Fun fact --- the original script for Glitter was supposed to be a dark, gritty, oscar bait-y type film but got rewritten to be more light and "marketable". The screenwriter also wrote "What's Love Got To Do With It".
I think it was also supposed to be marketed as A Star is Born remake.

Now that’s not fair, Honey at least doesn’t end up forgiving the douchbag video director like Billie did Dice, therefore giving the film a terrible message on how to handle abusive partners/co-workers. Both are very bad though.

Things I will share about this movie that will never watch that tell my age: It debuted the day after 9/11, her mom is also one of the moms from Half & Half (with the banger theme song), Dice looks like Great Value Ewan McGregor (freebie), Glitter was supposed to be semi-autobiographical so Mariah couldn't act in a movie semi-based on her own life, Eric Benet cheated on Halle Berry and the community didn't forgive him for years, also Eric Benet is Great Value Lenny Kravitz.
It was the soundtrack that debuted on 9/11, the movie came out a week after!

Glitter is kind of based on Mariah's life. There's too much close to home, there.
She had a lot of time to take more acting lessons and develop her skills.
She was also very moved by Mo’Nique’s performance, so that probably affected her too. I believe it wasn’t in the script that she would start to cry during the monologue, that was all her.

I was ADAMANT that Dice reminded me of some actor. I finally got it. He is the blend of Norman Reedus with Ewan McGregor. Literally the top half of his face is norman in boondock saints and the bottom half is ewan mcgregor in moulin rouge.

Whatever the script was, Mariah can’t act. She and Da Brat were actually real life friends (at the time, have no clue about now) and she also can’t act to save her life. I’ve heard all kinds of excuses for studio interference and such. But truth is some singers can’t act. I have less ‘grrrr’ towards this movie after seeing truly bad movies. But at the time, as a fan, I was so hating on it for being so very terrible. I actually wanted my ticket money back. 😂😂
