There are several reasons Gus only gave Walt one hour, since he was reluctant to work with Walt he may have had someone watching Jessie & known he was passed out. It could have been a test to see if Walt can deliver with his junkie partner incapacitated. Also 1st drug meet with strangers can be done in short timeframe to prevent being set up. It's easier to see if someone is legit by forcing them to react quickly. Gus would have had someone tail Walt to make sure he wasn't doing anything shady. It's the element of surprise to show dominance.
I love how both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul have an episode where 2 main characters are stranded in the desert with barely enough resources to survive
There's actually a scene in breaking bad that could be a retroactive reference. In season 5, there's a scene where walt, saul and jesse meet in the desert. Walt decides to just talk to jesse and so tells saul to "take a walk." Instead saul just sits by the car.

Walt telling Gus that he has 38 pounds "ready to go at a moment's notice" might have prompted Gus to test if he can professionally stick true to his word which is why Victor gave him only one hour to prepare the deal (and that might have been a generous hour too)
Big theme for Walt is suicidality and lack of control. He craves control and thought he would gain it by making money and dying. But, unfortunately for him, he has to continue living and suffering and can't be the hero he wants to be. The scene with Junior is him trying to grab back some of that control that has been taken from him.
1:44:50 I think he is more satisfied over the fact that he put Hank in his place for once, after Hank emasculated him time after time in the show at this point. I think in this scene he didn't really give a crap or even is aware he hurt Jr. He's just smiling he finally stood up for himself to Hank. That's my take at least.
Yes, I agree! Also would add that Hank and "Flynn" were having a chummy moment and Walt wanted to break that up, which he did in spades. He hates how Jr. admires Hank for being a bad ass DEA agent, so he goes extra bad ass, pouring the booze and butting heads with Hank, who never knows his place. I really hate the way Hank treated Walt at his birthday party in the pilot episode, and yes, it was certainly about time that Walt put him in his place, it just came out in a weird way to his mood and alcohol abuse. He's definitely smiling with satisfaction at Hank being thwarted, he's not thinking about Jr. at all, or perhaps a rub for changing his name to Flynn.
I love your super long videos. not only do they keep me entertained throughout my work day, the detail of your analysis helps me appreciate these shows more.
There were a lot of happy accidents early on in the show's development that ended up guiding it in a much better direction. From the writer's strike cutting Season 1 short, rerouting the show from a rushed run, to Tuco having to be cut as the main antagonist for Season 2, opening a window for new fantastic characters like Gus, Saul, and Mike, and further more nuanced exploration of the characters currently present, to Bob Odenkirk's issues in scheduling being directly responsible for the existence of Mike Ehrmantraut, I think we can safely say the show would've likely been much WORSE off if things had gone so cleanly for the BB team. This should stand as a lesson to all aspiring creatives to really go with the flow. See opportunity in adversity. Embrace any perceived inconveniences as much as possible, and you will be rewarded beyond your imagination. What's today's trash is tomorrow's treasure. Keep up the good work, everybody.
The scene where skylar confronts walt at the end of the season is one of my favorites of the show. I was glued to my screen and the way Ana delivers the line “and then I called your mother” is just *chefs kiss*
3:14:00 I interpreted this scene as Gus knowing this information being why he was at the DEA in the first place. Getting to know the people closest to Walt so he can understand him and his motivations, as well as his weakpoints.
Yeah, I didn’t even think about it until Kiwi pointed out that they made it seem like Gus really didn’t know when he should have. But it also makes sense that Gus did know that info but was putting himself in place to learn more
@@KDBetter Additionally, of course Gus (and by extension, the writers) is gonna make it seem like he's just learning this now. How fucking weird would it be if the owner of the local chicken joint strolls into your office one day and knows all about your brother in law and his terminal lung cancer?? Plus, we know from the BCS missing scene with Mike and Saul during episode 208 that Mike knew all about Walter's cancer, and we know from his relationship with Gus at the end of BCS that there is a near 0% chance he wouldn't have relayed that to Gus
Gus saying “You cant trust an addict” might have something to do with Walt being the true addict by just being addicted to his own pride or whatever you would call it, all of these things he does. Walt being addicted to being the best. In the end Gus should have trusted Jesse and not Walt.
He tried to. Gus had Mike trying to separate Jesse and Walt, with the intention of keeping Jesse as the head cook and getting rid of Walt. Jesse was too loyal and too heavily manipulated by Walt in the end.
