Mostly a target shooter with a occasional whitetail hunt. The deal was on the Vital x 405. I swaped out the scope with a Ma3ty 1.5 5x32 crossbow scope and custom Hyper 20 inch bolts with a grinded down 95 grains brass insert and a swhacker silver yellow band 100 gain 1.75 cut broadhead . Total weight 420 grains. good job on your videos.
Recently purchased the vital x pro right out of the box put it together mounted the scope , no joke shot at ten yards dead nut , was expecting it to be off a couple of inches but not shot three bolts still dead on moved back to 25 shot three more all three bulls eye , love this cross bow easy draw , plenty fast and accurate so far so good !!
I just bought one today, I'm looking forward to sighting it in tomorrow, although living in Canada our prices are a fair bit more expensive. I love the compactness, that was something that caught my eye when i was at Cabela's. Thanks for the video, usually I research a product before buying it but didn't on this one and your video reassured me that this was a good buy
To be honest here, I've had 3 KI bows, Furious pro 9.5, Fatal X and speed 425. The best one was the Speed 425. It lasted me a second before breaking! The Furious Pro 9.5 only last 7 shots then 11 shots on the Expert fix from Ki. The Fatal X lasted 33 Shots before the serving on the string came apart! All 3 bows the string and cables broke. I was shooting 425 grain 20 inch Victory X-bolts. I've used the same bolts in my Barnet Xp 400, Mission crossbows and never had a problem. Those bows all had over 1k shots on them. NO problems whatsoever! Save your money and buy a better quality crossbow! These are just wall hangers! Ki does have good customer service though. But the quality is like buying a knock of Chinese Dodge Neon! Buy an Excalibur crossbow or Barnett and You will personally thank me! This guy is a reviewer for Ki, which doesn't help with honest reviews. Maybe Ki's higher end bows are a lot better idk? But trust me steer clear of this crap! Just Google problems and call local bow shops and ask bout the problems with them.
Man Ryan, I’m sorry this has been your experience with KI. I totally get it, if this was my experience with their bows I’d have similar conclusions. However, myself and many of my hunting partners have had a very positive experience with KI products, and the X-cam line of bows brings the core of KI’s top tech into platforms most people can afford. Though you may not agree, I think they’re badass bows for the price points they come in at. Regardless of what bow you go with, I wish you nothing but a successful and safe 2023 hunting season 🤘
@draggindeeroutdoors Thank you. I definitely enjoy your videos. I can agree that their bows do offer a lot of bang for your buck. Like i said there customer service is on point and definitely made up for the quality issues. I would definitely like to shoot one of their swat bows. I was going to purchase one of them before I switched to excalibur. I had a few Ravins, fantastic bow, but they were loud and the strings and cables didn't last a long time. Mission sub-1 xr is probably my favorite bow. They are just a little too heavy for my liking. Barnett crossbows are a very reliable bow. They just seem like cheaper quality bow on the fit and finish. Ki definitely has a good fit and finish. I don't know if I just had bad luck with them. I really did like the Fatal X that I bought. It looked like the string catch was to pointed and was causing wear on the serving. From what I read they re- designed the string catch on this year bows cause of that. I just haven't got to see or shot one for this year models. I do like the style of their bows, maybe I might give them another shot. I'm always buying and trading crossbows and compound bows. I've probably had 12 different crossbows in the past 3 years.
my new vital x coming today! my shooting eye started bleeding internally....again....little over a week ago, and i know my eye surgeon is going to tell me tomorrow not to be physically straining myself for a month. bow season starts a month from the end of this week. i'm 72 and yanking around on the guts of my soon to be replaced lawn tractor is probably what precipitayed it....also fussing and cussing the mower deck, so i'm sure my blood pressure was getting a work out too! my first gen ki hero 380 has several years on it in the woods, but continues to be very reliable, pretty accurate, and only required my son and i to replace the center serving ourselves about this same time last year. watched your videos last week, as best possible, with my one remaining also poorly functioing eye and the 50% breakover with option of going to a crank gave me some hope of still chasing those deer in a month. my shooting eye has been steadally improving, more or less, the last several days. guess i will pull my nolonger made nikon bolt off the 380 today before the ups man gets here. can barely see well enough to key all this in, but the ki bows are pretty straightforeward to assemble and the nikon should go on without hassle of leveling, guessing new scope eye relief and what not. last time my same eye crapped out, it took almost a year before i could see well enough to even use a magnafied optic. thanks for giving me some hope this last week. if limbs or string blows right off....like they used to on compounds back in my 20's/30's, then i take it all back, ha ha!!!! today will make my fourth crossbowand and none have blown up yet.... knock on wood???? thanks again and as whoteewho would say "have fun draggin' those deers out"!!!!
