      Better are Intel iGPU can play all games at medium settings at 1080p using only 24 Watts. . . . on a laptop. The GPU card killer isn't other GPUs, it's the integrated graphics that can run most games at medium and average settings.

      People hype the vram issus so much, lol!😂 You better of with scamy Vega 7 with it's 16gb vram, that only usable at 1080p, cause above 1080p in new games it can't really play them for reasonable fps. And have huge bit bus, and still it doesn't help the card to perform good even in 1440p in new games, and not at all because of vram(it use only 12gb vram in 4k max, bad get unplayable at all fps), it's because of horsepower. So even 4060ti with 16gb isn't 4k card at all, and in 4k you need 12gb vram and horse power. 4060ti still good only at 1440p old games, and 1080p in new games, it's 16gb vram doesn't needed for 1080p(Xbox series s is 1440p console, but has only 8gb unified ram, means only 6gb vram).

    Been a PC gamer for decades (40 now!), having GPUs since Voodoo days. Back then, "Ultra" settings were there for future GPUs. Lately though (in the last ~5 years), I've noticed a shift. People seem to expect their GPUs to handle everything on Ultra, no compromises.
    Now, I love PC gaming for the fine-tuning! Tweaking settings, editing .ini files - that's the magic. But some folks seem baffled by even presets, insisting on "Ultra settings!" (often with DLSS Performance silently enabled). It's like logic goes out the window.
    Look, I get it, we spent good money on our mid-range GPU (600-700 EUR in current gen). But you have to be realistic. I have a 6950XT with 3440:1440, and I prioritize smooth gameplay (90 FPS target) by adjusting settings first, then maybe using upscaling. It's all about finding the sweet spot!
    I don't know what can be done. Locking Ultra behind launcher parameters? In a lot of games, you just don't notice Ultra -> High, but you can notice upscaling. Even DLSS2 has issues. Sure, you can replace .dll and select a different DLSS preset. But those people will optimize in game settings first, so they are not in that group that scream "Ultra or Death!" :)

    • @MechAdv
      @MechAdv Місяць тому +2

      I agree with 100%, and very frequently by myself, tuning my graphic settings to avoid needing to use any upscaling beyond quality at 4K resolution. I’ve been extremely satisfied with the performance of my 3080 for almost 4 years now. When I bought my 970, I wasn’t playing every new game maxed out at 1080p, and when I got my 2080 I once again wasn’t just slamming the ultra preset at 1440p. I guess having a gaming laptop with 2009 mobile graphics for 4-5 years will change your perception of what performance is actually needed to play games enjoyably.

    • @fleurdewin7958
      @fleurdewin7958 Місяць тому +4

      That is because these days, powerful consoles from 2 camps are available , and many PC games are available on consoles . If I have the money to blow for powerful GPU, I would want to enable the best graphics quality setting that the game studio has to offer without compromise. If there is too much to compromise, I might as well buy consoles and save a tonne of money. This is unlike the 90's and early 2000's anymore where consoles and PC games titles are not available for each others platform.

    • @MechAdv
      @MechAdv Місяць тому +4

      @@fleurdewin7958 4060 is more powerful than a console dude. The only reason why we perceive the consoles as being so powerful is because of internal upscaling and variable, refresh rate that you aren’t watching a frame counter like you do with PC gaming. There’s a lot of what you don’t know can’t hurt you going on in console gaming performance. If you watch digital foundry at all, then you know that the PlayStation five very frequently drops down to 900P resolution in very demanding AAA titles during hectic scenes.

      Very true, I don’t have 40 years of Gaming but in the beginning I had to tweak my games to run on 16 colors instead of svga (256) and on the pc beeper since there was no soundblaster in my setup.
      Back than it was about getting a game to start and later getting a playable (not nice) frame rate.
      All those kids do not understand that you can kill every hardware with supid settings without any gain in visuals.
      To sum it up in one acronym: FOMO 😂
      Btw I like dlss Quality and enable it with fps limit to save energy and keep my room cool. 😎

      I think it's partially Nvidia and ray tracings fault. Nvidia tried to sell its new tech while also claiming a midrange 2050 or 3050 can do it. And while yes they technically can they are not doing it above 30 fps without high levels of DLSS. Either way ray tracing was definitely one of those ultra settings for people to test and only really be usable in a few more gens when GPUs got better being advertised as something everyone should be using now even on low end hardware. I personally think ray tracing still isn't really there yet even on a 4090 at its higher levels. But now everyone is looking at GPU and game reviews wondering why ray tracing isn't everywhere yet. I still remember back in the day when everyone would comment about how ultra settings were BS and not noticeably different from high. The trick now is there's the magic wand of DLSS 'fixing' everything and people expecting ray tracing in everything now.

    Some people are so used to getting shafted on vram they think that cards like the 3060 somehow had "too much" and end up defending nvidias 4060.
    Keep in mind the 1080Ti has the same performance and ~vram as the 3060 and that was what allowed the 1080Ti to not completely degrade its performance over time.

