Made my first flint and steel fire when I was eight years old (1967) and it’s been my go-to method ever since. I carry two steels with my edc.
To keep your ferro rods waterproof paint on some Sally Hansons Hard As Nails on it. Put your fishing hooks on a safety pins so they don’t tangle. Put all of your gear in another contractor trash bag to keep it waterproof. Honer makes the superior harmonica! 😁
if you can, before you spend your money, first look at the 511. i think you will find the capacity to be exaggerated. not just 511 but many if not all manufacturers do this. they have all these internal pockets that are stacked and once you fill one you really can't use the other.
If you're still looking for a good military style pack, check out Splav on ebay. It's a Russian company and they make great gear and have a large variety of backpacks. I own the 53L Cascade 60. It has the best harness system I've ever seen on a military style pack, maybwe better than any hiking packs around as well (I just don't own any hiking packs to compare it to). It lets you put most of the weight on your hips and off your back The shoulder straps are height adjustable. Both the hip belt and shoulder straps are well padded. And it's covered in PALS webbing so you can add all the pouches you want in any configuration you want. the main compartment has a 2/3's way clam shell type opening. It's a bit pricey at around $150 USD, but well worth it and not as pricey as most high end packs, with weak harness systems.
Only problem with the molle2 is the only palce i can get it is from American ebay sellelers and they want $50- $77 just for the shipping and when it gets here al have to pay another £30- £40 for handling fees ontop of that it could take over 2 month to get here and i hate waiting for things lol
I'd likely loose the rope but go for more 550 cord and a 'lot' more bankline. Loved the fact you squeezed in the big wool blanket. That's a lot of weight and bulk, but there's nothing more comforting than being able to wrap yourself in just such a blanket in chill weather when you are done moving, and there will be nights when even the good sleeping bag you've got in there won't be enough. I liked the inclusion of not just a slingshot, but for being able to make multiple repairs to it. You are clearly thinking long term. I note you've got a flashlight but no way to recharge it. I also did not see a headlamp. I'd go for some sort of solar recharger system for a handheld and headlamp. I liked seeing you've got redundant tools for maintaining your tools, again clearly set up for long term. Do you have anything for larger water storage? I assume you will be purifying water by boiling? Do you carry a sheath knife on your belt that you did not show us?
Nice set up mate, very impressive kit. Think you've covered everything. Are you planning an outing with the new bivvy? Do you have a pillow or do you just use your clothes? I agree the 5:11 bag will do nicely, their very popular!

Hi love your videos. Not to be nasty but I always have to giggle to myself when Brits talk about bugging out. You all do know that you live on an island with very limited wilderness?
Its bigger than you think. Someone went missing two weeks ago and his body was found today and he wasn't trying to hide. it would be easy to stay hidden if your not on the radar.
I've only seen this vid of yours and not your edc or saddlebags. So if my recommendations are listed in those then please disregard. Need redundancy in water filtration big time. I didn't see one band aid in there or a first aid kit. Need more duct tape. More socks! Pants, soap and nylon thread to repair your pack. I would have a small mora for small work field dressing and small bushcraft etc. A jacket that repels water your wool clothing will soak and make you colder and miserable. Need a hat of some kind. A small pack of fish bait and some peanut butter for animals to start with. Downgrade your shovel to something smaller. Im not big on the soviet mess kit personally id rather go with the german ww2 style. Need a water bladder. Gloves. Just off the top of my head. Cheers mate. Pray to god you never need it.
It's an INCH bag, (I'm Not Coming Home). ALL water filters will fail when the filters are used up. It is entirely probable that he is going solely for boiling for water purification. He mentioned a first aid kit but did not open it. He had extra socks & pants in the extra clothes bag he did not open. He had loads of thread. He may well have a toque in his extra clothes bag, not to mention what he carries not in the bag, but on his head. He is an extremely experienced fisherman, and likely more than capable of turning over gound for grubs and worms. I agree about a water bladder or something for bulk storage. He had gloves attached to the exterior of his pack.

An addition you should add to your fishing kit is a shark fishing hook and a couple of hose clamps for making a makeshift fishing gaff.

Maybe I missed it but did not see any fishing line. For an INCH bag perhaps a bit light on food gathering. I like the Japanese Nata, and multitool
