They do this up in SuttonsBay just north of Traversecity, they have a course set up in the harbor. There is a regular club that meets to do it. I remember seeing them years ago. I honestly dont know if they still do it but best guess would be yes. I personally like the motor driven boats but being this area is loaded with lakes and bays its easy to see how everyone can find something to fit their hobby interests. I built a static plank on plank wooden sailing ship called the Swift that would look pretty sleek cruising along Suttons Bay.
+scott firman Damn.. a permanent course.. What luxery! :D A really Scale looking sailing yacht would be great! It would proable perform a bit less, but who cares :) Bigger rc sailing boats are a Bit more exiting, cause they are faster.. Have you seen this video? ua-cam.com/video/rKpVIyK_Bu0/v-deo.html (from 07:55)
+DutchRC Adventures Suttons Bay has a lot of Retired Doctors,Lawyers and others with lots of money to spend on their toys and the villiage of Suttons Bay is good about providing a place to park their real " Big Boy " Yachts and power craft,so makes sense to give them a place to run their actual RC toys. I watched a guy tuning up a really nice powered scratch built scale power racer he built. I could tell he had invested a small fortune in it. It had twin screws,no slouch for power, nitro all the way! I seriously need to make a short trip up there to watch the fun,I could bring my metal detector along to go over the park there, its been a few years since I have done it. I shall put it on my list for things to do this summer, mabe bring an electric water craft of my own. nothing fancy ( you think?)
+scott firman Fun at the water-side (or on the water) is good man! I actually started windsurfing in my teens because it helped me get rid of heyfever :) Very nice sport.. I ran competitions all over the world (including Hawaï :)) And yep.. you can sink quite a lot of $$ into most any hobby..
I have some experience with rc sailboats and I'm sure the HK boat is a fine budget boat. But the jib sale on the Kyosho looked like it was pulled kinda tight, it seemed flat most of the time which would cut half the wind off the speed of the boat imho. Great vid tho! Not many sailboat vids out there heh.
Thanks you! :) yeah.. that Kyosho is hard to rig up somehow.. it's as if the sails aren't balanced and the yacht only did ok with the jib quite tight indeed.. without that it could be ok but over where I live it's always gusty and that combo didn't work well for the boat.. it's bigger brother (Seawind) is a lot better :)
hey, I have a problem with my Orion 22, 2 green LEDs are flashing on the remote control and the model doesn't respond, it doesn't move, do you know what to do?
I don't have this setup anymore but it seems like the bind between the radio & receiver is lost.. You need to find out how to bind the them together...
I just ordered a V2 Orion. Had a couple of 1m's years ago,, & always wanted a smaller one with good performance,, that you could just throw in the car, & not have to put together & take apart each outing. These little Guys from what I have seen, are hands down the ''best bang for the buck'' out there. It looks like the HK Orion in this vid. performs better than the 612, that costs around 2 times as much now, as the V2 Orion.. Would of been 4+ times more a few years back,, with the killer V1 deal HK had on them. ''Wish I was in the market then'' ... ''Oh well'' …. I guess it shares some of the same parts as the now - renowned - DF65,, & was designed by the same Guy. No wonder it sails as well as it does. Incredible actually,, for as small as it is.. Can't wait to try mine out. We have some nice ponds in the area where I live now, just have to wait till spring,, due to the fact that it's late Jan.,, & I live in the Midwest USA. I
Sounds great and I agree.. that v2 Orion will run great for sure. The Kyosho does Look great and it's fun to sail but it's far from a competition setup :) Let me know how your V2 works out!
Thanks for the reply ! I will definitely let you know in around a couple of months,, once winter subsides...……….........….. P/S,, , How are they fairing up against the little Graupner's ? .. Am guessing the Orion ''set up correctly'' probably would hold it's own pretty well, & also looks to be around 1/2 the price,, all said & done.
hated the loud bash at the first of the film, almost just blew it off and looked else where, as I have terrible ringing ear and loud noise really increases the ringing--
Hmm, You know you could make something like a catamaran and sail all from Depron. It's closed cell foam, so it's waterproof. Carbon tube for the mast and maybe plastic for fins/rudders.
Ohw for sure! Building something yourself can Allso be fun :) I've build an airboat out of depron, so yeps.. Depron indeed works just fine for boats :)
+Discover RC Haha :D something completely different this huh? :) a bit hard to capture on video, these small boats, as well ;) Cheers & have a good week!
Hey i don't know if you noticed but the HK boat is BLUE! it actually looks quite nice and it works well too. Not bad price too. That was nice you got a sample. Some day I'd consider getting a sailboat. Looks like a nice change from all the speedboats. Thanks for sharing buddy! cheers
+Mike's RC Corner Yeah sample.. it was more a gift really.. I wasn't asked to do a video or anything :$ What.. Blue? :O no no.. it's definately red! :P Yeah.. it's completely different offcourse from speedboats (duh :P) There is no rush.. it's relaxing like fishing :) Cheers & thanks for stopping by! :)
+Teletubbie Probeer je maar es voor te stellen hoeveel Meer tijd het maken van de video's dan kost :) minstens 3x zo veel als nu.. Dus ja.. dat kan.. wil ik dat? nou nee..
+shenlonco Ghehe :) Yeah.. most of my boats are build for speed indeed, though I allso have 1 more scale looking boat (that one Is fast regardsless though :P)
The little hobbyking performs better than I thought it would with the size of its sails.
+Rookie101 Same here brother :D For what it costs, and the way it looks.. Seems like a smart design :)

@@DutchRC they were paired. The problem is in the remote control when I connected another boat and it works
@@Frapop okee.. in that case eighter the receiver in the yacht doesn't receive power, or it's broken.

@@highatruthart I think the Orion is on par or slightly more forgiving in windgusts :) both nice ships in this class though I think :)

sorry about that! It's not Very loud by the way (I have headphones on).. but yeah.. I don't use that intro anymore...

To Keep the kyosho sailing in a straight line tilt the mast sligthly back. If it wants to turn with the wind you've gone too far.
Thank you very much for your input sir! I'll try that :)
That is definitely good to know !
I looking for orion for my kid, good model?
Howdy :)
well Yes.. nothing really wrong with it.. I wouldn't use it in races, but it sails quite nicely especially for what it costs :)
Verkoop je m ook niet net als de affinity, zie het nu pas ;)
Die Orion had ik ten tijde van die video al aan de toenmalige schipper gegeven ;)
DutchRC Adventures heel jammer.
Toch bedankt!

+DutchRC Adventures looked good to me! I really want to build a boat-maybe a tug. Just need uh a lot time lol. :)
+Discover RC Hahaha yes sir.. that will indeed cost 'a bit' of time :)
I was just thinking. If you cut off the keels and stick the two boats together there, they would look like a plane.

dude what you think a sail is
@@ewandewar3667 A sail is a vertical floppy wing.