    • @k995100
      @k995100 Місяць тому

      Thats simply not true, the 4060 ti proves this: the 16gb version doesnt perform any better to justify the extra vram/price. That gpu just isnt strong enough , vram only matters when you run out of it, if you gpu cant handle 4k it doesnt matter if you have 1 gb of vram or 32 gb. That 1080ti gpu IS strong enough to keep up no matter how much vram it has.

      It's weird to think it's wrong about the 1080Ti lasting a long time via having enough vram to play modern games because the 4060ti exists.
      Also the 4060Ti despite being more expensive than it should be is not "too weak" It's pretty much a 3070 with 16GB of vram, very comparable to the 3080M 16GB in laptops.

    Our latest GPU was a RX7900GRE, for my eldest daughter. The card delivers very good value/performance at ~$520 (delivered); particularly with the March-updated driver. Went with Red Team due to the higher VRAM, at 16GB. We were targeting a solid performer at 1440P, coupled to a 144Hz monitor. Use case: VR, FPS gaming, creativity (graphics design), office productivity. Platform: AM4 - B550 - 5800X - 2x16GB DDR4 3600.

    Nvidia prices have been out of control ever since D.L.S.S came out with the 2,000 series. I want to point out that the "A.I machines" that use still have a cost to run their D.L.S.S models through those machines. So Nvidia still has to pay for the total amount of Kilowatts that those so-called "A.I machines" use up. In the end the end product ends with a higher price because of that. I mean look at the prices of the older GTX cards that didn't have that A.I software & other software gimmicks. Even with inflation the cards would still be priced right where Nvidia is pricing their mid-range cards now.

      @@Eleganttf2 No it isn',t they run the code through their A.I machines before they release it into drivers, which tell the GPU how to treat the upscaling of D.L.S.S. If ever single gpu out there ran the A.I independently there would be a HUGE variation on the difference between ever time you ran with D.L.S.S enable. Since ever GPU isn't always perfectly the same quality this isn't possible.

    28:06 I agree for 1440p, but 1080p on a 4K monitor should be completely fine thanks to integer upscaling. That dead-simple upscaling mode makes 1 rendered pixel take exactly 4 physical pixels, which essentially makes the 4K monitor appear exactly like a native 1080p monitor.

    I can't imagine they'll stuff up the pricing of the 80 series card again. They know $1199 didn't sell well, what i think they'll do is price at $999 but it won't be as much of a jump in performance that would we would normally see. So maybe more in line with the 4090 in raster but a good amount better in ray tracing , but we'll still be on a 256 bit bus with 16gb. This to me sounds the most likely and it leaves room for a 5080ti to fill in the gap between the much much more powerful 5090. As for the 5090 price.... I think that it might actually go up in price since the gap will be even larger, maybe $1,799.

    I see the need for even 10GB VRAM for entry level would become necessary due to excessive VRAM usage today even in 1080p/WUXGA at maxed out settings and ray traced settings, in 160-bit bus. What I know of RDNA4 and beyond is: a clean sheet redesign in terms of ray tracing cores in each CU as main focus. I would also expect future iterations of FSR(4) to be mainly AI-driven to accommodate better FG and ray reconstruction, and improvements in 1080p upscaling, using both AI cores on Radeon cards and fallback for older and competition GPUs via DP4a algorithm. This would be possible due to ROCm integration.

    I'm an enthousiast and I've changed my CPU (AM4) about 7 times in 2,5 years time. Went from a fun 3200G, some others, 4650G Pro, 4750G Pro, 5800X, X3D and now a 5950X - I liked them all, OC's were fun - so you'd reckon I would be on my way to AM5. Although I do find the platform is maturing, I feel no incentive as of yet to start. Currently I'm not agreeing with the long memory-training (and having to that again on each CMOS reset) and for me personally, the performance-increase doesn't warrant it yet either.
    The other thing, I like to see more memory stability. I'm running a 4x8GB config that I can OC fine and haven't had crashes due to this yet (kit isn't even "fit" for AMD or so they "say"). Until I see people saying a memory-kit that just works that isn't on the QVL for AM5-boards I'm staying in the meanwhile.

    Im an ARC A770 user, 16gb of VRAM. I play mostly World of Tanks - this game will play on older cards like the 4(!)gb GTX 970 yet when I use the Arc it will often hit 10gb of VRAM @ 160fps on my high refresh rate monitor.
    The ARC is far from high end, but that extra VRAM will likley give it a longer life than lets say an RTX 4060 or RX7600 8gb or even a RTX 4060ti 8gb for that matter. Just my thoughts.
    Relating to the what to do to gain FPS question, my approach is to have dual monitor setup - one is a relatively high refresh rate 1080 27" and the other a relatively high refresh 4k 27". If the A770 can handle 4k at decent refresh rates I use that. if not i use the 1080.
    Both monitors are 165Hz screens.

    For the entry level cards with a 128 bit memory bus abd GDDR6 I would suspect that the XT variant will have 16GB of vram and the cut down variant will either have 8GB or the bus gets cut to 96 bit and they give us 12GB. Depending on performance if AMD want to charge $250+ for the cut version it really ought to have 12GB and a 96 bit bus. I think that is a smaller overall compromise than 8GB on a 128 bit bus.
