The diversity seen in only this tiny snippet of the show is astonishing.
Dear Evan Hansen should take notes, those cowards.
You Stink. It's not about diversity it's about finding who is best for the role and in a musical it's about who's voice fits the song and how they can play their role.
Comrade ShadowKat There are plenty of talented actors and actresses of color who are capable of the roles. There is no way not one of them has auditioned.
You Stink. They auditioned sure but the ones who got the role were pretty suited/fit what they were looking for in that character.
soo... they were looking for white people? Seriously, look a bit further than what the world tells you, racism is real and it's not always intentional, but always apparant.
Amazing how far this show has come. It's so different now.
The fact that the original Ride The Cyclone was performed at the same theatre boggles my mind.
I totally forgot cyclone was preformed at citadel
Pre-broadway???!!!?? I have literally been waiting years for this show to be on broadway holy shit
The fact that Spongebob, Mean Girls and Frozen have had an easier run to Broadway makes me really upset
Steph Piano I know right! It's horrendous
Well not to worry because it's coming to Broadway in 2019!!
It is?!
Jess S. Yep! It's going to have a tryout in London and then heads to Broadway next year!!! Eva Nobdelza (hopefully I spelled it right) is going to play Eurydice in the Broadway-Bound production!!
Just saw this today. It was sick!!
People don't know what they're missing out on fr.
General Allan _ lucky
Amber Gray
*Amber gay
Steph Piano I agree
exactly
yep
good point
Amazing how far they've come! Good luck at the Tony's tonight
My brother being a huge mythology nerd, told me all about the story of Orpheus, so finding out this musical exists based off of that tale really gives me high hopes for it! :D this snippet is promising!
You should check out the play Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl. It's another retelling of the Orpheus myth.
How have I somehow never seen this promo until now? It’s cool to see the evolution of everything. Also did not expect that rasp on Reeve’s “Wait for me” with how clear he is on the newer album
Well, I don't live in Canada, but imagine my surprise when I click on this after becoming a fan of Mitchell's album and seeing Patrick Page -- an actor I've seen in a few Washington D.C. productions, including a marvelous turn as Coriolanus -- pop up. It's like going to a random restaurant you've always liked but never told anybody about, only to discover one of your best friends seated a table across from you.
Ohmygod it's Hélène
if this doesn’t blow up as soon as it hits broadway I will be severely disappointed. listened to it for the first time last night & cried quite a few time. this musical is the most beautiful, unique work of art I’ve come across in a while!
Sydni Eliza It’s on Broadway soon Walter Kerr Theatre 3/22
Don’t worry. It did.
I love the diversity of the cast XD but knowing the original Myth (as I am in love with Greek, Roman and Egyptian myth) I knowwww this can't have a happily ever after
sadly it was not, but there was a nice bittersweet number they don't put in the cast album called 'raise my cup' and it's the actors(Or the gods and the players) toasting to orpheus, wherever he is
@@elliotscasual2459 yeesh. They’re toasting to the pieces of his body floating in the river 😬
Reeve Carney! Always a great time when he’s there.
I think I’m probably at least 100 of the views on this already. I can’t stop watching it!
I just recently discovered that this was a thing, and my goodness I am in love with this musical already. I live in the states, so I'm not sure if or when I'd get the chance to see it in person, but this is fantastic. The wall part in the promo made me think of some current events happening here in the U.S.
*My Dream Cast For the Future of This Show*
Keep the Hades (of course!)
Keep the Persephone (Of course, again)
Change to the original Orpheus
Change to the original Eurydice (both the Eurydice and Orpheus in the live cast recording)
Keep this Hermes
agreed
Hermes in the current london run os sensational, saw him 3 times already completely fresh amazing take as is the Eurydice
i love reeve carney but damon’s voice is so astonishingly perfect for orpheus
@@jono3872 Totally agree, André De Shields has such stage presence and Eva Noblezada's voice gave me chills!!! (also she was so sweet and friendly to everyone at the stage door)
@@Boom23648 and they kept Amber!
*cries in 2020 AND ontarian*
Back when the tickets were $30 😧
Can somebody who's seen the production confirm to me that the lights are indeed moving above Orpheus as though he's traveling during 'wait for me'? 'cause if so I'm loving it!
and look how far they've come👏
literally shivered its so good
This cast need to come to Broadway!
This looks so good
I watched this the other day it was so good omg
I prefer Orpheus' original voice so much more
Honestly I have zero chance to go to Canada and watch that in the theatre, but I would buy the dvd edition. I just LOVE Hadestown. The music is perfect.
Look at Reeve!
Bring this performance 🎭 back to Edmonton !
Judged watched this and it’s good
I'm only mad that I can't see Hades and Persephone, I want to see the original Orpheus and Euridice
BRAVO !!
woah it really was a totally different Hermes from Andre DeShields
This production came before the London production, that's the production when Andre starts playing Hermes.
