Let's try this again.... new Postmodern Jukebox video!! Kate Davis is LITERALLY All About That Bass- get to know her, because she's going to be a star. iTunes link: msclvr.co/F8WmMC
I'm surprised that nobody has commented on how many different tones and sounds that drummer gets out of a bass drum, snare, hi-hat, and crash/ride. Super simple set-up, tons of tones and sounds and all perfect for that song. Great drumming. A true case of less is really more. His technique is perfect for this song.
Dave Tedeschi the drummer did his homework and worked up a period-correct set style, 1930s-40s. Scott Bradlee's stride piano fills between vocals would've been brass, trombone and trumpet, or solo trumpet with a hat or mute to give that a "talking" counterpoint to Kate's gorgeous voice. Amazing work. Scott Bradlee's genius piano playing, arrangements, and bandleader work pays off with this postmodern fusion.
Yep, she's got a real nice voice, but at times she seemed a bit undermiked. Surprise they didn't fix that in post. And she's no slouch on that bass, either.
The fact that she not only has a great voice, but is PLAYING THE UPRIGHT BASS at that same time is absolutely incredible. Kate Davis makes arguably one of the best Postmodern Jukebox singers yet.
I watch this every now and then. Always amazed at Kate Davis' strong, seductive, era-correct voice. It's really the best rendition of this song that I have ever heard.
The girl who is playing the bass has an incredibly gorgeous voice. It reminds me of some 50's darling and it's so silky, smooth and has a beautiful tone and just wow 😍
Love this. Her voice is gorgeous, her interpretation is so natural, and her bass playing is solid. And the other musicians are of course so solid that I almost forgot to mention them! This is my favorite cover of the song...favorite version altogether.
Far and away the best version of this song ever. I came across it on spotify but it didn't say who was singing it. I came across this searching for who sang this version. Kate Davis, wow. Never heard of her before but she has an amazing voice.
I still think that the idea of having the singer play the bass while singing this song is hilarious, but even with this huge visual pun hanging out, they nail it. I love everything about this video, but especially the way Kate Davis approached the vocals. It just works so well. I listen to this song at least once a week.
She could be from the 50’s. She absolutely shreds the solo. If everyone watched this once a year, we wouldn’t be so pissed at each other. Crazy talent.
Actually it was a very minor string mistake almost unnoticeable by viewers; she realised but carried it off delightfully with charming style and aplomb.
Every once in a while, in this sometimes jaded world, you happen upon something that makes you honestly happy. This video is one of those, well done, PMJ and all involved..... and Kate Davis, what more can one say but, WoW
I come back and watch this video about once a week, and share it with friends at least as much. This is just so utterly... perfect... in every single regard. It really shows what actual *musicians* can do with any material. Kate Davis is just astonishing. And with Postmodern Jukebox, Scott Bradlee has created the most interesting vehicle for new talent, bar none. The Voice? America's Got Talent?!? Psh. Postmodern Jukebox has *actual* talent, and provides the perfect platform for artists we simply wouldn't see anywhere else in media. Thank you Scott and Postmodern Jukebox! Can't wait to see Kate when she comes to Seattle.
Xaru Ruru I didn't say any of the things you accuse me of. I respect the musicians in the video by commenting on their skill and you read this as ... what? ... some sort of hipster tirade against the music industry? Wow... what a sad little troll you are.
The best Postmodern Jukebox cover of all, largely due to Kate Davis, whose presence, voice and playing all have superstar quality. This song lends itself incredibly well to the PJ treatment, too. All of the music on this channel is amazing but this one is the jewel in the crown. :)
I just can't stop watching this. There must be other videos worth watching out there... but nope, just keep coming back to this one. She just nails it so perfectly.
Hands down . . . best version in the history of the world ! Absolutely love the depth and strength of Kate's voice and to perform that well while playing the Bass too !
AMAZING COVER of this tune - best I've ever heard. The arrangement + movement to midcentury time period is just perfect. Postmodern Jukebox nails it again and again. .
They all (she, Scott and the drummer) play wonderfully with that not very sophisticated song (to be very forgiving) and this becomes a real art in itself. Totally enjoyable.
I love this version so much. My wife sings it while I play bass. I think it’s the only song we can pull off just the two of us, plus our son the drummer when an 18 yr old is allowed in. I’ve listened to other stuff she’s done. She’s great multi-instrumentalist. I gotta say as a bass player, I love her on the upright bass best. Look forward to hearing more of her in the future.
Her voice is gold, the arrangement is sooo pleasing to hears. At start I though it was just same as the original songs but it's on a different level. 👍👍👍 Thanks Taehyung-ah for posting about this... there's a lot of great cover song here
The 3K of people that decided to dislike this video clearly have no taste in music. I think your version is awesome and better than the original. Keep up the good work!
I dug this song in its original arrangement, unlike many of the songs Scott Bradley and company cover. This arrangement had all the greatness that the Postmodern Jukebox brings, without losing the fun of original. It almost made me feel as if the song were dusted off by Meghan Trainor from earlier era, versus newly covered by the Postmodern Jukebox. Another good one!
Scott, I just keep coming back to hear this again and again because it so damn good. Please do something else with Kate. Her magic mixes very nicely with yours. Maybe some vintage classic, like Fever or bring in some folks to sing backup and do something with lots of harmonies.
Postmodern Jukebox! :D We watched some of them in Band class last week! Much better than the original versions. -Notices drumset player in back more than bass player-
Following PMJ through times I came to conclusion that Scott Bradlee with team are jeweliers on their own. They are selecting artists and makes the best of them, like carving jewels from stone. Composition, arrangement, sound scene all is perfect. If you look at Cate Davis or others performing on their own, it is never at such heights as with PMJ.
One of my fellow DJs posted the UA-cam link on a DJ chat forum which in turn, led me here to find out more. I started watching saying, nice... a cute chick with a bass. I immediately noticed that the girl in the video had excellent finger technique. How do I know that? I have played electric bass for many years and took up double bass a few years ago. While I do NOT play the double bass as well as Kate, I did search out a classically trained bassist to teach me proper finger technique. Back to the video… I loved the timbre of girl’s voice so I kept listening... When she ‘opened up’ her voice at 1:35 and I was like, HUH? Then there was that incredible rhythmic delivery of the line at 2:00 and that TONE! So I kept watching and can assure you that I was NOT expecting what happened at 2:22… Her busting out into that solo with those fast runs left me speechless… Why can’t I do that? I know, I have to practice more… LOL! As for her singing and playing at the same time, unless you play bass and have tried singing at the same time, I don’t think it’s possible to understand how hard it is to do. I remember the first time I tried to do that; brutal… strumming a guitar while singing is MUCH easier, trust me. Fast forward… My full time gig is now deejaying, mostly weddings and private events. I am going to purchase some of your tunes and use them at my wedding events during cocktails / dinner. I know people will ‘dig it’. Much respect young lady and if you ever come out to Vancouver, BC, consider me there. Well done! PS: The original first line of this reply was, ‘Are you kidding me? I freakin' LOVE this!’ PPS: Keep it up and chase down that dream! Life is too short…
9 Years later and I'm still coming back for this amazing rendition.
Same
I still can't conceive this is less popular than the European Tour Version of PMJ.
@@jsbrookk I feel the same way...her voice is so authentic to the sound of the old days
Same here. I wish there was a LOVE button.
I wonder if she needs any roadies?? cheap:)
Let's try this again.... new Postmodern Jukebox video!! Kate Davis is LITERALLY All About That Bass- get to know her, because she's going to be a star.

