Hi my friend! I live vicariously through you for now until my shop is built and kitted out! I really appreciate your vision regarding your various builds. This build is no exception. Thank you for taking us along!
I love your videos Austin. I like watching you do all those things you do i.e. the powder coating. I have a 2001 SR5 with flared fenders. The body is gloss black and I'm going to plastic coat the fender flares flat black. I think the contrast will be cool. I also did the headlight retrofit but with LED's instead of HID. I installed those black rear tail lights and they look so good against the gloss black paint. I need to clay bar it though. The paint is terrible. I replaced most of the suspension, new bumpers (they were rusted out from the inside). I'm going to be 76 in August and I just love working on it. It only has 147,000 miles on it so it's going to last longer than me (maybe lol). Thank you and keep pluggin away...............Bill in Wilmington, NC.
18:55 well your upper joint's threaded section was spinning in the bung, and tightening the nut really wont stop it from doing so. I would say no you don't have enough articulation. if you are dead set on bushings, get dual durometer bushings from synergy, they can actually flex and also require no grease.
All great content. Anyone that complains about audio is just being shitty. Audio is fine, camera is great, content is exceptional. Just keep doing what you are doing. Thank You for the hard work and dedication it takes to spit out content.
Holy smokes buddy, this is a peace of art! Austin, trought the time I've been following the work of guys like Chip Foose, but sincerelly your detail level working alone is unbeatable. Could you be able to buy, customize and sell a pickup truck for a interested person on this kind of job?
Loving the build so far can't wait to see it with the bed and cab. Too bad they don't make old school 80's Fulda tires like the mini truckers used back in the day
I have been watching the start of this build and was going to comment about adding heim to bottom and top of third link. I have a three link on a lowered Sierra and it has the heirms and articulates and keeps wheels planted on the ground. Thanks for showing the difference. Interesting how the bushings flex. Either way I think it will work.
Looking killer dude and cannot wait to see it done. This world needs more mini trucks and glad to see another one back on the road! The cherry is bang on ties the bronze and black together really nicely. A lighter red would have distracted or clashed with the bronze. I won't get into colour theory too deep but if your curious... The hue (colour) compliments the bronze and the shade (darker colour) pulls from the black frame & wheels. This creates a nice harmony, in my opinion, and creates a pop of visual interest. (You may have to look twice to actually tell it's not black.). Going with a tint (lighter colour) would compliment & highlight the little bit of chrome and why I think it would be distracting.
great video, good quality very informative. I wouldn't worry too much about the audio quality we can still hear you. But then again as meticulous as you are with the rebuild, I'm sure you'll fix it.
Looks great 👍... As for bushings v hiem joints. Correct... 4WD. / Racecar definitely the hiem joint period. Being a street truck 2WD the bushings will work just fine. One advantage of the bushings is noise... softer .... little more forgiveness. Hiem joints are solid... can be a little noisy during movement.. firm / solid and a little less forgiveness. However both will work on this application just fine. Install grease fittings every where you can. Next is good bushings for the body. Same thing.. soft rubber is forgiving and not as stiff and solid.. less noisy. This is a fun project. Enjoy watching it come together 😎👍
Might want to consider mounting your front shocks on top of the plate you welded in instead of under. All of the front end weight is now going to be held up by just those bolts instead of distributing it across the base of the lca.
New camera vs old camera: New is smoothed, old is a little shaky. (Software exists to fix this in post, but that's also an extra step.) New looks like a cheap small lens with a small sensor, old looks super pro image sharpness and quality. New is probably super convenient, old is big and clunky. New - you're looking at the screen a lot instead of the lens and it's a bit distracting, old you obviously don't. Maybe use your new one for the selfie shots (but don't look at the screen) and the old one for tripod stuff, as it has way better image quality. Honestly, we'll watch either way. Love your videos.
Hey Devin, the powder most likely turned out darker than you wanted because you are spraying it on when the part is too hot. When you do this you cant control the amount of layers of powder compared to just using the electromagnetism of the gun. Thats why the powdercoating shops dont use "hot flocking"
Your absolutely right, I’ve made some real messes hot flocking but….. we don’t know how much he lets his parts cool after he off gasses, he could use some silicone bungs though. Looks great!
For a guy who said he wasn't going all out on this project your off to the races. What are you going to use as a power plant, that constitutes the need for a three point rear suspension?
I think, if you were to use heims on the adjustment end of your links. I believe it would be quieter than having bushing. From previous experience, poly bushings if not greased well, will squeak like hell
I was hoping you were going to use the original wheels that were on it for that 80s vibe. Honestly, I would only consider heims on the links attached to the axle the rest being bushings would be fine. I only say that for wear purpose but it's probably not going to be driven daily like most of us would. It'll probably be fine the way it is. Love this build so far.
Looking good. LOL, NASCAR Toyota with those wheels and tires. Ya, the audio sounded like you were in a empty room when you took us outside to see the spring color.
Bro people complain for anything nowadays, honestly I’ve never had any problems with the audio of your videos, maybe it is because I get so focused on your projects. Anyway bro everything is looking really good, congratulations and cheers 🍻 from Miami!
Hahaha camera doesn't matter. We enjoy your work 💯. ( By the way before you said you bought a new camera, I thought today Austin has done some makeup ) 🤣
Hey Austin. I am really enjoying your videos and have no problem with sound or the camera. I’ve restored a few old Japanese bikes and many engines but have only tried my hand at a car once …it’s a 1999 hilux crew cab. I have finished it but it doesn’t look anything like as good as your work, but watching your videos makes me want to strip it all down and start again 😂
This is really shaping up to be a nice truck. It's my favorite so far. I think you're going to have ditch the patina and paint it up nice though; everything else is just too nice.
Try putting adding heims on the trailing ends of the two lower arms and then test again. you will see a bigger difference. Most high end suspension builders Ride tech/Global West will use this combination or heims on both ends. Such a light truck anyways it won't hardly move around. If you were on bags I'd do heims for less binding movement.
Watched alot of your videos.love em you got skills.the builds and quality are better then most so called pro build shows and builders.i have a question. On my mazda b2200 the chrome plastic grill is no longer made .so i bought a black plastic one only ones remade new.how can i get the plastic chrome again??? Whats the process they used when making them?thank you for your time
Have you thought about maybe doing a driveshaft flange mounted disk e brake? Lots of people do em on the 4x4s, I know you mentioned needing an e brake in a past video
Heims will allow for more flex but they will get noisy. Poly bushings will squeak too but you have grease fitting so they should be quiet. Personally. On a street truck, I would stay with all of the poly bushings. I would not do heims. I’m minimizing the number of heims on my offroad rig (doing builder/flex joints).
theres a chrome shop down on trent just down the road from hazzard fabworx that i think can strip those coils. i was going to take my bumper for my truck to them so i can color match it.
That Hilux is going to be sick. Wish I could fast forward all your work so I could see it finished. In the bed need to be mint and outside old and original.
that frame looks badass i hope those tire and wheels fit good they look great
Thanks! Tires are for sure too tall but we will see!
Hi my friend! I live vicariously through you for now until my shop is built and kitted out! I really appreciate your vision regarding your various builds. This build is no exception. Thank you for taking us along!
I don't think I have ever seen how each piece on any other show is done with your perfection.
That color is really cool actually. I think it goes well with that dark bronze.

