Seriously, I've been watching screen printing videos for a year and just came across this randomly. THANK YOU for finally just talking about the difference of a choke and a trap. I get it now! I wish you were doing more videos. I just watched your screen printing series back to back to back and I feel like some of it sticking now. I'm a newbie who really wants to get into screen printing and have a 4/1 press in my garage and I feel like your information is so so so helpful! Super cool illustrations too on your part!
Hey man, great videos!!! I have a small print shop business in Denver, Co. and your tutorials have helped me shorten my artwork hours. The less time I'm sitting at the computer doing artwork, the more I have to grow my business. I hope you can do more tutorials on color separations and more complex art. Also, process color separations would be appreciated. Thanks alot man!!! Keep up the great work!!
Thanks a lot Alejandro! I'm glad the videos could help. Yeah those are subjects I definitely want to do and will do in the future. Been crazy busy at work and around the house and fallen behind on filming. Thanks again!
5:24 you can pause there and create another video with speech bubbles sharing all your bad underbase experiences (always something good can be transformed from something bad) 😊BTW, on a recent video from The Print Life he called that a "choke". And the same terminology is also used on Photoshop (a thick outline color). Are you sure you are correct on this?
Super helpful video, never had this in mind. Where I get really lost is when you start talking about the traps and chokes, and how to use them in small details the best example could be 24;42. What is that for? Why I don't just use the underbase as you explain the whole video? Is it for small details so the underbase doesn't pops outside the drawing when printing?
Thanks for the tutorial on this! Do the strokes for the trap and choke need to be converted to shapes before sending to your printer? Do the chokes need to be knocked out of the artwork or do you leave them as strokes with the same color as the tee?
Thanks for these videos, they help a tonne! I am a little confused though, I am very new to screenprinting and I am unsure, but because the lizards belly is translucent, does that need to be converted into dots when printing? or are you able to leave it as translucent and it will print on to the white as the colour you intended?
Thanks Kyle!! So using transparency with spot colors is nearly the same as tinting it (reducing the color percentage). They will need to be converted to halftone dots in order to print properly. If you need help with that you can see my video for turning Illustrator colors into halftones by exporting them to photoshop. ua-cam.com/video/7QV0kHrnjUg/v-deo.html If you have RIP software it will automatically output halftones for you when you print however. Thanks again!!
I used to pay a company to print out my films. They had a shirt on there display with 6 colors with all variations of halftone percentages. Each color would overlap and create other colors. Like where your lizard haz 2 greens the yellow and blue would overlap. Saving press space when you have 8 colors and have only a 6 color press. Can you do a tutorial on this. And what color inks are the best to achieve this process.
when i'm printing separations with strokes, the strokes doesn't print even if it is a spot color. should i print these layers separately? and not in 1 file?
Thanks for posting. Seems to run a little bit long for that particular technique, but that's probably just me. I wonder if it would help to have the word Tutorial somewhere the text. Searchable. Good luck with the channel
Jason Wood Hey Jason. I really appreciate your honesty. Yeah I think sometimes in my pursuit of thoroughness I do get a little long winded. But I do try to cover everything I think might come up and address any questions beforehand. Gonna definitely try to get all of this down in text form too. Thanks for watching dude!
