- Henry Mancini's epic composition adapted (by myself) for a double bass quintet. Watch on my channel many top quality videos with classical double bass 🤗 and please subscribe to not miss anything.
Good work by my talented students from the generations 2017 until 2018
It was very funny to record the quintets in the forest 😂
Recorded with a single pair of Schoeps MK2S with added just a bit of digital reverb in PP.
Performers (from left to right):
Oskari Hänninen, Božo Paradžik (myself), Madlaina Küng, Cecilia Perfetti and Marko Hristoskov
Here is the epic original TV recording with the composer hinself playing piano and his musicians engaged for the recording of the original soundtrack:

Imagine stumbling upon 5 basses in the woods playing Pink Panther
I’d think I was about to die
The thing is what if this was in a horror movie?- Like, imagine your car breaks down so you have to walk through the woods but you witness those 5 basses playing Pink Panther so you and the crazy killer out in the woods, play the pink panther game just tip-toe away as quick as possible.
And then Shia Labeouf shows up...
I would love to be lost
Scene: The Woods.
You are unaware that you are being stalked by a bear. "The Pink Panther" arranged and performed for five Double Basses plays in the background.
Enter clearing (stage left) where the five piece Double Bass ensemble are playing "the Pink Panther".
Stop. Look confused. Break the fourth wall by looking at the camera and shrugging.
Exit clearing. (state right)
Sounds of bear attacking quintet behind you.
Imagine sneaking down a forest trail as quietly as possible so as not to disturb a sleeping bear... and then a double bass quintet starts playing this theme.
😂😂😂 yes, until the end of the third piece (not uploaded yet) there was a little group of people behind us listening 😂😂😂
You want to be loud as too not surprise the bears tho.
@@rorolonglegs4594 😂😂😂
George Blue I’d honestly start panicking and have an existential crisis wondering if my whole life has been a TV show this whole time.
Sad that Peter Sellers is not here to peer around some tree trunk... before enquiring about the cellos...
Once in a while, the world throws up a total gem. This is one of those times. Outstanding.
That was one of the most enjoyable renditions of the Pink Panther melody I have ever heard. Thank you.
Thank you so much 🙏 my pleasure
Love a double bass so this is five times better
I always loved this theme song,
Great performance !!!!! Bravo !!!😘
The wildest thing out of all of this is that at some parts it almost sounded like a saxophone the same way it is in the original
Thank you 😍🙏 I gave my best to do so
The Original was made with trumpet. Not saxophone.
Doby Well of course that changes EVERYTHING.
Doby Well it’s actually saxophone and trumpet, they both have parts
I thought so too, amazing 🎶
double bass quintet?! that's like... 10 bass!
😂💪💥
HA! I didn't think of that. Good one!!
Underrated coment.
I guess it is all about the bass.
Good one
It shows what an incredible talent Henry Mancini was. The delivery, the pacing, the notes all are genius.
👏👏👏
Its amazing how much tapping the base adds to the music
Yes, very good idea!
And anywhere else you like.
i love the texture in the sound of having several basses bow while others pluck. incredibly dynamic and really proves the versatility of the bass!
Exactly
without sax, it loses 99% of it's beauty
@@kinuux Na.
@@kinuux That's not the point.
You can make music with everything. Not with just one ore two instruments.
I hope the girl doing acoustics with her hands realizes that her contribution to the piece was not unimportant
She also played the strings ,just saying.
I liked her the best. She was multitasking her socks off.
The most vital part; even a bass band needs a bass line to follow.
They ALL rocked !
Only you thought about it.
I never imagined an all bass instrumental could sound so good.
I've loved the Pink Panther theme since I was a kid. You all did a great job with it.
They need to have the Pink Panthers head coming out from behind different trees in the background.
I even have such carnival costume. It's too late now, I didn't think on that when I should 😂😂😂
@@bozoparadzikcom Redo it. We will be so forever grateful.