I believe I they actually killed off Tortuga because the actor always wants the character to be killed. As I recall he says it’s because he always plays cartel characters and doesn’t like them being shown as successful long-living people
Your channel does not get enough attention for how much work you put into your videos, with the length, good editing and a good concept for a video you deserve much more.
My thoughts about the "Junior throwing up from drinking" scene. Is just about control. Hank is the big dick of the room which makes Walt feel inferior in his own home. He's even being "commanded" by Hank to keep filling his shot glass up. So Walt takes control of the situation, making his son drink. Hank tries to stop it, but Walt forces his way through by pouring alcohol between his fingers. Then gets angry when Hank takes the bottle away, commanding him with force to "BRING...THE BOTTLE...BACK". Then it all comes to a close with Junior throwing up which basically ends the scene. He's probably satisfied a little bit, between been drunk and getting his bottle back as Hank puts it on the table. Meaning Walt technically wins.
Can’t believe how many times I’ve watch this show, and even wrote a 300+ quiz for an app on it. And I didn’t even realise he saw the results of his test in the reflection after Marie was talking about how easy it is to notice the cancer.
There are 2 reasons why i think that he pushed Junior to drink so much. the obvious first reason is Walt is upset about the cancer. The other reason is because Walt is trying to assert his dominance as the man of the house. In the first 2 seasons it’s clear that Walt is jealous that Junior thinks Hank is “cooler” than him. We see this in pilot where Hank is the center of attention at Walt’s birthday party. at the beginning of the drinking scene Hank is talking about turtle bomb Junior is clearly very interested and Walt is clearly jealous. He even tells Hank that “that’s my son, my bottle, my house!”
The thing about Gustavo not knowing about Walt is interesting, even more taking BCS into account. There's that scene in the final season, after the empty graveyard scene, where Mike tells Saul all about Walter and his condition. It stands to reason to believe that everything Mike said then, he would've told Gustavo once Saul got him to introduce Walt and Jesse to him. But it's interesting that Mike didn't mention Walt's brother in law being a DEA agent, which he surely would've mentioned to Saul as another reason for him to be a liability, let alone to Gustavo. Hard to believe that medical records are easier to get ahold of than the extended family tree.
A scene in early season 3 has Mike sharing those details about Walt's physical and mental health and Mike has a great funny line in there too, it's first time we see them together in fact, parked alone at a nondescript location . Mike : "If you want to hire this guy, why don't you just tell him? You're the only thing that sticks between him and an axe to the head" referring to the twins.
I'd put 213 in SS too. The introduction to Mike, all of consequences of Jane's death, different results of laundering Walt's money, and finally, Skyler leaving Walt and the plane crash.
3:14:48 this scene was a character building scene because it is one of the first Gus scenes (release order-wise). It's showing that Gus was a sponsor/friend of the D.E.A. and how he hides in plain sight.

the hank and marie wedding thing wasnt a deleted scene, it was part of a web series made to promote the show that shows little non-important stories that take place in between the main story. incredible video btw. lots of work put into this.

I was very excited for this one! I started watching Breaking Bad some weeks ago and I'm obsessed with this show. Really enjoying these retrospective videos, keep up the great work The Badger scene was very funny for me bc I had seen it being referenced in a manga before and I didn't know it was actually a Breaking Bad reference at the time

Always excited to see another one! I know it's a pain to edit and probably even more so to export it, but as long as these are coming you have my attention fully
I think a possible explanation of gus' distrust of junkies is Tuco. Tuco is a junkie, and as a salamanca and specifically the salamanca North of the border after lalo died and before the events of season 2 of bcs, it's highly likely gus had dealings with tuco. It's even possible that gus didn't even have a specifically negative interaction with tuco, he just hates him because he's a salamanca so basically tuco =salamanca, salamanca = bad tuco = junkie therefore junkie = bad
I find it more likely that Gus hears the cartel members (Bolsa and others) complain about Tuco, so he sees Tuco as the weak link of the Salamancas because he is a junkie. So to him, junkie = weak link.
I don't get your constant revisiting of the topic of "who is to blame?". I mean, if you follow what chain of events caused whatever event you're talking about, inevitably every action leads back to the beginning of time itself. Where you choose to put the blame is arbitrary, because both everyone and no one is responsible.
The writing and performance for "Days Out" were so brilliant that, even though I knew there were still 3 seasons to go, I was still biting my nails, wondering if Jesse and Walt would get out of there alive. Props to the creators, y'all did god's work with this show.
I always just thought Gus put the time limit on Walter to prove he could be reliable even with Jessie as a partner. Gus has always been a stickler for everything going according to his plans.
