Instead, they sacrificed their personal stats to make their teammates better to WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS. Gretzky could have scored even more goals, but gave up the puck to have more than 250% more assists than goals; Mike Bossy (the best goal scorer in history in a shortened career) had almost as many assists as goals; Howe, same thing. All Ovechkin does is shoot first, which is why he only has one Stanley Cup. Gretzky had four; Orr had two (and could have had more if not for the selfish owners breaking the team up and his knees), and Bird won three championships in a tougher Eastern Conference (Celtics, Pistons, 76s, Bucks) than the Western Conference (LA, Rockets). Sure, a great goal scorer, not a great player.