was able to see xbow bag through ki little junker scope tonight. just got vtal x togethertonight right before dark and took it out for a look through in case i want to leave my good nikon xbow scope on my already sighted in ki 380. glass was pretty clear for being a more or less starter scope and my eye being shot up at doctors' office yesterday. light transmission not really that bad either....for a 4x 32mm eye box was better than i expected. i'm like you in that all the lines kind of busy up the sight picture, but with ny eye issues the thick lines are easier to make out in low light conditions since it isn't illuminated at that combo price point anyway. i would have see better in the woods to gripe much about it anyway. thanks again for taking time and trouble to get back to me. those deer are waiting for us out there somewhere!!!!@@draggindeeroutdoors
I’m new to crossbow hunting this year will be my first year. I’ve went through a lot of videos but man yours I really like you explain it well I’m looking at getting the killer instinct vital X 405
Thanks, Mike! I really like the Vital X 405, for the price it’s such a great bow. Hopefully you like it as much as I do! Reach out if ya have any questions!
Hey how did you like your lethal 405 I picked one up the other day used like brand new at the local pawn shop the thing was only shot a few times but I have heard people say the limbs break all the time on them mine haven't and nothing else has but wanted to ask how yours was and how many shots you have on it thanks...
Hey bud thanks for the video I've got one of those crossbows on the way I figure that'll be a bad weather Bow I don't want to have my my mission crossbow out there or my Ravin crossbow out in a lot of rain I think this one to do the trick for bad weather I hope the trigger works good on this one the last one I had that was a Killer Instinct the trigger wasn't any good at all
I'm looking to purchase my first crossbow. bm also on a limited budget. I have been looking at the Killer Instinct Rival 410 Hunt ready package for around $350. I've also been looking at the Vital X. What are your thoughts, and what would you recommend? Your videos are very informative. Thank you for what you do.
Spoke with Killer Instinct today about buying the Vital X today. Only problem was when I went to order there are no sting suppressors included. When I called, they said they not available yet. But I see in your video yours has string suppressors What’s the deal? Do you have a part number or something that can tell me what to order?
I like a lot of things about this crossbow but I’m having trouble getting consistent groups. I’ll have one hitting the bull eyes then the next two are ten inches low. Any tips or reasons why this may be happening? I already switched the scope and went to heavier victory bolts with 150 grain tips. Still shoots erratic. Thanks and love the channel!
Get some better crossbow bolts and it will take care of your problem I had to get some Black Eagle crossbow bolts and they shoot out of my crossbow really good the factory ones are the lighted Killer Instinct crossbow bolts I can't get them to hit the same spot to save my life they're just not made well I don't think I don't know why they wouldn't be but they're not get you some Black Eagle bolts and you'll be good
Which do you like better? The Diesel or the Vital? I've killed deer with compound bows but I want to try getting a crossbow for the first time. I'm willing to spend the extra 100 bucks, but do you think it's worth it for the scope and the adjustable stock?
If you can get your hands on them and shoot ‘em do it. My wife likes the Diesel better, so do a few friends. I personally like the feel of the vital. Really is what feels best to you!
just grab one couple days ago and i think it shoots fine. the bow itself looks great and all but the only thing i dislike about it is the scope need to be upgrade. another thing is the quiver needs to be wider. im using muzzy 100gr broadhead and i cant store bolts with broadhead on the two outside of the quiver. no matter how i try turning the bolts so will fit in without cutting the quiver no can do. i guest either just carry 2 bolts with broadheads only or go with smaller broadheads so all 4 will fit in
How was the sighting in then for this vital x was it 30 for the first line and 40 for second for sure what about 3rd line, would it shoot fast enough to be 40-50 for second line if the first line is 0-30?
@@draggindeeroutdoors was gonna use the arrows that came with bow.but i shot the first shot at 20 on the first line and was dead on moved to 30 with second line but then it went hight so i shot again at 30 using first line and it was dead on again
@@draggindeeroutdoors I actually stopped by the Raleigh Bass Pro this morning. They had one in stock and I handled it. Didn't get to shoot it but it's a great looking bow. Excellent design. Very lightweight. I didn't expect it to have much of a scope, especially not for $400 bucks. Should have bought it but will go back and get one soon.