I don't think Walt was intentionally trying to hurt junior by letting him drink.....it was more about Walt feeling in charge. And Hank trying to stop him only made it worse. "If my kid wants to have drinks with his dad, then I will be the one to say whether it's ok or not". Walt just dealt with his inner turmoil by feeling like the man on the throne. And not that it has anything to do with that scene in particular, because it's definitely not what Walt was trying to do....there's something to be said about the old style lesson of letting your kid do something until it makes them sick , making them never wanna do it again. That kinda dumb in my book, but depending on where you grow up, your surroundings, and where you get your genes....it can work. But it was also more useful back in the old days when it wasn't so easy for kids to get whatever they wanted behind their parents backs 😅
I watch my Breaking Bad DVDs like a toddler. Only series I could ever watch 3 to 4 times a year for 10 years (I watched it for the first time during the marathon on AMC before the finale, then rented the DVDs afterwards because I'd missed some episodes). And yet, I still can't wait for your breakdowns and summaries. LOVE IT!!!!
My friend is on 4 days out and he says he says Jesse is so stupid but he likes his character development a lot and his morals and his comedic effect he also likes Saul
For season 2 episode 12, at 2:54:29 , I actually don't think it's that crazy they meet at the same bar. Jane's father could happen to live near her, and decide to go to the bar later in the night after work, while Walter, having just been at Jane's house, goes for a drink out of frustration. However, the parallels between their daughters and the timing is just the brilliant cosmic writing of the BB universe. (Also, good shit kiwi! amazing channel! hope you keep covering great shows.)
I only just discovered your channel recently and have been waiting on this forever. When are you gonna be able to get to Season 3? Gus is the best character.
His videos are so good because he takes a lot of time to produce them. I'd plan on re-watching some of his other videos in the meantime. I'd assume (based on previous upload times) you can plan on a new long-form video every month or so. I think his videos are well worth the wait.
I agree that it is kind of insane to spend 5 hours on not even one of the famous seasons of Breaking Bad, but it's just the kind of insane I like. These are great, in-depth retrospectives especially for someone who's already watched the show before. I love the analysis of logic in the show, pointing out areas where everything weaves together so brilliantly, pointing out some places where that's less true, it really helps us appreciate the details embedded in this franchise.
Regarding the junkie in 2x10 you have to remember that hard drugs take a hell of a toll on your body. That’s probably why he looks the way he does. I mean take a look at Spooge and his woman. They’re probably only in their late 30s - early 40s but look a hell of a lot older due to their habits. Just go look up before and after photos of junkies. Even Aaron Paul was not sold on Jesse having perfect teeth and skin in the show despite his addiction
I actually see Walt's description of why he keeps Jesse around to be a lie to Gus cuz in reality Walt knows he doesn't need Jesse, Practically since he got Saul he hasn't truly needed Jesse but he WANTS him around. I think he's also unaware of why he wants him around so he again lies to Gus with a half truth
great video, man! 3 hours is crazy! but I think the choice of the bcs outro music in the background could be changed because it gets a bit repetitive after a while
I always thought the title "Negro y Azul" was a bait title referring to how Walt was gonna end up black and blue. Even the end of the song "Negro y Azul" says that when the cartel catch up with him, he won't know what hit him.
Thanks so much Kiwi for all hard work you have put into these videos. I have have been watching Odenkirk in AMC’s Lucky Hank. He is okay but the series is underwhelming 🙏☮️

Been waiting for this episode for so long can’t wait for the rest of the show. Keep up the great work.
the hank and marie wedding thing wasnt a deleted scene, it was part of a web series made to promote the show that shows little non-important stories that take place in between the main story. incredible video btw. lots of work put into this.
I haven’t even started it but I know this is going to be a banger. Thanks for taking the time to make these. They are amazing
great feeling seeing these videos show up in my recommended
Heyyyyy Kiwiiii!!! As always - super proud to be part of this community. Thank you!
Hey man idk if you still read comments, but I went to sleep as soon as your video started and heard THE ENTIRE VIDEO from start to finish in my dreams, as soon as I heard your outro it automatically woke me up so that I could put on another
3 and a half hours... for a second part of a season retrospect. Yeah this dude's season 3,4, and 5 videos are gonna be so fire lol
THANK YOU BRO . These are clutch at work . Even from just a listening standpoint . Keep rocking
I was very excited for this one! I started watching Breaking Bad some weeks ago and I'm obsessed with this show. Really enjoying these retrospective videos, keep up the great work
The Badger scene was very funny for me bc I had seen it being referenced in a manga before and I didn't know it was actually a Breaking Bad reference at the time
23:22 I just finished BB recently, and this was, at the time, my favorite cold open and wasn't beaten until the next season, but it still remains my second favorite
3 and a half hours in a part 2 to season 2.. deserves a subscription in its own
Whenever Thevividkiwi update a video of Breaking Bad tier list/retrospective and/or characters retrospective/study it like my birthday came a bit early.
