Thanks so much for sharing this presentation. I was a student at Lipscomb in the early 1980s and was asking many of the same questions that Edward Fudge answers so thoroughly. I’m so glad to know that Lipscomb was willing to break outside the mold of the traditionalist view on many topics. I was also influenced by the writing of and personal conversations with Rubel Shelley. I have changed many of my understandings over the years and now work in full time ministry in an interdenominational addiction recovery program in which I have the opportunity to have great conversations with men and women searching for the life God has for them.
I would not be where I am today without good Godly men such as Edward Fudge who has been an encouragement to me on my journey.

Amen. Thanks for the ministry of Edward. He was key in helping me come to these truths years ago. The ECT doctrine is not only untrue, it slanders the only true and loving God.

It astounds me how thoroughly this man makes use of the Bible.
It is similarly astounding how little others do.
The Bible, stripped of our thousands of years of bickering and philosophy we have piled on top of it, tells a very different story from the one we are all repeating to each other.
If His followers really did love each other, then they would know Jesus is the Christ, and they would know that God sent Him. And if we want them to know, our first tasks are to love God and love other believers well. Then, as that is a supernaturally attractive dynamic, people lean in and ask questions as the Spirit draws them, and we can be ready with an answer for the hope that is in us.
Brother Fudge has a beautiful way of articulating this. Glad we will be celebrating God's victory together in the New Earth!

Man i gotta come back and listen again. I wish there was more preaching like this where Jesus is. I wish i could be more like Edward fudge. And im so sick people fighting over theology while acting like self righteous weasels. If we could only have Jesus than somehow everything might be ok.

Yes I was so happy to be able to capture this. Very few come to understand Christianity as well as did Edward. He was a friend but more than a friend. He was like an elder brother who always thought of me with higher regard than deserved. Hopefully it will not long till we will again be united. Until then I have a archive of him teaching.

this is how I describe my and Edward's relationship. under About on my channel
Edward Fudge was a true elder brother. Like an elder brother he was much superior in many ways. Yet in his generosity, he treated me as an equal. A truly spiritual brother was he. I desire to be like him.

I love his message but very new to it and dont have much context. So i have a question. At 33:22 when he mentions something never being true in the first place, does he mean the bible or the idea that the Holy Spirit only works through the bible? Thanks.
Edit: another question, at 37:45 he talks about AD70 and hyper people and that he doesn't agree with it. Can u explain what he's referring too?
Another edit: at 40:05 he talks about them shifting the blame. Can u explain exactly what he means? I probably should be getting it, but i dont wanna miss or misconstrue a thing. Im sorry these may be dumb questions. Thanks

    • @fleetwd1

At 33:22 he is saying that the belief he had been raised believing namely that the Holy Spirit no longer works outside of the Bible is a false teaching. It is called secessionism theologically. It means the gifts of the Spirit known among the Disciples and early Christians no longer work in our age. It is true the Bible is the vehicle the Spirit uses most effectively. The Word is Spirit breathed. it is the teaching that gifts are no longer available that is not true, although it was late in life when Edward saw through this error. it was not until the 1980s for him to see this error clearly.
At 37:45 he is referring to the hyper Preterist who teach everything that was to come in the future already happened then in 70AD. There is some truth that 70 AD was a type of the future end. But the hyper says no nothing further will happen. This also relates to the teaching of secessionism. These classes were being taught at Lipscomb University where the students would likely know of these teachings.
at 40;05 the shifting blame he explains before in Acts the writer says "you" killed Jesus because they were speaking to the people who had committed the act of crying out Crucify Him Crucify Him. Later in the book he shifts and says those in Jerusalem killed him because the audience now had changed. So the blame went to those responsible.
They are not dumb questions. It helps if familiar with Edward's development, theological terms, and listening to the context.
These ideas he shared about evangelism are from a mature perspective. I was surprised to hear anyone express things I had grown to know over time but had never heard them being taught. Edward is full of insights. He is very biblical in his understanding. Jesus is always central to Edward's thinking as he should be in ours.
Thank you for your interest in Edward's teaching. He has more @ edwardfudge.com His gracEmail was a very popular blog. he is no longer updating it but you can search it for answers to things you might hear Christians talk about. His answers are always insightful in understanding Christ and Scripture

Why do all hell testimonies say hell is forever

    • @fleetwd1

it began when Greek philosophers who believed in man having an immortal soul came into Christianity in the 2nd and 3rd Centuries. Tertullian was one. He even tried correcting Jesus word not to fear them who can kill the body but to fear the One who can destroy both body and soul in Gehenna. by implying even Jesus knows the soul is immortal. Scriptures are clear that man is a mortal being, immortality is given to the redeemed at the Coming according to Paul. Also he writes only God has immortality in Timothy. The idea that the soul is immortal became intrenched through Augustine, Calvin and others. Edward's book "the fire that consumes" has a history of its development. .Although many claim it to be the biblical position they read into the text this tradition rather than getting the teaching from the Bible.

There is no question that Mr. Fudge is a humble and scholarly man but very possibly he neglected to read the very back of the book. Here is what the Bible actually states about everlasting punishment: Rev 14:9 If anyone receives the mark of the beast on his forehead or on his hand, he also will drink the wine of the wrath of God.....and will be tormented with the fire and brimstone; VS 11 and the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever they will have no rest day and night. Rev 20:10 And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone.... and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. Rev 20:15 And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life he was thrown into the lake of fire. The key to avoiding this awful terrible tragedy is to do exactly what Jesus told the religious leader of the Jews to do: "Truly, truly, unless one is born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God." John 3:3 How? Repent of your sins and ask God for His mercy and to forgive you. Believe that Jesus is truly the Son of God and that he died in the cross to redeemed you with his precious blood. Trust in Him, confess Jesus as your Lord and Savior and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead. Receive His free gift of grace through your complete faith in him and you will become a child of God. John 1:12

Actually Edward covers all Scripture related to the subject of the punishment of the wicked. So should you want to understand how he deals with these and any other texts you can think of watch more of his videos including Q&A sessions or better yet read his exhaustive book "The Fire That Consumes" 1St edition first published 1982 or 3rd edition published in 2011 where he includes replies to the 17 people who wrote objections to his 1982 edition. there is no oee who covers the topic more completely than he. In the 1st edition at the end he appeals to those holding the traditional view to bring any evidence that he had not covered. The 17 authors who opposed his view did not bring one argument that he had not already covered but he still replies to them in the 3rd edition.