IMO, the majority of limb issues are related to user error (some of which the user is completely unaware of). But, every manufacturer has some bad limbs slip through the cracks. I’d love to do a side-by-side, getting access to several manufacturers and bows is the challenge. What brands/models specifically are you interested in?
@draggindeeroutdoors lmao, that's exactly what the tech at killer instinct told me after I went through 3 sets of limbs in under 30 days of owning the crossbow. I sent it back through Amazon for a full refund. I hunted with a crossbow for 7 years before I got a killer instinct. I hunted all last year with my new centerpoint crossbow and plan to hunt with it this year. I call bullshit on your operator error. So, im guessing that's a no, they haven't fixed the limb issues? Like I said I would love to see a HONEST side by side comparison with other brands of crossbows. The "best in that price point" is bs IMO
@@johnhayes2299 I’m sorry to hear about your experience. Mine has been very positive with KI crossbows. I don’t have any insight into KI’s limb production, if I did I’d share it. What I have seen first hand combined with many of the questions/comments I get, there are lot of people out there who just don’t know the ins and outs of crossbows and end up having issues. I’ve seen plenty of people treat their xbow like a shovel too, obviously that leads to issues. That’s not to say manufacturers never have problems, I just don’t think that’s the majority of limb problems. Wishing you nothing but positive experiences with your future crossbows 👍
@@draggindeeroutdoors Thanks. I'm more than happy with my wrath. Do you review other crossbows besides KI? I love your general crossbow content. I look forward to getting back up to Michigan again and getting another buck!
I think its important to note just how light the stock bolts are relative to the amount of energy these xbows are putting out. You are better off with 450 grains and up.
The scope is perfectly fine, some people may prefer the horizontal, thicker reticle lines. I personally prefer the dots of a speedring scope. The Diesel X and Vital X are both fantastic bows, can’t go wrong with either 👍
You will want to upgrade either scope. I went Vortex and it is much better, but the reticle is too small for my old eyes. So I am still looking for my final choice
Went to purchase but DRAGGINDEER discount is not accepted. Was this is 24 hour window to get the disount? The discount would put me over the edge to purchase.
@@draggindeeroutdoors You are correct sir. I just ordered the Killer Instincts Vital X with "Draggindeer" coupon code and got the 20% discount. At $369 that's an insane deal. . Folks get it while you can. I'm sure the coupon code will not last long.
From your video, I presume that you prefer the Vital X over the Diesel XElite? Too bad KI didn't use the same scope for both models but then again, they were able to keep the price down on the Vital X. Question, does Killer Instinct randomly send you crossbows to test out for UA-cam? Curious and thanks for your hard work
Thanks, Kurt. It's a tough one between the Diesel X and the Vital X, both really solid. I personally though would go Vital X due to the lighter weight and balance. And there is nothing wrong with the scope on the Vital, it's just not what I prefer. To answer your 2nd question, I've worked with KI for a few years now. They send me bows and gear to test out and do videos on. Some stuff I get to keep, other stuff I send back after testing. It's fun, they're a great group of people!
@draggindeeroutdoors that's awesome and I would absolutely love to do something like that myself. I'm in Michigan, and I don't live too far from their office in Frankenmuth. It would be fun to visit their establishment someday. My only concern is using rope cockers as I fell 20 feet out of my treestand bow hunting. Therefore, I need something with a hand crank. I have the Boss 405, but the serving string seems to Frey rather fast. Plus, I like the new cams on both of those crossbows. Blessings
Newbie here. Im considering what my first crossbow will be. Ive watched 100's of videos and have seen a lot of lower end K.I suffering broken limbs. Im leaning toward a barnett because of this. I like the k.i look however. Thoughts?
