Revisiting The Motorola Razr - Now With Android 10! [Into The Fold Episode 2]
Вставка
- Опубліковано 20 вер 2024
- As one of only two smartphone makers offering a clamshell folding phone in 2020, Motorola finds itself locked in a brutal battle with Samsung. Besides nostalgia, the biggest advantage Motorola's Razr foldable phone can claim over the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is the large outer display. And with the latest Android update, Motorola just leaned into that advantage in a big way.
Welcome back to Into The Fold: a MrMobile video series that explores the many facets of life on a folding screen. In this episode, an exclusive first look at Android 10 running on the Motorola Razr - a phone that’s pushing the boundaries of what you can do with a foldable, without even opening it.

This just in: Motorola today confirmed that Android 11 will *also* be coming to the Motorola Razr (at least to US customers)! No timeframe as of yet, but encouraging news for Razr owners ... and the foldable space on the whole!
WOW. 😍
Awesome!
So it's like regular phone with a regular screen now ? 🤔 Why do we even need foldables ? Yes foldables are kinda sweet to look at but do they really provide us a better experience than regular phones ? Seems like a form over function kind of product. Nice video tho. I like your reviews a lot ✌️
It will only give Android 11 after that well bye bye folks see you soon. (Remember two major OS updates!😁); Whereas the Samsung one will provide till Android 12. Now if you eat 🥜, tell me which one will you choose?
Did Galaxy Flip release with Android 10? Because if it did, it means it will get Android 12, which is one major update more than Motorola. That is a huge point to note.
This is what I love about Michael, he presents useful insights, instead of just repeating the specs which we've all come to know from thousands of reviewers.
Arnab Majumder this is an idiotic comment.
@@shoneie Alright genius, just keep it to yourself.
@@shoneie Your reply to his comment is an idiotic comment.
Yeah I'm really impressed by his ability to keep the spec sheet reads and manufacturer bullets to a minimum.
Another great reviewer is flossycarter
love this unicorn, we need more unique ideas. phones and laptops are all the same now. nice to see experimentation.
Speaking of experimentation, I can't wait to see how Lenovo's weird X1(?) foldable tablet laptop thing plays out! (The one with the detachable bluetooth keyboard)
Those folding screens opened the flood gates!
Why hasn't this channel hit 1M is beyond me.
As always, great script Mr. Mobile 👌🏻Top video
It's getting there. Don't worry he'll get his due!
I love my Z flip, that RAZR is calling my name though, the nostalgia is too much to resist....
Unfortunately, I don't have Verizon and I'm not interested in switching.
It's been so nice to be back on the Razr. I love all my foldables, in their own ways, but the Razr has a character that's absent from the others.
@@TheMrMobile that's why I'm itching to get one ☹️
Dont
Better wait for 2nd gen IMO. It is very much needed for a huge refresh to make it at least relevant in today's market. Don't get me wrong I like it but I really want to see Moto do better than this, cheers :D
@@TechDove If you travel a lot (outside of current conditions) DON'T. Verizon and Sprint (premerger) were nothing but a pain for me with international travel. I pretty much stay on my Tmobile plan, buy my phones unlocked out of pocket by saving (LG V20 which I had till last summer, S10+ for now) and if I'll be in country long enough that the free 1g for text notifications and hoping on wifi is a hassle, I'll pay the 40-60usd in local currency (always cash) for a burn sim on the local network.
This looks surprisingly innovative.
One thing Motorola can never seem to accomplish.
It's such an amazing phone but the specs do not reflect it for the price. It's unfortunate because i like the design better than the galaxy z flip but the z flip had extremely better specs and cameras and a lower price
@@davidlegkodukh6969 They shouldn't even call it Motorola anymore. Just call it Lenovo.
@@davidlegkodukh6969 you just didnt know that Motorola invented the mobile phone
It's not. Z flip is the better, and cheaper device.
Dolce & Gabanna is staring at this gold razer with nostalgia and envy
the same on Naomi campbell used to fend off invasive and sticky racist folk
If this Razr came in hot pink (or “rose gold”) I bet that would also be popular lol
google: adds a full radar sensor to sense your hands
Motorola: hold my speaker.
Really moto is doing well
True... This seems to be the perfect balance between space optimization as the loud speaker has dual purpose and it's efficient enough to make the phone more aware of its surrounding.
@@akshayviruss exactly and now i want this feature on my s10. but we know thats never gonna happen😂
@@vireshgosain1627 theoretically the hardware is alredy present in all new phones which used the latest generation loud speakers... Hopefully it's just a matter of time others integrate it via software...
@@akshayviruss ah, wouldn't it be nice if developers watched these videos and thought "wow, I want this feature on our phone!"
I don't know why, but Razr looks more "foldable" to me than Z flip...
Yeah the flip Just looks like a galaxy A71
Walter Clements Didn’t you say “walter” in another video and get over 100 likes?
@@stacia6678 possibly, I think I've done that sometime but I'm not the only person named Walter Clements so maybe
@lasest2 yeah but it's soooo cool......😍
Nonsense
What this video really reminded me of is how much looks and nostalgia can factor in. Almost everything about the Z Flip is better than this phone, including (for me) the fact that it's a Samsung. It's cheaper, it's sturdier, it's available at all outside of Motorola's more limited capacity, and yet I can't stop thinking about having the Razr in my hand. How good this phone looks and that display really do matter, especially the developing foldable space. Sometimes you pay for design and genuinely feel good for it and happy every time you see and interact with that object and this phone is pushing so hard into that that it has me thinking a lot and that's rly cool. Just some stray thoughts I felt like sharing :x
you: 12 hours aren’t enough
my iphone: 3 hours take it or leave it
My Motorola G5 Plus: 2 hours take it or leave it
next gen iphone: less than your current model, we know your guna take it lmfao
My samsung s6 now: 1 millisecond take it or leave it
@@ezrilebeau8234 do you know what you're talking about? iPhones are getting better and better batteries