So true omG 🙈😹😂😂😂
Imagine that!!!
Please tell me he’d also say “thiiiink pink” like in the 1993 pink panther show?
Not sure why this came up in my feed today....but I am absolutely blown away. I could never have imagined that theme song realized so beautifully by five basses. Wow.
Thank you very much, please feel free to check some more videos on my channel, I have plenty nice videos. Cheers 🤗
YT finally did something good.
Ditto, not sure why it came in my feed today, seems youtube recommend it again.
It's a beautiful rendition though, and i enjoyed it. But i have to ask, why in the woods? lol
@@dalfifran7572 good question 😅 because no hall was available... and the weather was nice 🤣 and everyone loves the result
Same thing happened to me! Plus I've never heard the full theme before! Just the first 45 seconds or so!
(Edit): The 5 of them pulling the bows across the strings at the end got me good!
Henry would be delighted.
0:20 that was smoooooothhh
I played one of those beasts professionally for 38 years. It's not easy to do melody in the high register like that. Had to retire from it due to health issues. These young people are inspiring!
Cool comment. Thnx man. I hope you’re feeling better.
Health issues! That would be the Organ recital! I more than understand that. I appreciate your comment. A lovely and complicated piece. So much music that a lot goes by us. Be well!
Really amazing performance. As a visual artist your music is inspiring.
I play it right now, and I hope I can play for as long as you, if not longer ❤️
Could you transition to electric bass? Fretless is kind of similar...

omg, twosetters everywhere LOOOL
Incredible!! Thank you for uploading this master piece. The way you managed to " translate" this great and well known theme using 5 Double Basses, is testament to your talent, and brilliant creative music visionary 🎉
Bravo 👏👏👏
From a retired double bass player....THAT WAS FANTASTIC......Great job
Thanks 🤗
I came for the novelty of a Double Bass quintet, but I stayed for some remarkable execution.
Who knew this song could be done so well by strings??? Marvelous!
A magnificent tune interpreted with double basses and out in nature, it gives the melody the realistic meaning of the Pink Panther theme. The double bass quintet gives a radiant sparkle of an unexpected surprise in the woods. The acoustic pluck gives resonance to the melody. The string players have a great synchronised exchange of communication. KUDOS to the musicians and the composer!
As a double bassist and pink panther fan, this is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard
I play a fender jazz and it's the most beautiful thing I've ever heard as well
🎼That’s my instrument too! ❤️
I hear the music but I don’t see him, he’s quite a sneaky bastard I’ll tell you that. ☝️👍
I have a kitty that stalks to this music.
@ivannthegreat1- That was a brilliant response! LOL :-)
@@virginiaryno2631 love it!
Where???
What if a 5 year old saw the B Word and asked his mom what it meant 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I don't play an instrument, but I remember Peter Sellars as "the Pink Panther", so this talented group brought back some good memories. Thank you!
As a producer that usually works with synths and digital instruments, I'm overwhelmed by unrivaled power and nuance in acoustic instruments. The rich warm sounds are a testament to ur skills as musicians and the skills of your sound engineer
Thanks a lot 🤗 it is recorded just with one pair of top-class omnidirectional condenser mics and a bit of hall reverb added
As a young double bass player who is currently learning, this brings me much happiness
The way they hold their bows scares me tho because I learned the French way lol
Brilliant stuff!
Great! I'm just an admirer of folks like YOU who CAN play an instrument. I use a big metal spoon to whapp onto the bottom of my big spaghetti pot [I have five kids & need giant pots]. The Kids think I'm the Mistress of BangBang! Thanks for playing one of my most favorite music pieces!
Awesome! The Panthers in the forest would have been having a nice time! That was outstanding. Bravo!
That was cool how the bassists playing the melody replicated the saxophone sound.
I’m impressed. All 5 Basses where in tune
Fortunatelly 🙌 only one out of tune would ruin everything 😫
@@bozoparadzikcom all 5 have perfect intonation placement you mean? Brilliant players.