Lots of factors play a role in limbs breaking, but from what I’ve seen/heard…I think the majority of limb issues are some level of user error. With that said, bad limbs from the factory slip through the cracks with every manufacturer. If you can, go to a pro shop and shoot em, then make your decision 👍
I emailed barnett 2 weeks ago with questions...crickets. emailed K I and got a response the next day. I'll be buying a k.i and quite possibly the deisel x
Well, I got my vital x today after I got home and did a few shots out of it. And with 390 Grain Bolt that came with it it shot 395 feet per Second in which I kind of figured, that's probably what it would do. But you know what I was kind of surprised the little crossbow by being so little? It was heavier than I thought it would Be You know, my expectations was not really Good on this crossbow But boy was I surprised I got it on Ebay for 349 Dollers I was really surprised on how well it shot. And I don't think the trigger is really that bad at all. It's actually smooth, it does have a little travel to it. But overall for the money, I think it's really good. I would have to say it's probably the best killer instinct. Crossbow that I've ever seen or I have ever shot
Shot more shots and do a long term review. I'm with the other commenters. My 415 has a fractured limb shooting the standard arrows that came with it!..... Man I want to believe this crossbow is better BUT...... ONLY TIME WILL TELL
I will stick with my fatal X I just got a vital X and it doesn’t shoot like my fatal .the barrel only has 2 spots where arrow touches the barrel and for that reason the arrow is flexing to much coming off the bow even with a 445 grain arrows and a upgraded Hawk scope I can only get a 4-5 “ groups at 40 my fatal X I can bust nocks off at 40 1” or under ..
I’m not sure why that is, did you reach out to KI regarding the string stops? The X cam doesn’t need ‘em, but I understand the disappointment. Hope you’re enjoying the bow otherwise
So ive used a killer instinct speed 425 for a couple years now. Issue I have is the lighted scope w speed ring. I cannot see anything once sun goes down. What is a better scope to use? Thanks
Your using the wrong scope. I use killer instinct reticle as you call speed scope. My advice is dump it at a pawnshop. Then buy speed dial. The triangle is dead on 10 to 25 yards. I just put it where it should be on deer this side of 35 yards. But usually prefer setting up very close shots to reclaim the hmagnus and bolt And these aren't alert to you in some way. Thanks for video.
Thanks, Dutch. I wanted to showcase exactly what comes from KI with this bow (optics included). Though some like you and I prefer the speedring style scope, others may prefer the factor Vital scope. Optics aside, the vital is an awesome bow!
@@draggindeeroutdoors Agreed. I got amped 415. Runs 400 gr at 380 fps. 425 runs just as flat as 400 gr to 30. MAD penetration into deer. I got a rear diagonasll shotsl the center of the thorax and exiting out the front of ches an entering near back of rib cage. Opposite side t . No guts involved. And thru all vessels in and around heart and lung.. Crossbows have truly amazing momentum and power compared to bows. Never would I try that with a bow. I would definitely get this xbow. I chucked the egromics on mine and then attached a broomhandle and single point sling. Gies well with saddle.
Some people like the fixed reticle with the horizontal lines. The optics and I'd presume the non-adjustability is how they were able to offer this bow for $100 less than the Diesel X.
You would be better off, taking that junk scope off and putting a speed scope on it…. I know a few years ago. Killer instinct had a ton of issues with their bows. I wonder if that has been fixed now for the money it’s a decent bowl but I’ll stick with my ravin way better accuracy
@draggindeeroutdoors 3 strings in 2 years, and I would get it signed in and when I would go to shoot a deer it wouldn't even be close, then I would come home and it would miss the target, then I would resight it in and then the same thing, I had other xbows and never seen anything like it.
I'm sorry to hear that man cuz I bought one of these vital X crossbows just for a backup for bad weather and man that's really really good I was really surprised on how well it shot my expectations weren't really that high on it but I was surprised
I wouldn’t say they are junk, for some the supplied scope is all they need to get out in the woods. And at the price point of the Vital, one can’t expect a premium optics package.
These things are absolutely junk Mine exploded on me after 10 shots and I’m still waiting on the company to send a new one Do your research people the limbs are weak and will fail
Mostly a target shooter with a occasional whitetail hunt. The deal was on the Vital x 405. How was the sighting in then for this vital x was it 30 for the first line and 40 for second for sure what about 3rd line, would it shoot fast enough to be 40-50 for second line if the first line is 0-30?
That’s how I did it:
1=30
2=40
3=50
4=60
Depending on arrow weight, you may have to go 20/30/40/50 if you shoot heavier than stock HYPR arrows.
@@draggindeeroutdoors was gonna use the arrows that came with bow.but i shot the first shot at 20 on the first line and was dead on moved to 30 with second line but then it went hight so i shot again at 30 using first line and it was dead on again
I think I'll buy this bow and just replace the scope---orobably with a Hawke XB1
It’s a great bow!! If ya get one let me know what you think!
Are they still having limb issues? I would love for you to do a side by side comparison with other brands and honest opinion.