Brilliant as always.
How funny would it be if your next song was Anaconda? I bet it would be hard turning a song like that into appreciative music.
I'm in love.
Thought you got evicted from being too 'noisy'?
Fantastic *****
you definitely know how to find the talent out there. everyone you've enlisted is fantastic

He has the spirit of Dave Tough.
That's exactly what I came to read comments for.
I absolutely couldn't take my eyes off him. He's fabulous!
You guys made my day!
7 years later I still fall in love with her every time I watch this.
Such talent! 😍

So beautiful! Kate Davis is strong and vulnerable, so transparent. Can see a little shy under her brave. Her delight shines.
Absolutely agreed! In fact, when I think of Postmodern Jukebox, this is the performance that I think of.
An upright bass has a beautiful swing that no electric bass has
@@calypsoraz4318 the rendition with the 3 ladies is good, too. ua-cam.com/video/aLnZ1NQm2uk/v-deo.html
and she brings so much character, working the lyrics so damn well, and being so cute puppies are sending each other this video
Kate Davis is a badass from start to finish. Slays it all.
This is one of the covers that turned me on to PMJ 10 years ago. Keep up the great work.
Happy 10 years, glad to have you on this journey with us
Amazing how she sings so well and that is not adversely affected by her amazing upright bass playing.
Plays the bass, beautiful voice, stunning smile...wow!