Why does the location matter!?!?
@@markw3598
Because if they are not in the same neck of the woods, they couldn't be heard as a unit and would be difficult to keep in time.
Bass players are always in tune and have perfect intonation
I assumed this would just be some uninspired cover of a tired old tune, but I was surprised how well this turned out. Dynamics, feel, taste. It came out great.
How do you taste music?? Tf?
Taste - as in what type of music they like.
@@joesephjoestar4449 - "Taste" in music means the ability to discern between what sounds good and what doesn't, specifically in reference to dynamics, arrangement and harmonic choices. For instance, a musician with poor taste would probably try to add loud distorted guitar to a Sunday afternoon cafe trio.
This group, TASTEFULLY incorporated 5 double basses and created beautiful music instead of a potential hot mess.
Their tune too!
SAME BRO THIS PERFORMANCE IS FIRE DUDE
Beautifully done ✔️
What impressed me the most was they weren’t tapping the beat with their feet. I was in band for many years and in most pieces, I still have tap my foot to the beat to not go offbeat. Would have probably been caught on the mics if they had, but still very impressed. Plus all sound coming only from the cello was awesome to “see”. Bravo. Encore for a pretty pink kitty. 🎻🎻🩷🩷
I'm certain Henry Mancini would enjoy this if he were alive today. I enjoyed it.
Thank you so much for your nice words. That inspires me. Your comment reminded me to add the link of the original recording to the video description: ua-cam.com/video/jBupII3LH_Q/v-deo.html
@@bozoparadzikcom Yes. Mr. Mancini came back to his alma mater and offered a weeklong workshop at the music school each year. This would have warmed his heart tremendously as he loved to see the students innovate with his music. I saw this four years 1975 to 1979.
Did I see pink panther himself hiding behind the trees , admiring the score.
nitin b yes top right
@joe jitsu thank you for replenishing the stock of retarded comments.
I saw him too!!
Messing with the Inspector no doubt.
Fajnie sie bawicie, druzyna bliskich sobie ludzi, w naturze, zajmująca się muzyką. 🌹Swiat potrafi byc piekny dziękuję 🌹
Też dziękuję bardzo
Awesome.I was waiting for Clouseau to chase the Pink panther across the screen.
Sorry, I have no deep, musically well-educated comment to offer, just... wow, that was awesome! This plain "I just love music" person appreciated that so much! Thank you for sharing your talents!
Yes, i believe most folks, musically acquainted or not, can recognize xlnt execution. Kudos!!
What a graceful and lovely comment.
Was watching this when my alarm clock went off. The beeps were exactly in time and fell on syncopated beats. 😎
😂💪
The alarm does not go off. It goes on. A Russian immigrant friend I had in Houston informed me of that many years ago. He also informed me that we Americans are crazy, too, for saying the bomb goes off; because it definitely goes ON!
@@notmyworld44
The phrase "alarm goes/going off" means that something has tripped its alert mechanism, which can be a sound, flashing lights, or something else. When I was a child, this phrase confused me whenever I saw it in a textbook. It made more sense to say "the alarm is turning on" instead of "going off", but that's one the quirks of the English language.
@@urbananalrapist oh yes
LewisAlcindor and what’s also interesting is that going off, in British parlance, means to become rotten, as it relates to food
I wish multiple thumbs-up were possible! 👍👍
I closed my eyes and transported myself to my childhood!
great job. i always loved this song. mancini doesn't get enough credit these days for his movie and tv scores. this might sound odd but i particularly liked the player using her bass to provide percussion. thanks for the video.
Given the song and the setting, I couldn't help but picture Clouseau bumbling around out in the woods while they were playing.
And stumbling on one of the bases...
@@Evan490BC oh so there was a *diamond* there too!
@@KC9UDX Si! ... I mean Oui!
