel Nilsson.
That was merely an early idea, but was scrapped. Humungus was not Goose.
When the Humungus opens his revolver case the wedding photo in the case looks to have a man in a ww2 German uniform... If this happened in what probably would have been the late 70's /early 80's.... The Humungus could have been in ww2, in his 60's & in really good shape.... Goose's fingers were melted off in Mad Max....
That might have work but Goose had an Australian accent and Lord humongous has a German accent what the hell?? Should have been his boss the big guy
I want Mel back as a latter day Max. Could be an interesting return.
My theory is I always thought him as Jason of the badlands. What happens when crystal lake dries up.
Never mind how Goose could have survived; no full body guzzaline burn victim in our time ever managed to regrow a full body of unscarred skin. There is not a doctor in the world who could do this. Goose becoming Joe on the other hand...
Before BANE, the Lord hummgus was the Man!
Humongous being Goose or his Chief would've been lack luster. Not knowing who he was makes him more epic and mysterious.
I Believe the gun case belongs to his father.
Military man with the leftovers of his unit as a start makes more sense given the leadership qualities implied and i dont believe goose could build that muscle
Your right it's says this in the script draft
He seems like a reasonable man
His Goose got cooked!
The actual reason is that the physical actor was a Swedish body builder that didn't speak English. It was easier to cover for the voice actor
Mate, can I ask you, why, for the love of God did they change all the soundtrack in MM1? Its the best film ever, the soundtrack was amazing . . . Good video, I've subscribed. Pete 🏴
Lord Humongous was an angry ex pro wrestler formerly known as sid vicious. He retired and led a gang to rule the country waste lands geeze pll
Ok now, I’ll agree that Goose was possibly alive at the end of Mad Max but I don’t think he’d be considered “well” in any shape or form.
I always thought he was the biker that Max burnt in the original film, but that was the view of a child.