My baby is going in Broadway 😭
You know what i hate‽ when i think of a million dollar idea only for it to be already made years ago.
Hmmm gotta admit I’m not a big fan of this Orpheus from that snippet of “wait for me”
Ash Baker I agree, but I don't think it's all his fault. The first guy is just really hard to match. I saw the spider man musical, which Reeve Carney was in, and he was good in that. Weird example, I know 😅
I saw it twice and Reeve did a great job as Orpheus; but Damon Daunno definitely sounded more comfortable with the high notes on the album.
TerminalSaint I'm glad he was good! Also you're so lucky you got too see this, I have to wait till it comes back to the states ),:
I bought the soundtrack on a whim after hearing one of the songs on an AMV--worth the 11 bucks, so worth it.
TerminalSaint also I hope Damon Daunno gets more work after this cause I thought he was wonderful.
Yeah. I'm sure he's fine, but I don't think anyone can top Damon Daunno
i want a recording with this cast too.
IM IN LOVR
#HadestownfortheTony
I'm gonna piss myself I'm so excited
What IS THIS BECAUSE I LOVE IT
Are they going to release a CD with THIS cast???
Angel Andringa is the spotify version not this cast? It lists "original cast" as its artist but was published in 2017, so I assumed it was the current cast.... please let me know if you know!
This isn't the original cast, no. The original cast was performing off-broadway in New York, but then the show got moved to Edmonton!
Gray and Page are in the original cast, but I think they're the only ones. (Good ones to keep, mind you.)
So this musical is based on greek mythology like Percy Jackson... OMG YES
Yeah but this is better then Percy Jackson
I bet trump would love this
purplegirl 112 Why? It's kind of poking fun at him.
B cat Build the wall?
I hate that youre right
Hades is a more charismatic and competent leader then trump could ever be
purplegirl 112 Trum could never
I've went to see it in Edmonton I think for the first show?
It was once 30 dollars now its minimum 300
I was able to walk up and buy 159 dollar orchestra seats.
standing room is also really cheap. it’s all about knowing the time to buy
god i love patrick page
Did they cut "Flowers"?!?!?!? (please noooooo!!!)
Welp, time to get addicted to another musical
Doesn't Hermes mainly work for Zeus and not Hades
From a mythological standpoint, Hermes works for himself. It's hard to analyze Greco-Roman mythology because a large timespan of practice and a large geographic range makes for discrepancies all over the place. Generally, Hermes is a messenger and trickster god. That is pretty universal. When you get into specific texts, authors can conflict. In Homer, Hermes leads the souls of slain suitors to the underworld (likely where Mitchell's interpretation originates). In Hesiod, he adds deception to Pandora's box. In Athenian tragedies, he is often a spy. Aesop names him as a patron god of athletes. Also, he's a phallic god of boundaries (there are these statues called herms that are named for him, look them up if you don't mind seeing penises). He has many epithets: Diactoros (messenger), Hodios (of travellers), Agoraeus (of the market), and Psychopompos (conductor of souls). There's also a whole bunch that are variants of "tricky" and some more obscure ones. What in the ancient world isn't obscure.
They changed two of the main cast 😭
Reeve Carney is amazing. But i Don't feel the emotions unlike the original. Im sure it's different live than the audio, and im sure that's the case but I don't feel the emotion as much in "Wait for me" but he is an amazing fucking singer.
Yeha Damon's voice is so unique with his range and falsetto it makes everything else pale in comparison
I'm sorry but... I need the old cast on Broadway. I mean the new cast is good but the old is just absolutely amazing on a whole nother level. The new cast is still great though
Oh it's about the myth! Is it the one where Persephone is kidnapped by Hades and the thing about the seasons: half of them warm half of them cold?
Edit: Haha never mind. I just watched the TedEd video lol.
The 6 People who dislike this video are from “The Hate Group”
*We build a wall to build us free*
Me: NOPE NOPE NOPE NOT TRUMP *holds out cross*
ElectricBeth sadly it was written in 2015 ish so it was complete coincidence
It was written earlier than that. The original concept album for Hadestown, which included that song, was released in 2010.
I know that but still a crazy coincidence
I will LOVE this play and it's music
Why isnt this on broadway?!
musical_trashie09 3/22/19 it starts at the Walter Kerr Theatre
Hades seems a lil too aggressive doesn’t he?
If you listen to the original he sounds almost exactly the same
Hey MatPat Where’s Steph? -_- Nice then, thanks for assuring me!
This reminds me of Hamilton the musical
Sweet Puff sis it don’t add up???? what??? SKSKSKS
noooooooo
How???
anyone know where I can see this online? Im dutch so i'll never see this live, otherwise I would go.
I miss Kingsley as Hermès :(
That sounded nothing like the album, they chose the singers poorly
Uh Hades and Persephone were the same?
this trailer is kind of trash, not to hate or anything! i love the musical to death but or some reason i didnt love the vocals in this at all