The most entertaining performance by double basses I've ever witnessed. Also the first performance I've seen by double basses only.
😂
😂👌😹👌
Bears and moose ran away from the forest. Now there are serious musicians in the forest. You play great.
PERFECTIONS . . . Pink Panther is around . . .
this is the quality youtube content i live for
As a 55 year vet of Bass this was nothing short of brilliant !! - I never see anything this cool in the woods :)
Wonderful!!!!!! Ol Henry would be proud.
Everyone should play pink panther every once and a while, it's just fun.
It’s not even funny how beautiful this rendering is.
I picked up bass last year and I felt as if there was nothing else I can do that would just be a bassist ,then I saw this and it gave me a different perspective that my instrument isn’t that bad
Of course the bass isn't bad 😁 just stay away from weak pieces, there are so many 😨
I’m a violist...
not only is it not that bad......it's essential.
i'm also a fellow bass player(electric).
you might wanna look up victor wooten, jaco pastorius, john myung, and scott's bass lessons.
all of them are awesome.
Sometimes we just need to branch out. Try some other instruments, see how music is all connected in some way. Then you can find whats right for you or youll find a new love for your original instrument. :)
Any instrument can be fantastic. It's a matter of perspective and applying yourself. I have no doubt you can achieve greatness.
Just look at those young people playing those ancient instruments! That makes me feel great when i see something like that. Bravo!
This is amazing. As a string player, i understand how difficult this is, especially that high shifting. Also, im happy to see all basses doing this, as bass is almost as underated/underestimated as the viola. Almost.
Viola is indeed and underestimated.
Was recommended by UA-cam so I clicked. I wasn't expecting such an unusual, impeccably-executed musical treat! Thanks!
Mr. Mancini is smiling. Talking tonewoods. Magnificent. Bravo. Thank you.
Mancini would have just adored this.
Such a lovely thought... I hope so
We upped our level of cool just by listening to this piece.
BASSically that was great playing of one of the coolest songs ever!
The Pink Panther theme has _always_ been a favorite of mine. You all played it beautifully. Henry would be proud. Cheers! 🍻
Прекрасное исполнение! Браво!
As a not-that-great violinist I'm impressed by the tone and articulation, also how well you managed to meld the performance, I know from experience how difficult that is!
Да, ансамбль в этом видео просто феноменальный. Они даже делают вибрацию левой рукой в одно и то же время! 😮😊❤🎉
First thought: What a silly idea.
Upon listening: What amazing talent and amusing idea.
Lesson learned: Be more open-minded.
Thank you 😇👍 yes, it was a challenge to arrange it well
@@bozoparadzikcom Do you have the arrangement? I'd be interested in a copy
@@lesliebaker unfortunately, I didn't buy the licence for the arrangement 😥 I cannot share or sell it
this sounds so much less muddy than I expected, even without playing crazy high on (or off ;) the fingerboard.
Really cool
Это улёт! Такого исполнения я даже представить не мог!!!
Beautiful. The notorious pink Litton.
This was just amazing. I never imagined that the Pink Panther theme could be played on just a double bass, much less five of them.😮
I love your performances and are an inspiration to all double bass players
a pink panther in the woods: wonderful!
Thank you 🤗
@@bozoparadzikcom you're welcome! I would like to send to you JImbo's Lullaby DEbussy for 4 basses!
Maravilloso grupo de cinco.felicitaciones.Gracias.
Henry would have approved. Nicely done.
I had no idea it was possible to even do that. I heard the sax, bone, trumpet and sousa (which I had seven years experience in the last two), and percussion. I believe I could listen to this forever. Thank you.
Must of played this video a thousand times! Great job!
Utterly, irrevocably, and superbly brilliant. Many, many thanks.
Thank you 😊 our pleasure
As someone with zero training in any music or instruments this blows my mind! It’s sorcery to me. How amazing.
