★ 4K 🇨🇭Pontresina - Scuol/Tarasp late spring cab ride, Switzerland [05.2020]

- Thanks to Paolo, we have another video from the meter gauge RhB network of Switzerland, this time on a regional train from Pontresina to Scuol-Tarasp. Included with the station names are the altitudes to give you an idea of the rate we're climbing. Maximum allowed speeds will pop up on the lower right, orange indicating a temporary lower speed. Also included are many details to the infrastructure - tunnel names with length, year of construction, bridges and other specialities along the way. On the top right, information about the gradients can be seen. the larger number indicates the promille value (1/10%) and the smaller number the distance of the gradient in meters. The white and black rectangles indicate that the track is level.
The track from Bever to Scuol Tarasp was one of the 2 test tracks for 11kV 16⅔ Hz overhead power in 1913 along with the Lötschberg line (15kV).
Try viewing in 4K whenever possible, as the quality seems poor below that, due to UA-cam's compression. Please note that Safari and various mobile devices don't support 4K. Have been many times in the Engadin and the rest of Graubünden Never getting bored while travelling with the train. Have been on this route at least a dozen times. Last time in 2021. Thank you for this video.

It's not a steering wheel but a controller which manipulates how fast a locomotive is running

Awesome video and what a view. Switzerland is such a beautiful country. Great scenery and open spaces. One thing that impresses me is the cleanliness of the locomotives when you walk from end to end. You couple eat off the floor. I guess because they are electric they don"t get covered in a film of oil like they do here. Thanks for sharing your videos and your country. Great job you have. :-)

Nice video! It brings back memories. I was lucky enough to attend boarding school near Scuol (Avrona). This was in the 70s, when the tunnel between Klosters and Unterengadin didn't exist yet. At the beginning of the school holidays all the kids traveled via Samedan - Albula - Chur to Zürich and onward. All kids traveled together in one reserved railway coach (what a racket), which was attached to the Chur train in Samedan without the need for us to change trains there. Same trip back at the end of the holidays. At the time, as a kid, I didn't feel that this was a big deal but even at this age the Engadin left a deep impression on me. I can open this video at any point and know after 5 seconds the exact location of the train along this route.

Whenever I miss Switzerland, I just watch your videos. Trains hold a special place in my heart for I had so many awesome train rides back then in Switzerland when I was still living there. 😍 I don't have wide angle camera like yours but I do have a simple vlogging camera that helped me capture those memories. 🇨🇭

Very good. Not much snow left on the mountains. Like the slightly wide camera angle. Have you footage of the train that delivers the long rails? Rail seen trackside before and after the Innviaduct. Do not think the rail train would go via the spiral tunnels?
The rails are just as long as 60m or 30m. So no problem even in 45m turns of the Berninarailway .
Certainly got a good braking system!

Instruments watch the same train line in the spring now, and it is clear that the trip is very beautiful 💐🌹🌿🌴💚💛💙😍
The one thing that i love about these types of videos is that, one, this is the 4th of this kind that i haven't watched yet. And two, if your unable to travel to a place, especially on a journey of any sorts, just sit back relax and watch these videos

Keep them coming, they are wonderful journey's. I do have question. There are often signs at the end of platforms with eg : M 50 or M 150. I just can't work out what they mean. Probably something obvious.

So obviously some questions for Paolo.
Is Bever Station being overhauled to make the most of the new double track or is there an underlying issue?
Have you ever driven the special ESM services? That dedicated Marathon platform looks mighty narrow.
And was there a thriving village destination at Carolina before that station closed? On today's maps it looks like little more than a starting point for a hike.

Bever is being overhauled yes.
Yeah I did a few times ESM service and extra stopped in S-chanf Marathon. The platform is fine and normally 300-400 people get to extra trains. Carolina has got just a few house.

Schönes Video, Danke. Da es irgendwie nie gepasst hat, die Strecke selber zu bereisen, bin ich hier in voller Länge mitgefahren, und habe dabei bemerkt, dass ich die neuere Entwicklung in der Gegend nicht gut kenne. Doppelspur Samedan - Bever war mir neu. Komfortabel finde ich die vielen Einblendungen. Bei Videos dieser Art lege ich sonst oft das Tablet daneben, um das Streckenband zu sehen. Einzig vermisst habe ich weitere Einblendungen zu den kreuzenden Zügen, z. B. Zuoz 17:35 (bei dem rasanten Steuerwagen dachte ich kurz: Ach, hier nun auch Triebwagen unterwegs?) und Susch 44:15 aber das schmälert nicht den tollen Gesamteindruck.
Es gibt schon schöne Fleckchen auf dieser Welt. Amazing ! Die Qualität dieses Videos wie immer 1A. gruss

Thank you, I do like these cab view rid-a-longs, on a sunny day and at 1440p60 which my monitor can support. As I have read, but forget quickly, UA-cam does first release videos in 420p, if it thinks there are viewers willing to watch that download, since higher resolutions require more time and effort, to be available.
My mother's parents where from Sirnach, Thurgau, and during my early teens, (with Mother), was the second and last return trip to Switzerland. Even as a child, I remember, really enjoying all that I could see. And, I loved them train rides. I still do! These and other videos will be my final visits to Switzerland.

Are all trains on this line loco hauled? Those RhB locos are very neat, very much like slightly smaller versions of Re 4/4. That ATC system beeps when it gets a caution signal, but then goes on beeping four or five more times after that, which seems a bit distracting, particularly if you get two caution signals in quick succession.
At the moment almost all of them. Yeah they are similar to the Re 4/4. The new sistem is getting installed everywhere and its just quite.