Always loved the multiple Star Trek reference, even more so now, since I have started off on DS9.
These little touches make this my favourite tech UA-cam channel 👌
Ive been a Star Trek fan for 28 years now after I discovered TNG. Naturally I then went to DS9, VOY, and ENT. I will say I laughed out loud when he said it.

Definitely a pucker moment that could make diamonds.
Honestly, I’d forgive all of its flaws if the battery life was good. That’s my only real gripe!
And it didn't tie you to a network that isn't 100% compatible with other international networks.
Its a businessesque device not for gamers.

Excited to see where folding phones go in the future.
The fact theyre also confirming Android 11 is also EXTREMELY nice. I really hope foldables start becoming a bit more commonplace

I've been using it for the last three weeks, and my dog is like usual.

Finally the future!!
One of the best storytelling 🙂
I’ll wait for more generations 🤔
I’m proud Motorola isn’t going anywhere! Glad they’re upping their game :)
5:19 I thought you were trying to ask him to smoke you up! I was like, "OK Mr. Mobile, we see you!" 🤣😉
It’s brilliant. Using the small screen might comes off as a niche feature but people will eventually dive into it. Nicely executed by motorola.
How does lock screen work!!!? My girlfriend becomes real detective while I’m knocked out to bed😜😜😜😜😜
haha that's what I was thinking
I love anything Motorola, Nextel and BlackBerry things. I still own a Motorola since Samsung let me down when it came to a lot of things. To this date I will always pick a Motorola over Samsung and Apple any day. Anyone else think he should do a whole video to do with Nextel, since he worked there and plus it has a very cool story from how was founded to when Sprint killed it.
How Motorola bruoght Android Wear back... on a foldable phone(?)
Ha! It absolutely reminds me of Android Wear v1.
Jouten Zennousha hahaha good one
I have to admit that mr mobile grows on me with every review. He is genuine, the content is interesting and I really love the part where a company isn’t allowed to approve the content of the review. Michael sounds like a nice guy too. Well done mate, you earned my subscription my comment and my thumbs up if that means anything
Are we going to ignore the fact that he called himself “slick”?
what about it?
he is hahaha
Nope, was about to mention it myself...
Yes
Thanks for showing me a Gboard feature I didn't know about at 5:20!
Have fun early adopters, we're all counting on you
I’ve got one ordered. A lot of people and reviewers have been knocking it for its camera, mid-tier specs, and etc. but I think I am going to keep it once it gets in. It’s available on a decent carrier in Canada and I managed to get the first gen Razr for only $652 with a free moto 360 third generation smart watch so I am not complaining. I have used both android and iOS in the past, but excited to try it out!
Ok but the fact that they still continuing the razr series 👏👏
So that hairstyle is on point, i think you should keep the long hair
Some 10 years ago I was on therapy as a kid, and my therapist once told me how his friend was working on making a glass that you can bend.
I always think back to that when I see these wacky folding phones.
1:54 2:50 This just cemented for me, why can't we have phones like this...as in this Small. No more large screens, no flipping out or open displays. Just a phone the size of your "Palm". :-\
Makes me reminisce of the days of yor, for Nextel. LoL
Likely because there are less than 5 people on all of Earth who would want that
Maybe not this small, but I wouldn't mind a 3.5 in phone with bezeless display. My iPhone 4s fits nicely in my palm.
There are many phones like that. People don't buy them so they stop getting made. Phones STARTED that way and evolved for a reason. No one wants to read or consume content on some baby screen.
I also want a phone like this. Just small and handy
Well the iphone se is small
00:21 Amazing footage of that display. Never seen any other youtuber show that.
1:42 "hello hELLO HELLAW"
Ahhhhhh. That amazing feeling of flipping the phone closed after the call 🥰 I miss those days!
Ooooh yes, this is great. I'm so into this phone, I've not wanted one this bad in years.
I do kind of REALLY want a nerdy lanyard hole. That phone is pricey AF, and I drop my phone on the regular. Not a good combination 😅
As long as it drops flat and not on the hinge area, it can withstand multiple "hits" - mine has!!!
4:57 a Jaime Rivera cameo always makes me smile, even if it's just his contact icon
"thanks slick!" Haha epic script as always 😂👌
For the challenges posed by foldables , the main comes from the always available real estate that is populated in our candy bar form factor devices. People have gotten used to it for the part of the decade and to make people get used to the fold is the main challenge. If they continue the upgrading of the experience as seen in your video and the edit comment of yours , the the foldable future will be a more amazing one . Hope for a more jam packed foldable 2021