I agree, the scope is messy 😂 pretty sure I'm ordering the deisel x via your code next weekend.
The scope is perfectly fine, some people may prefer the horizontal, thicker reticle lines. I personally prefer the dots of a speedring scope. The Diesel X and Vital X are both fantastic bows, can’t go wrong with either 👍
which is better the diesel or the vital?
You will want to upgrade either scope. I went Vortex and it is much better, but the reticle is too small for my old eyes. So I am still looking for my final choice
Went to purchase but DRAGGINDEER discount is not accepted. Was this is 24 hour window to get the disount? The discount would put me over the edge to purchase.
Code is still active. Apply it in the payment section by clicking the text “coupon/gift certificate”
@@draggindeeroutdoors You are correct sir. I just ordered the Killer Instincts Vital X with "Draggindeer" coupon code and got the 20% discount. At $369 that's an insane deal. . Folks get it while you can. I'm sure the coupon code will not last long.
Good Evening over there, did you speed test that?
Mid 380s? FPS
No, I’m sorry. I need to. A friend is currently borrowing that bow though for his kid, when I get it back I’ll run it through the chrono 👍
@@draggindeeroutdoors ok cool,
Do they come sighted in from the factory
They do not
From your video, I presume that you prefer the Vital X over the Diesel XElite?
Blessings
Very impressive
Thanks, Gary! It’s a great bow 👍
@@masterofmanythings1 I think you’ll really like the Diesel X 👍
So what’s a “limited” lifetime warranty?
Lifetime warranty on non-wearable components, valid for the original owner
Great review, Don! It’s a fantastic bow for the money, glad you like it 👍 good luck this fall!
good luck to you to this Fall Bud
Got mine for 380 off Amazon
NICE!!
Shot more shots and do a long term review. I'm with the other commenters.
My 415 has a fractured limb shooting the standard arrows that came with it!.....
Man I want to believe this crossbow is better BUT...... ONLY TIME WILL TELL
Noted! I’ll do my best to keep a shot count.
Shoot whatever works best for you 👍
Just bought it looks like there isn’t string stops, not the end of the world but somewhat disappointing. I can update once it shows up.
Thanks
Which scope exactly is on the Speed 425?
I got the killer instinct speed scope to I like it better then the one that comes with the scope
Website says 7.8 lbs, you say 6.4 lbs. Which is it?
Website was updated after this video to 7.8 lbs
Jus bought one today rural king 220$ hurry up.
That’s a steal!!!
@@draggindeeroutdoors it is I watched all the videos so hopefully it serves me well.
An amazing bow, would blow my poe-lang out of the water 💯🎯🎯🎯🎯
It’s pretty sweet 🤘
@@draggindeeroutdoors can't get them in the uk yet and definitely not in Ireland 🤣🤣
Be nice to have this to kill one with before my neck surgery comes up. Loojks sweeeeet
Wishing you a smooth surgery. Good luck 👍
I wonder why Killer Instinct is so cheap that they didn't put the speedring scope in the package on this crossbow
Shoot what makes ya happy. I’ll gladly stick with my KI bows!
3.5lb trigger.... Did you measure that? Not trying to be a pr*ck, but I don't believe ANYTHING manufactures say about xbow triggers.
No I did not measure it
I will never buy another killer instinct ever again.
Sorry to hear that. What happened?
@draggindeeroutdoors 3 strings in 2 years, and I would get it signed in and when I would go to shoot a deer it wouldn't even be close, then I would come home and it would miss the target, then I would resight it in and then the same thing, I had other xbows and never seen anything like it.
Did you ever think maybe you had a bad scope
@donwilson350 yes, I tried 2 different scopes. It wasn't the scope or bolts, everything is tight.
I'm sorry to hear that man cuz I bought one of these vital X crossbows just for a backup for bad weather and man that's really really good I was really surprised on how well it shot my expectations weren't really that high on it but I was surprised
Killer instinct does not stand behind there bows
That has not been my experience, can you elaborate on this statement?
The scopes are junk that they come with .
I wouldn’t say they are junk, for some the supplied scope is all they need to get out in the woods. And at the price point of the Vital, one can’t expect a premium optics package.
These things are absolutely junk
Mine exploded on me after 10 shots and I’m still waiting on the company to send a new one
Do your research people the limbs are weak and will fail
Sorry to hear that, Ron. Hope you get your bow fixed soon! The Vital X’s within my collective group of friends have done well so far.
