No wonder Jason Mraz was blown away. Not in just this song, but in ALL Sungha's covers, he somehow manages to play not only the melody part, but also the vocal. So talented it is almost unreal.

So he's keeping the beat with a bass thump, the bassline, playing background chords, the vocal part pristinely and some delicate noodling, all at the same time, all with feel and lovely timing. Beautifully done.
I Started playing guitar 12 years ago. I was 11 at the time. This was one of the first difficult songs I tried to learn. It was way beyond my level I had only picked up the guitar a few months prior. I practiced all day everyday for 2 months until I could finally play it. You inspire me to this day Sungha Jung. Respect.

I dropped by after years for another pass - May 2020 - Still blows me away, this is one of the top 10 songs of my lifetime (age 72)...still very nice!
It's really something when you cover a song and do it so amazingly well that the original artist learns from it and changes his own song to incorporate your style.

The key to how good it sounds is that he is playing so well and so perfectly for the entire band - Rhythm, melody, vocal, beats and bass in one guitar.
I have been watching Sungha since his early years, must have been around 8 or so, until now. Seeing him grow as an artist and from a child into a young man. Way to go, Sungha! I hope to see you for a lot longer.
Just imagine the practice hours put in to play like this from such an early age. The focus and dedication will have been immense. Also, learning the correct way as early as possible is incredibly important....timing and technique before any of the fun stuff is the key.

+Matthew Cross I play probably 10-15 minutes a day when I'm really busy with school and work but more like 4 to 5 hours a day when I'm on break like right now :) I started playing guitar in late July of this year and can play bits and pieces of what he's playing here... my goal is to be able to play this whole thing in the next month of practice. My advice-- just keep with it no matter how frustrating it gets. I still have a really tough time with bar chords but I don't give up. That's the key. Persistence and lots of practice.

Before I say anything else, this kid is a gun. Natural skill and execution. However, He still plays like he is going through the motions. I hope as he gets older he finds the soul and emotion in the music and plays with more feeling. Im sure he will, he has already done so much at such a young age.

I totally agree. In these older videos, it definitely is that way, the near robotic movements. But his more recent videos are a lot more emotional.

Yeah I can play with my eyes closed, when you play a chord enough it just becomes muscle memory and if you know the song by heart you can quite easily play with your eyes closed :)