Last time I was this early OG Razers were still around damn...😂😂😂
Motorola is like the Alfa Romeo of phones.
Flawed but when everything works, they're such a joy
This phone hasn’t been out for a year and it already feels like an outdated piece of potential that never lived up to it (due to Verizon, Pricing, Compromises)
Flippin' awesome to see some updates keen to adopt folding when it's had another couple generations
Android 11 is coming in a month and this Moto just got Android 10..... Wow
That would be the Beta. Officially it won't come out until later in the year.
Motorola has committed to Android 11 on this device as well. See pinned comment.

Motorola devices are getting android 10 before my LG. -_-
This is encouraging. Moto seems to do things quietly but it's good to see the support and that's a big improvement.
ALMOST FIRST, DAMN IT
Imagine this, a moto Razr without the folding display but with a folding form factor. In the sense a folding phone with two displays inside of it, the nostalgia of the yester years and the tech of the future in a sturdy reliable form 🤔.
Thank God phones are FUN again! And not just a giant black rectangle that at times most brands all just start to look similar.
I’m glad to know that foldable phones are coming back. Flip phones bring me so much great memories.
dude just found your channel and gotta say, top notch coverage on stuff.
Good to see Motorola is actually trying to be innovative in User experience aspect. Other android OEMs are just packing heavy specs. If Motorola can improve their OS update schedule, they will bring back their golden days.
Hey MrMobile! you released this video on my birthday! great timing
I must say that Razr still has its magic way back in the day when the OG Razr was announced.
Disclosures are worth gold. Thanks for being an stand up guy
Very cool! I still have a soft spot for Moto because of touchless control and the lock screen capabilities. Don't forget *chop chop* and my flashlight is on! I miss that future more than anything on my Samsung .
I love your videos including vintage phones. And of course old and new flip phones. Huge fan of that
I appreciate how you revisit these phones, long term use is important to average consumers.
Hey friends! If you're looking for my full review of the Razr from the official launch, you can find it here! ua-cam.com/video/zDYp1DK3chY/v-deo.html
I'm still surprised by how refreshingly good your reviews are compared to other youtubers with millions of subscribers.
I really like the support and updates for the RAZR. Getting so close to pulling the trigger on this one...
Totally into the foldables. I currently own a Note 9 (8 Gig/512 variant) and Note 10 Plus. I regret buying the Note 10 over the Fold. I am seriously considering the Fold 2 over the next Note. To me, the Fold represents the future of mobile computing. The Razr and the Flip are nice. Motorola should have considered a metal build like its original Razr. My wife and I had a silver Razrs with customized battery backs (remember when that was a thing?). I also had a black Razr with a glowing blue M. Those were the days!
I myself am the owner of the iPhone pro max, but these foldable phones, especially that Razr, are really starting to peak my interest. Especially the more updates that are being put out.
YES! Lovin' your InToTheFold series! More impressed with the Razr now, with this one, than I was with your early warnings! YES, I'm into Foldables, but ONLY You reviewing them. YES, I will buy, but ONLY when You say so + the price comes down + they do Original Silver (that should save me from the spend for a good while!) BUT, most important - I want to see how the fold holds up! As owner/lover of both the original & version 2 (V8?) I want one for more than just nostalgia. #StayHome #MrMobile - we're with you! 😉
Foldable phones have to go a longggg way to reach to a broader audience and it's refreshing to see different approaches made by manufacturers for making the experience better
I'm just happy to see experiments being done by everyone
As a ZFlip owner, I am envious of the larger outer screen. It looks way more useful than the small micro screen on the ZFlip.
