#23 DIY Flashing BR/Modern Era Red Tail Lamps (EOT)

- I've always thought that flashing End of Train (EOT) tail lamps are a great detail to add to a train to give it some added realism as it trundles around the track.
Whilst there are a few manufacturers who sell small tower LEDs painted white for a fair enough price, I just don't think they're all that convincing.
DCC Concepts sell modern image tail lamps which are a better representation of the real thing (although perhaps a wee bit oversized for the 80s/90s era), but they're expensive for what they are, at approx. £8.50 each. They come with some extra accessories, but I still don't think they're worth it.
I came across Springside Models' modern image lamps a while back and thought they looked great. Well proportioned and detailed, and calling out for customisation with a tiny surface mount LED.
In this video, I walk through each step, from drilling out the lens aperture to installing the LEDs. Following some quick abacus work, I reckon you could make each flashing lamp for about £1.80 at 2018 prices...quite a saving!
