This book was based off three notes. The first sound you hear is that motif in the Basses. Listen for the three note motif throughout the show-it’s everywhere, by design. Also I never taught VK Schack attack. Nice job fellas!

Love it! Makes it very enjoyable when you can listen and get surprised by the thematic nuance throughout.

This was the show that got me into drum corps. Super cool to hear this perspective from behind the scenes.
Jack Holway also taught at my high school and was one of the main reasons I didn't quit band after getting cut from the drum line my freshman year. So in a roundabout way, Xtraordinary is the reason I ended up winning a Fred with SCV :)

"Learning to drum at the age of four, Johnson joined the snare drum line of the Blue Devils as an 18-year-old in 1976." This would make ScoJo 62! He's the man!

This groove is still stuck in my head 10 years later. Iconic writing and perfect execution

I know this post is a little late LOL, but the kid to Dan's right is Isaac Cinseros. I taught this kid in 2007 when he first marched Velvet Knights at the age of 16. I made him the center snare because he just had more experience in leadership and playing, but he was so timid and young that I could hardly get him to play through the drum. This kid, went on to march SCV 08-09, Pulse Percussion a few years, then Cavaliers until he aged out and the progress he made through his marching career was fucking insane. To this day, one of the best students I ever had the privilege of working with.

I remember watching this show in the high school band room in 2013, I was obsessed with that bass groove after that and still am. Crazy to think I didn't know anything about DCI or WGI, and years later I'm looking back after having been taught by Dan Schack at GMU. Cheers for this video, I dig the react videos!

These videos are unmatched. Seriously, after a few years away from drum core, you guys have peaked my interest. Well done.

This is sweet guys. What a great throwback man, I remember when Dan came onto 7th Regiment's staff during my ageout in open class there in '13. That staff was already phenomenal, and Dan's addition just made it even more stacked on the teaching front. I had switched from snare to join the quadline that year and I learned a LOT from Dan on the visual front, which was definitely my biggest weakpoint. Great times, and great to see his perspective on his ageout season, which definitely was a season that made me want to march DCI at least once, even in open class - and it turned into two seasons on two instruments! Haha.

Also, I love the short excerpts that you guys are posting of the podcasts. It's so nice to hear you guys talk about this stuff and have it available. These videos where you watch and react to lots, rehearsals, or shows is awesome! Additionally, having cuts from the show that indicate the focus of a particular segment is a great idea! The thumbnails add a sincere touch to it and it motivates me to watch each one. Sometimes I don't have the time to select a full segment of the podcast and these cuts are certainly much appreciated. I hope this addition to the channel is helping with the views. This is such a valuable resource for the DCI/WGI percussion community, especially for someone like me who rarely gets to have these kinds of conversation about these subjects. How can I support you guys!?

Glad you’re enjoying! Just wanted to diversify the podcast with the reaction videos and now we just enjoy the hell out of making them lol. In terms of support, just subscribe to the UA-cam channel and share the videos and podcasts with whomever might like them. And on the side of financial support check out our patreon. Link is in the video info. Thanks again for the interest in what we’re doing 👍

I marched with Mike Royer in college for a couple of years and taught with him for i think one year. Best way I can think to describe him is he doesn't understand how people can just not "get it"

I'm a snare guy - can anyone tell me what it is about the tuning of the quads in this line (at the phrase beginning at 11:48 for example) that makes them sound like the way Cavies used to tune the shallow tenors in like 2000-05? I feel like I haven't really heard that sound since then. Pretty great.