Same!
Agreed
Kate Davis is awesome.
Yep, ditto - and yep, she is.
And she is kickin it on that bass.
Best rendition of that song absolutely no contest
You know you are doing something right when i prefer listening to the Postmodern Jukebox's renditions over the originals.
Which is most of them...
I agree
I love their cover of Royals by Lorde
1st time i listened to all this mainstream song because of their covers
their wiggle one is so good!
The girl who is playing the bass has an incredibly gorgeous voice. It reminds me of some 50's darling and it's so silky, smooth and has a beautiful tone and just wow 😍
@Joe Bloggs Pretty sure that was just Scott's apartment at the time. They were still struggling musicians back then.
2024 Here for this. Bring real music back
It's almost 2019, and I'm still coming back to listen to this.
So, am I. She is the real deal. So much talent
I confess too...
2020
Mmm... It's march 2020 and and a lot of people is in their home because of the Corona Virus and I'm still coming back to hear that ángel voice....
Ay can we bring it back?
daaaaamnnnn! this girl is so cute that puppies send each other videos of her!
Magnus Edvarsson that was hilariously wholesome.
Wholesome indeed. You know, I actually haven't seen a woman play upright bass before.. like, ever. Well, besides myself.
Ha ha ha 😂
more like elephants because its scientifically proven that elephants' brain react to us just like how we react to puppies

She's doing great playing double bass and singing at the same time is so hard
I love that spot where she finishes her solo and then touches her chin, like she's so pleased with how it worked out.
The simplicity of this performance renders it perfect!
Because it's all about the SPACE.
She could be from the 50’s. She absolutely shreds the solo. If everyone watched this once a year, we wouldn’t be so pissed at each other. Crazy talent.
I love her voice!
If I'm not mistaken it's the same room where they shot Royals with the sad clown.
Rick Turner they shoot most of their videos in Scott's house.
I had no idea until this post.
i love all about her bass too
***** Is it me or does her voice sound a bit like Meghan's?
I love her expression at 2:48 cause she knows she freakin nailed it!!!
Agreed and no easy feat at that!
Yep and then relaxes into her singing- her joy is awesome to see.
You can tell that’s her favorite part
Actually it was a very minor string mistake almost unnoticeable by viewers; she realised but carried it off delightfully with charming style and aplomb.
She looks like she is having so much fun doing this
The Drummer was it (Hitchcock)
Hands down my favourite version of this song … love this woman!
I love this version. Been listening to this since it got first uploaded.
Trap drums, baby grand, upright bass and more talent than can possibly be contained in a single video. My brain is clipping.
It's amazing how good an otherwise terrible song can sound in the hands of truly talented musicians. Great job by all 3 of them.
That voice though! Feels so nostalgic and old school 1950s. Absolutley love this.
Every once in a while, in this sometimes jaded world, you happen upon something that makes you honestly happy. This video is one of those, well done, PMJ and all involved..... and Kate Davis, what more can one say but, WoW

Her voice is enchanting...this could have been a 40's song I would have had no idea!!
She has such a 'christmassy' voice. She'd be fantastic singing any kind of Christmas song! Great voice!

Wow, *this* is the best thing on the internet! The PMJ big band version a close second. Sublime!
This is by far the best rendition of the song. Kate Davis not only has the sound but that unique look.
Beautiful!
It has withstood the test of time.
Elegance. Yes. I forgot. True elegance and sophistication.
PMJ has done this song twice but this is the better version IMO

Even though the other cover has Haley, Morgan and Ariana, I have to agree.. she is simply adorable!!!

She was playing the hell out that bass. 👍
Was showing my 5 year old what an upright base, and jazz is. Was happy to find this, love the double meaning.
I'm still coming back to this version - it has so much groove and good feeling!
the description and the song killed me
What artistry! Who doesn't like this?! Just smooth perfection, in my opinion.
Beautiful young lady who is literally all about the bass. Great job as usual featuring a talented and gorgeous singer.
aaaw shes so cute with bass and she sing so good
Still the very best version of this song, EVER!!!
Just amazing.
Love this so much! Her voice is excellent!

Agreed. I largely despise the original, but this cover is the catchiest, most listenable thing I've heard in a long time. Really, really really good.
Por favor traer mas temas con Kate. Esta interpretación es mejor que la original
Wickedly done mame… well done I mean!
Good arraignment.
What a voice! I wish the bass was louder and the drum less loud, but overall bravo! My favorite since No Diggity
I actually really liked the balance, but I will agree that at times the Piano and the drums sounded harsh and overbearing against my ears.
Too much drum for sure.
Have you tried it with headphones? the bass should be clearer :)
***** I still agree that the Piano and the drum are too loud; then again, those aren't exactly the microphones I would use either XD
Es de lo mejor que he visto en todo internet. No paro de repetirlo una y otra vez más.
1:34 there you go girl!!! :) Nailed it!
Kinda gave me goosebumps
+blueckaym But she lies! She says "no I'm just playing" but she's not just playing, she's singing too!
I love the way you remastered the song! The singing is great as well! I like the double bass but I want to try plaing this song on my cello X3
This is so cool! I wish I could play bass like that... Kate Davis has probably been playing for years, though. I aspire to this, someday.
