I can't believe this guy made me popcorn and told me about his travels around America and never thought to bring up he's a mixing master...

That drum beat at the end sounds amazing the way he processed it.

Once I discovered he worked on Los Lobos and Latin Playboys I became obsessed. I looked up every record he’s engineered or produced and listened to em all.
My faves are Paul Simon, Bonnie Raitt, Paolo Nutini..: I’m sure there’s more now as it’s been a few years.

It looks like a M88 from Beyerdynamic

When he says "Bone mic" he's more talking about the concept and the placement of the mic (rather than the brand or model), and this includes the fact that he usually uses a lot of processing/saturation on it. This concept of mic placement seems very similar to what others call a "Wurst mic", "Knee mic", or a "Crotch mic". You might search those terms and see what you find. At any rate, it looks like he's using a Beyerdynamic M 69 for that position in this particular video.

so tired of the boring bs claim that smaller kits are better, and people who use them are more creative, better etc.
    spare me.
as a drummer i like playing lots of drums on a set, and as a fan i like seeing and hearing other players w lots of drums in their set.
enjoy your white stripes and travis barker while i enjoy rush, terry bozio and dozens of others.

yes and i'm not stuck on him saying it only...
i'm annoyed by the cliche' comments from mostly wanna be hipster and millennial clowns etc, w their bs claims that better drummers play smaller kits bs bs bs bs... is all.
not all aimed at tchad, it's aimed at these annoying morons who keep touting this bs claim.

Different tools for different applications (and genres)
You folk suffer from the mind virus known as “the English language” which has you using the verb “to be” or “is”, injecting your subjective opinion as though it were objectively observable.
E-prime, and research into its application may help solve this mental parasite you are spreading to other hosts, and relieve a multitude of stressors you place on yourself and others. Fnord.
Sometimes a big kit is applicable, sometimes a small kit. Listening to a death metal band on a 3 piece jazz kit would probably be underwhelming (though I’d venture some could pull it off). Conversely: a huge prof rock kit would be busy and distracting to a straight rock/pop group.
Seriously though, learning the philosophical implication of the words you use to describe the reality you live in will have an immense impact on your internal dialogue, serious upgrades possible. E prime, for the win.
      Thank you
