Thank God I've had this problem since I bought my truck and ive done everything to fix the misfire I have and that rich fuel smell from the exhaust and it seems to be it
Couple ways you can do it. 1). Pull the fuelpump relay & jumper it across with alligator clips & wire to a constant-on state & wait for a leak. 2). Pull the fuel rail inlet hose, connect it to an air compressor *THROUGH A TRUSTED REGULATOR* at the specified fuel system pressure & either wait for drips or if fuel & fuel hose are empty, immerse the injector tips in a shallow pan of water & watch for bubbles, just like checking a tire for leaks. If your injector has its inlet at the top, you can pull them individually, slip a balloon over the tip & pressure test using method #2.Balloon must be absolutely flat deflated on installation, so keep it squeezed flat when slipping it over injector If it fills detectably AT ALL after pressurized, it's a fail. Give this test a good hour - hour & 1/2, due to the amount of air needed to see a change in state.
Actually it will work if the car is warm also but you wont notice the cranking problems because by then the vehicle would have pushed all of the built up fuel out of the system. But you will notice the leak still.
I am praying to god that this is my case. Thanks for the vide, gonna take the fuel rail off and inspect. I messed with my injectors earlier this year and then my car started backfiring, crazy huh

Miguel A Calpotura that’s one way to charge the system if it’s in a bmw Audi or Mercedes. Once you turn the key to create pressure make sure you have the injectors pulled up to see where the leak is it might take a while for it to drop but any drip is a bad drip
Depends. My newer VW will prime the pump when the passenger side door opens. My older Audi from the 90s requires cranking the engine and the ECU seeing more than 13 RPM from the engine speed sensor before engaging the fuel pump relay.

Hey thanks for the info I just got a set of injectors for my 2000 Chevy Silverado 2500 and every time I shut the truck off and start it back up it’s a bitch to start up but yeah thanks for the info on how to check a leaking fuel injector
My car start up fine when the engine is cool! If I drive about 30 minutes and turned off the car, it will not start! Do you think I have the same as yours?
HI, sorry its so long since you repaired your BMW only I have the same issue, I removed the fuel pump fuse while the hot engine zero fuel pressure at the rail. The next day no starting problems. Leave the fuse in and it will miss fire all over the place. So you can lift the complete fuel rail and injectors with wiring, that way I can do the same leak down test you did to find the bad injector. Did you just change that one injector without any issues or all of them. Dave. LONDON
Ok so here we go my car runs fine when cold no miss or anything but as it starts warming up I start smelling gas and starts missing once I push pedal half way then picks up and goes and when I try to start my car when ots warm it's harder to start then when it's cold could this be my issue
Simple test, pull the fuel rail and see if it leaks you shouldn't be smelling any sort of raw fuel. One of those injectors must be leaking into the intake manifold causing you to smell gas.
Pretty easy solution. So if anybody could confirm. We remove the fuel rail and put the car to the ON position to prime the fuel rail, not start it. And we should hopefully find which one is leaking?
I feel like mine is leaking but I’m having different symptoms than other people. If I turn my truck off and 5 minutes later go to turn it back on it fires up so fast like someone sprayed starting fluid down the cylinders. I know that sounds like a silly problem but I feel like fires up waaaaaaay faster than it should. Which makes me think that an injector is dropping enough fuel in the cylinder to make it fire off real fast. Also I’m getting only around 10 mpg I have a slightly rough idle too. Granted it is a 5.9l so I don’t expect crazy gas mileage but sometimes it’ll drop to 6-7 mpg if I don’t baby it. Any ideas?
If gas were dripping into your cylinder it wouldn't start quicker and it would also backfire quite a bit even if it did so I believe you may have another problem
Also to be honest if you don't have a cel or smell gas or see any visual leaks your good to go. Like you said you have a 5.9L. You got a gas guzzler my man

How did you exactly pressurize the fuel system from the outside?
Couple ways you can do it. 1). Pull the fuelpump relay & jumper it across with alligator clips & wire to a constant-on state & wait for a leak. 2). could that be the cause of cold start stalling ?
Should this be done in a warm or cold engine? Or does it not matter?
Cold starts only, when it's warm it wont work
Actually it will work if the car is warm also but you wont notice the cranking problems because by then the vehicle would have pushed all of the built up fuel out of the system. But you will notice the leak still.

That can definitely cause a backfire from fuel leaking from the injectors (as shown in the video) and building up in the cylinders.

The only way your oil gets a gas smell is if your piston rings are bad
