I don’t know if everybody feels this way, but for me, feeling completely over my head and under prepared can be an empowering thing. Having nothing to lose can truly be a rush.
I felt like that in the first marathon I ever ran. Something I've learned; no matter how underprepared I (or you) may be, more than likely, there is someone else out there even more underprepared and isn't giving it a second thought.

There is something about the way Eric McClellan tells this story that reminds me of my brother in law. The mannerisms, the similar look, etc. And yes, that IS actually a compliment, lol. I miss him and my sister dearly.
@@GearheadDaily I hope he does too, I bet there is some gems and you're great at telling the stories. I know it'll never happen but to be able to just ride in a supercar would be a dream of mine, preferably harari California or 250, Lamborghini Diablo or a McLaren, I have always had a thing for the Aston Martin DB5 which is drawn me and to loving the brand.
@@johnd9357 actually there are a lot of amateur and professional Racers who played for the just for that reason does it actually is the most accurate depiction of the track but I know that for a fact
Aaron Mikusa yes I know people use it to learn track layout. I do the same. It however does not however simulate real driving. Pulling real Gs in turns, knowing when to apex, etc. You could do 500 laps at road Atlanta in forza and still have to learn the track again. Real life is far different than the games. I came off road yesterday for the first time. I’ve probably got over 1000 laps in forza at road Atlanta, yet I still had to learn the track in real life. There’s just no substitute. I did lay down a 1:45 lap time in traffic which I’m proud of though.
I feel I should clear up a few things about Champcar: 1. It's no longer called Chumpcar, it is now 'Champcar Endurance Series' in case anyone is interested and wants to read more about it. 2. Champcar has no relation to $500 cars. Money isn't even mentioned in the rules. 3. You don't have to be dressed in safety gear in the drivers meeting. The fact he did that (with being planned to drive 3rd, about 5+ hours later) is not necessary and a little funny. 4. If he had attended the mandatory novice meeting (for first time drivers) he would know what the flags mean.
#3. We did have to be dressed because we were crewing the car and in the pits during fueling/driver exchanges, but yes I was green. #4. I did attend, but have absolutely no idea how i missed that part.
3 minute laps, Big track ? xD go to the Nürburgring Nordschleife here in germany thats a BIGASS TRACK under 7 and a half minutes with these cars ? AINT HAPPENING! xD
Kai Brandt reminds me of when I did a gran Turismo endurance race there took me about 5 hours of gameplay straight to finish it I was soo fucking excited when I was done I just flipped my system off... unfortunately this was before autosaves were hugely popular and lifesavers and i didn’t get the save done. That was my last time playing that game.!😪
5 things that make UA-cam channels suck 1. Advertising your channel under other popular people’s channel 2. Doing the above but just commenting everywhere just so people get to see you it’s like a low key promotion and some guys in particular are horrible at hiding it cough one of them you’ll find on this thread 3. When they ask you to like and subscribe several times in a video 4. Super sporadic upload schedule- we like schedules ( we as in adults lol) its. nice to know you can depend on when someone will drop a video. 5. The horrible “5 things every _____ “ lists or “5 things I hate about the quarter million dollar car I just purchased.” Once again if they were legit complaints and not click bait I’m all for it but unfortunately that’s rarely the case. Thankful VINwiki has been able to grow without these shit tactics those are easy ways to not get that sub and easier way for me to hit thumbs down like a petty 3rd grader. I think I’m going to start a channel critiquing youtubers in the dozens of different UA-cam topic niches.( not really I’m far too lazy lmao)
Sounds like a blast. At some point we need to put together a VINwiki lemons team.
that would be great!
I'm down lol
Absolutely should.
this would be amazing. Especially if you can rope some of the story tellers into being part of the team.
Lamborghini or Porsche?
Cheap car racing is super cool. Thanks for sharing the story Eric. Glad you got to join the team.

Aphex28 this is very, very true.
This Dude's story about the guy pooping on the floor of the Firestone store was the best thing I've watched on UA-cam in ages!

Except me. Came off road Atlanta just yesterday. I’m on track at least once a month.

Couldn't agree more! Keep up the good work Ed!
Freelance Automotive Journalist - translation - makes very little money with cars but has a whole lot of fun with them.
Dude, you know it.
That first race, when you realize that you're at least consistent, is such a great feeling.
Not fast, but consistent. LOL i'll take it.

Gotta love how the beard makes him look like Ed's lumberjack cousin on a visit to town!
So warm.. so warm..
thanks for sharing man!!
You got it!
Another great video - Maybe the best channel now for car guys and gals.
Interesting story. I'm sure I was at this race if it was within the past 6 years, definitely remember seeing the TR7 he mentioned.
Probably, I think this was maybe 3-4 years ago.
Hey you're back!!! Nice to see the glorious beard again, this one was just as good as the first.
Thanks! Appreciate the kind words :)

Chris Rigley Plot twist, he’s been making it up all along😂
the ducky you meet might be the same guy i meet as a kid. He has been going to road America since it was a road course through the city.
Last time I was this early, Richard Rawlings was cool.
Too bad he was never cool
Clint Gilford, wait, he's not cool anymore? When did that happen?
Last time I was this early, Doug Demuro still could have went on Ed's record run
The differential killer. I love it 🤣