For the tangent at 1:13:24 when you sell drugs, you would wholesale the pounds to be about 10-20% reduction from the smaller quantities so they would be selling the pounds for 35k each about. Anyway; great vid
I always wondered why....Hank, being obsessed with Heisenberg......why he didn't start going after badger . Or even Saul
Lets goooo 3+ hours! I appreciate the hard work you put into this tier list videos!
3 and a half hours for a part 2 of the season!! Sweet! So many fond memories of this show as this was when I was freshly hooked and it was such an amazing feeling getting sucked into this world. It's always fun getting the episodes but then your breakdown is getting to enjoy them again but not get sick of them and you point out new things to appreciate in.
This is the exact moment where Holly became Saul Goodman
Always excited to see another one! I know it's a pain to edit and probably even more so to export it, but as long as these are coming you have my attention fully
incredible video, absolutely can not wait for season 3 restrospective
Oh boy, I've been waiting for this video for too long, keep up the good work Kiwi :)
man i seriously love your content keep it up!
Oh man seeing this made my day! And over 3 and a half hours. You absolute legend!
Gosh you deserve so many more subscribers for the amount of work you put into these videos. Amazing!
Kiwi you legend I waited so long for this one and already excited for the next parts! Thanks for those amazing videos👌
I've waited a whole month to watch this. Absolutely worth it
kiwi's "street guy" bit is like beat rices "pizza" bit but even worse
3:14:00 I agree. I think Gus knew from Mike but just wanted to comment to see if he could find out anything new from a close family member
I don't get your constant revisiting of the topic of "who is to blame?". I mean, if you follow what chain of events caused whatever event you're talking about, inevitably every action leads back to the beginning of time itself. Where you choose to put the blame is arbitrary, because both everyone and no one is responsible.
Another great video, I will watch again and again! Hope you been well.
Finally finished . We appreciate every detail you include bro . Hopefully we don’t wait to long for season 3 retro
The writing and performance for "Days Out" were so brilliant that, even though I knew there were still 3 seasons to go, I was still biting my nails, wondering if Jesse and Walt would get out of there alive. Props to the creators, y'all did god's work with this show.
Damn Felina is going to be its own 10 hours video lmao
(btw not hating, i like watching long video essays so)
LETS GOOOO IVE BEEN WAITING FOR LIKE A MONTH!!! IM SO HYPED
I love these videos, thank you for making them.
LOVE IT!!!!
Thank you for making these! It helps me concentrate during work - which can get really reptitive. Your videos help me get through the day
And when the world needed him the most, he vanished...
Love these video listening to them at work thanks for the content man also best of luck with the later seasons
My friend is on 4 days out and he says he says Jesse is so stupid but he likes his character development a lot and his morals and his comedic effect he also likes Saul
Well, there goes my Saturday afternoon
For season 2 episode 12, at 2:54:29 , I actually don't think it's that crazy they meet at the same bar. Jane's father could happen to live near her, and decide to go to the bar later in the night after work, while Walter, having just been at Jane's house, goes for a drink out of frustration. However, the parallels between their daughters and the timing is just the brilliant cosmic writing of the BB universe. (Also, good shit kiwi! amazing channel! hope you keep covering great shows.)
You should have put up a 'Put a pin in it for now' counter here as well 😂👍
Appreciate you man all the time an effort you put into these breaking bad bangers 💪🔥
Been waiting for this video, cant belive its 3.5 hours. Crazy work Kiwi!!
Sussy Gussy
I really hope one day Vince drops that scene where we get to hear what that letter said to brock
208's cold open is one of my favorites. Perfectly goofy and serious in a way Breaking Bad does excellently.
Plus he had to deal with the reds and blues. That'll make anyone look rough!
Great video.. Cant wait until August for the Season 3!!
My fave UA-cam series rn
Absolutely love these videos, thank you so much for making them 😊
been waiting for this FOREVER!!! love these breakdowns so much
i love these videos! are you going to cover the whole series? bc i cant wait to see you cover season 4 and 5 for 10 hours each xd
great video, man!