I hope this kind of form factor catches on. The outer screen is more than enough for most functions you pull your phone out of your pocket on the go for - take or make a call, reply to a message, check your next turn if you’re using google maps for walking directions, play pause music.
with a massive internal screen to use when you want to sit down and watch videos, browse the Internet, take a proper look at a map, or anything you keep your phone out of your pocket more than half a minute for. All this with a small form factor and the outer screen isn’t weird-looking in the whole design (looking at you Samsung fold).
If I was rich this is the one I’d be getting
Yo I see the all the custom options you changed to get the shots! Thats why you earned every subscription!!!!!
Motorola’s definitely getting there with the new RAZR. It’s exciting seeing how quickly they’re adapting to this completely new smartphone segment. I still think the Fold is the better relative value, but I’m still more interested in the Moto. It’s been a slightly rocky start, but I hope the next generation will bring much needed camera, battery and SoC upgrades to compete better at its price. Otherwise I think they’re really on to something here, hopefully they’re on track for a big smartphone comeback! Awesome video, as always!
Speech-to-text would be a really useful function for when the phone is closed.
I really enjoy your presentation style! Much better than some other Tech UA-camrs. (Jaime) Thanks for the interesting content!
No way to having the phone, but the voice attracting me the most to watch this video :3
How does this guy not have a million subs but JON RETTINGER does?
I am very in the mood for a phone change. Between the new flip technology making rapid improvements and the keypads coming back I'm eager to see what will be out by the fall when I'm ready to buy. I wouldn't mind seeing a Sidekick come back of some kind!
This is pretty damn cool!
Once the price comes down a little, I will definitively buy one. I am already on the edge of moving from an iPhone XR to a Razer Phone 2 - and in the future, I would love to put my hands on a modern phone like the Razr Fold =)
Even with the problems with the screen, is cool to see phones getting personality again, like this Razr. I love the actual technology, I'm still surprised with what my old and simple Moto G5s Plus can do nowadays (any smartphone today is literally a computer on your pocket), and is awesome to take almost professional photography with S10+, iPhone 11, console quality games running smooth... But they are not yet that appealing in therms of creativity, you know? I miss the XpressMusic line from Nokia, or Sony Ericsson Walkman, Cybershot, N Series, Sidekicks and Rarz of course (V3, V3xx, V3i, V8)... I think we need more specific designs to bring back the social element of own a smartphone. Remember when we compared our phones with friends? Showing the different designs, colours and features, was like we had a phone customized for us, integrated with our lifestyle, more precious to keep. If you go now to a shop, you'll see a bunch of vertical black glass monolith things, and have to try one by one or read specs to know what you're buying, and after 1 year we feel this need to replace again.
I don't know about you guys, but I'm tired for being through more than 10 years seeing only vertical reflective things with tech inside everywhere kkkkk
Maybe phones like Rog Phone II, Xiaomi Black Shark, Razer Phone are cool for gamers, but phones like Marshall London Phone or Panasonix Lumix CM1 are really creative on their designs and features. Imagine a new version of Nokia E7, thinner with all this tech, running android and stuff...
I love these foldable phones. Finally smartphones aren't just rectangle.
I am a motorola fan i have used moto e2 a budget phone and enjoyed using the moto display which made me switch to moto g4 then moto one vision just because of that one software well implemented love the moto display and using moto vision already on Android 10 since 3 month.
