Im normally chasing bass with the bow mount Minn Kota but this year I decided to change things up. New trolling rods, reels, tackle, presentations and a ton of research. Had my boat fixed last week and took to the water. Put my dad behind the wheel and deployed longline style, Kokabow flashers paired with a spinner off the starboard rod holder and a dodger/KCP combo from the port side. Flashers went off immediately and I was beyond thrilled that all my attention to detail paid off. Only had two hours before the wind chased us off but the flasher set-up went 3 for 4 and the plug brought another to hand. Thanks for listening and hosting this channel! You're one of the teachers I can credit for my maiden voyages success!!!
For SF Bay Area lakes (i.e. Chabot, Del Valle) I always use flashers when trolling. They seem to hit more with a set of silver flashers and something with a needle fish spoon (silver/red combination). I've tried gold colored flashers and noticed they would never hit (especially at Chabot). I also use a snubber just in case for those whoppers...
I tried the sling blades and flat dodgers up at stampede this weekend but we have never really used them much. We use old style ford fenders. My question is if u let out dodgers on a pole no down rigger how much line do u let out. Do u have to get deeper than ford fenders? We used a hot pink apex which caught most of the fish. Also a dark green apex with yellow spots on it caught a few and an orange wedding ring caught one. Mostly koknees, a few rainbows and lake trout.
Try adding a 1oz. weight in front of the Dodger and see if it gets you deeper. Add more weight to go deeper. Make sure you use a bobber stop to keep the weight off the Dodger.
What if you’re trolling a harbor on the Great Lakes for steelhead looking to run up river? What size blade would you use? It’s a small area but connected to a larger body
I have no idea, I've never fished the Great Lakes....I've watched some Great Lakes trolling on T.V........My gut instinct tells me to go with medium to small blades, but that's just a guess based on the fact that you are in a harbor....
Very interesting you say that. I was fishing French Meadows on Saturday. As soon as I took off my dodgers, I got an easy limit of trout on the surface. Seems like I do better without dodgers in bug forage lakes. Which all makes sense now after watching this video. FYI Caught a brown trout at 25ft, surface temp was ~47F. Kayak trolling is becoming more addicting that bass fishing tournaments! =)
Thank you!....When I get on a roll I get excited and start talking fast....and then make mistakes....I do the same thing when I'm writing sometimes...My fingers work faster than my brain...LOL

Well I think without using leadcore or a downrigger you won't get much below 10 feet or so with a dodger....
Try adding a 1oz. weight in front of the Dodger and see if it gets you deeper. Add more weight to go deeper. Make sure you use a bobber stop to keep the weight off the Dodger.

When you use Dodgers or flashers do you want to match the colors of your offering
I don’t worry about it!
@@FHSTackle Thanks guys always appreciate it

Awesome...Nice Work!!!
At 1:50 you call a Dodger a 'flasher'. Other than that great vid. Been following for awhile from west coast BC.

Cal, I prefer to use the Mack's Lures Mylar Flashers or the dodgers in Idaho reservoirs. For whatever reason they seem to work the best.
They are fantastic....I used them a lot....!