I can't remember what the Pink Panther was about, but that theme music has a life of its own, and you did right by it
About an inept Inspector Clouseau! Played by Peter Sellers ... it was a bit of a spoof of the highly popular and successful James Bond movies from the early 60s
If you only watch one, it has to be the Return of the Pink Panther! I never laughed so hard in my life! I thought I would die laughing during the nitrous oxide routine! Pure genius!
I have never heard anything like it. It is so new to me I never thought as this big bass as being able to do anything. This was beyond brilliant.
Thank you very much 🥰🙏 please check also other videos on my channel, I hope you will discover many more beautiful things
Is it just me, this music Carries my mind back years and years. I am child again, back before the Cartoons died, mesmerized by the Pinkpanthers enjoyable antics.
FYI, my two-year-old daughter is literally addicted to the Pink Panther. If we let her, she would watch for hours in end.
And the unforgettable Inspector Clouseau and his assistant Cato.
😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤪
Cartoons died and simply resurrected as anime.
I appreciate the fact that one woman was using it as a percussion instrument.
This is a dangerous video. It is so easy to get "stuck on" the Pink Panther Theme. If you're not careful, you'll keep humming this for weeks.
Outstanding- I can almost see the Panther sewing his coat back on!!!
For anyone wanting to play the upright bass. Go for it! most basses don't get much recognition so the more people play the more people can see how wonderful the bass really is.
💜 now I will have this tune rattling through my mind for at least a week. 💜
It's called an ear worm 😅
I’ve been a Pink Panther fan since childhood and to hear you guys play so brilliantly in the woods on double basses was absolutely amazing! Thank you so much ❤🇬🇧
LOVE the crazy eye expressions from the woman second to right!
Congratulations ❤fabulous sound and very creative
Thank you so much
As a German bower (bow-er?), I'm thrilled to see the 4:1 ratio of German to French bowers.
But honestly, regardless of bowing preference, y'all are awesome and have inspired me to get back at it with my big boi!
Here in America we just call 'em bassists. It's interesting to see regional variety in English.
@@mattfromowitz5690
i think the original poster meant the way they grip the bow.
@@sabin97 Oh shoot, sorry about that. Trumpet player here lol
Ok, so let us in on the difference.
@@thedolphin5428 At 2:03, all five of them are bowing, and you can see that the woman in the white shirt on the right is holding her bow differently from the others. She's holding hers the same way you'd hold a violin or cello bow, over the top, parallel to the bow. That's the French grip. The others are holding their bows from underneath, perpendicular to the bow. That's the German grip. Each grip has its pros and cons.
The double bass is one of the most underrated instruments. It may not stand out, but it's missed when it's not there.
I wish more younger students were exposed to more this type of thing. Not just hearing music, but seeing a person, or a group make it. A lot of talent out there that's never been tapped because of limited or non-existent opportunities.
Not only was this fun, but recorded in natural ♮ settings.
UA-cam algorithm you mighty beast! Thank you again!
Splendid perfection! (Those glissandi - in perfect syncronisation - were spine-tingling!) Peter Sellers, Henry Mancini and Charles Mingus) would be thrilled to hear this. (I was!)
I hope to hear more from this group!
This is beautiful and so clean. The phrasing and tone are impressive.
I've broke this out as a solo on bass here and there. But, no amount of double stops could do what the five of you just pulled off. Amazing! Bravo!
Thank you! 🤗
Yes! This is beautiful. Whoever came up with this idea is great! I love this song and I love the bass! The last note slide was funny! There should be more of these types of collaborations!
Since when does the woods have this good sound quality?! Also, simply fantastic rendition!!!
Acoustic in the woods is always great 🤩
@bozoparadzikcom Apparently so! Again, amazing rendition! Now if only we could get a fully brass or woodwind or all strings versions!
I am a jazz pianist and it is so hard to find a bass player, let alone a good one. I would love to kidnap the whole group for some hell-bending jam sessions. Thanks for posting. Enjoyed it completely!
Do it!!!!