I know it was a little darker than you wanted but I love that color red on the springs. Looks great with that bronze color!
Yea they do go great together! Thanks!!

Now is correct.
This is good. No parts left untouched, can't wait to see more videos

The chassis and suspension are looking awesome. Great colour choices .

the best looking suspension i have seen

Thanks man! Yea all said and done I like the darker red!!
Out of curiosity what spring rate did you choose for the front and rear thinking of the stabfab upgrade for my 87 pickup
He said 600 lb front 200 lb rear I believe
great video, good quality very informative. I wouldn't worry too much about the audio quality we can still hear you. But then again as meticulous as you are with the rebuild, I'm sure you'll fix it.

I agree!! The bushings should do just fine!
A well protected frame makes me so happy. I f'in hate rust.
Those springs look amazing! MUCH better than chrome!! Good call.
A suggestion for the wheels . Why dont you widen the classic steel wheels, maybe in black it would look amazing in my opinion.
Might want to consider mounting your front shocks on top of the plate you welded in instead of under. All of the front end weight is now going to be held up by just those bolts instead of distributing it across the base of the lca.

It looks super clean! Love the colors too. The new camera is much better too, it’s more focus and sharper looking.
Again simply beautiful work your fab skills and on point .
The poly bushes would wear really fast like that, they are not designed to be loaded like that Austin . Awesome build loving it 👍

Yes the first spring was a bit warm with the clear but the rest I let cool off and they did look a touch brighter!
Whose Devin?
I really like the colors on all the powder coated parts
Love this build dude!! Im working on mine as well and I love that you posted this . Keeps me.inspired
I like the new color combo too. 👍

Put a k20 in it
No grease in those bearings?
Much gets done off camera in my modest opinion...let see what he says...👍👍👍
When I am done with brakes and such I’ll pack them for the final install!
@@austinniemela Yeah, rotors aren't on yet. Disregard my comment.
That cherry looks dope!
Looks amazing mate. Nice build
Thanks 👍
Really enjoying this series! Can't wait to see the body on this thing.
The red def sets it off when it's all mounted up. Gonna be 🔥 🔥 🔥
Wheels look amazing
No issues with the sound on the video that I could hear. The springs look good too, look forward to more!
Good to know! Thanks!
Que buenas transformaciones!! Es como seguir una serie !!
Looking great. The dark red springs match well. 👍
Very much enjoying the build series, thanks Austin

I Love This Sir, just wondering is it the final put together or are you going to oil those wheel bearings.

Addicting to watch. Lots of work sand blasting. You should just restore the truck no rust .
you did not grease the bearings when installing? can not understand?
