Thank you Dave, this came in handy when replacing my own shock absorbers. For anyone looking to try this repair themselves, you don't need to remove the scuttleboard if you have a 14mm spanner. If you only have a socket then you'll need to take apart the scuttleboard like I did. Have your jack underneath ready to take the weight once you remove the three big bolts from the shock absorber. Plus the top nut of the shock absorber can be a pain to get off, you'll need a 14mm spanner with an allen key and/or impact drill whilst wedging something between the three threads at the top
Well presented video with some great points, including safety. When I worked in the trade I tried to steer well clear of tight costumers some of them expected you to work for nothing.
Top video, hands on with the lingo mucker it was really informative. Im enriched, going into a shock fest on the front soon. Been round the block with all sorts of brands, Napa inc. Looks just the same as many, cheapo chinese imports with nothing but a small serial number on them. Gonna subscribe i could listen to your demos all day long. Be lucky mate.
I did mine yesterday, I was confused as to why you removed the scuttle, washer fluid pipes, side engine bay trim, and the brake caliper. it's not necessary. Good tip about the drive shaft though, I nearly pulled mine out due to a schoolboy error... just about got away with it 😆 .
Quite enjoyed this. Last time my Civic went for a test, guy said "Heck its like a new car under here!!" I said "Yeah, just decided to get ahead of it". Struts not exactly a fun job but it gets rid of a lot of clonks! MOTs fair in my view. It does save lives, even if its like going to the dentist.
This klong problem is obviously widespread on civic 8. It's caused by the plastic part fitted to the shock absorber spring taking up play with the bearing, isn't it? What mileage or year did this happen to you? It happened to me after 12 years and 146,000km. Can I only change the plastic part and the bearing? Or do you change everything except the spring? Thanks for your feedback
We’ve used Napa for just over a year only issue we’ve seen is from the brakes, brake noise we normally used pagid which I believe are superior. As regards rest of Napa products the jury is out time will tell.
Been fitting Napa parts since EAMF started stocking them, too early to tell if they are good or not but they r offering a warranty so I'm keeping the invoices carefully🤣🤣🤣 I'm what u call a weekend warrior 👍
Good job as always Dave, you forgot to say "from Napa, not a sponsor". Watched an SMA video a while ago and actually seen one of your business cards or a sticker maybe in the background. Cheers
Nice job Dave. Hate doing front shocks, and I'd have torn in and had the drive shaft fall out. That ARB link looked like it was going the same way as the shock.
Great job Dave , and camera 🎥 work , made it look simple , ….. I know what you mean about the springs , I’ve got the wee compressors ones that you use with a spanner I would put 3 on as I’m a bit paranoid of the spring popping out or the metal hook in one of the compressors snapping , cheers , top work as usual
I’ve been fitting Napa springs and dampers for about a year now on lower end market cars. In fact I’ve got a pair of rears to put on a Hyundai on Tuesday. I’ve had no problems with them as yet and as you say there cheap. Time will tell I suppose…..
Have used Napa shocks a couple of times, mainly for same reason as your punter Dave , camel and sandstorm spring to mind , punters dont appreciate how dangerous our job can be , I always strap the spring to the tool ,for justin , had the same on a civic last year , not much room for movement , I've got one of those clicky wrenches better by hand than gunning it up so tight that it could snap 👍👍

Hello, I have a Honda Civic 8 and the front shock absorbers make a rattling noise at the top when compressed on a speed bump. It seems that this is a problem with the plastic shock absorber head which takes up play with the bearing, do you agree? My car has 146,000 km, do I have to change everything or just the shock absorber bearing? Sorry for my English and thank you for your reply!
I have an 09 Civic 5drs diesel and am in the process of buying new suspension parts. So far I've found shocks, springs, bump stops, strut bearings and drop links. While the suspension is in pieces, are there any other parts that should be changed/upgraded?
Just replaced two front shocks on my civic, got a knocing noise on turning now..one side I had the driveshaft out minus the in portion due to a split boot but I seemed to get it back in ok, could it be related to this?...its more of a creak when turning lock to lock
@@jasonburden7999 i tightened the top mounts more and it went away for a bit, my sister is driving the car now and it has a similar creak but further down..looks like a worn bush ok the wishbone

Like you said, unnecessary to take it off the hub, great strategy with the jack and tie to hold it in place. Great content .

Thanks Dave. Planning to swap mine out at weekend. Didn't know about the drive shaft issue!
Nice tip with the drive shaft Dave, I have seen it happen before but I for one never thought about doing that. Good man Dave 😉

I have installed QH on mine and they are ok ,obviously time will tell. Best to go oem and change both to have same rebound stiffness.
Not used any napa suspension parts yet. But the filters seam good so far. The factors have been stocking them for about 8 mouths hear
Very completed vidéo !

How are the Napa parts working out? Are you still fitting Napa stuff?
I’m assuming Napa parts are made in China, since they’re sold at low prices.
Isn't it generally recommended to replace shocks in pairs??????
as mentioned in the video at 30:00
Yes you probably should as otherwise one shock absorber will be less worn than the other and you will probably feel it in the ride
Does anybody know the torque spec for front struts (top 3 flange nuts) on 2017 honda civic touring?
