    Step by step guide on how to correctly feed a tennis ball
    🎾 Use a continental grip
    🎾 Start in an open stance position
    🎾 Point the tip of the racquet towards the side fence
    🎾 Swing across the body
    🎾 Do not use your wrist
    🎾 For more depth/power swing high to low

      Intuitive Tennis Nick, do you keep the wrist firm/feeling of strings pointing to the side fence? I’ve been working on this following instructions as you put them, but tend to get under the ball and push is long and to the right vs rolling the ball. What do you suggest?

    • @IntuitiveTennis
      @IntuitiveTennis  4 роки тому

      Hi Justin, in the set up the tip of the racquet should point to the side fence not the strings. Keep the racquet firm in your hand. You'll get better control that way...

      need some help how do you feed the ball without the wrist flapping around? when my racquet goes from wrist lag to swing across body, I can't control racquet at all!

    Nikola, you’re the man. Love how eloquent and succinct your lessons are. You’re definitely one of the top coaches out there. Apart from your intellect, your approachable demeanor is something that a I personally appreciate. You’re a beacon of knowledge and we are all richer for it.

    This seems so straight forward but its something I've always struggled with hence I always start a feed with a backhand slice which is easier and more accurate for me. I will try and follow your method, thanks.

    Thanks so much - been failing for years. You think you should be able to start a rally with a nice, cleanly hit stroke & have a nice easy, cleanly struck rally. It hasn't been like that for me. Haha, Seriously though i do feel like you are very in-tune with the pains and struggles of us common folks just trying to learn or improve our game. Thanks for the great instruction, I have always felt like starting a rally was way too difficult. I tend to just hit a mini serve a lot of the time because my feed is weak. This will help a lot!

    Thanks for providing excellent tips on an important topic for rec players. Many players feed by hitting the ball off the bounce, can you speak to pros and cons of this method versus hitting it in the air?

    • @IntuitiveTennis
      @IntuitiveTennis  4 роки тому +2

      Great question Albert
      It’s better learning to hit it in the air. Letting the ball bounce complicates things and requires a lager swing

    • @willkittwk
      @willkittwk 4 роки тому

      Fed actually hits the feed off the bounce once in a while but usually out of his hand.

    Another interesting topic that is rarely discussed. I find the hardest shot to feed for is the smash. The ball tends to go too long, or not long enough, or not high enough: anywhere other than where it should be in other words. Any advice?

    Way more often than not, when I try to feed with a continental grip, I'll end up slicing the ball accidentally, or spraying the ball in a different direction than I'm aiming. I just can't seem to get control of the racket face with a continental grip. Defeated, I resort to feeding with my eastern forehand, and live to die on another hill.

  • @JohnSmith-tw2im

    A great tip - I have been feeding moon balls or short dipping balls, just as you describe for years - much to my embarrassment and others frustrations. I am also terrible when feeding balls to the net for volley practice; should I also use a chopper grip when trying feed balls to the net? Thank you

    • @IntuitiveTennis
      @IntuitiveTennis  4 роки тому +2

      Same technique when you are feeding to the net John

    • @JohnSmith-tw2im
      @JohnSmith-tw2im 4 роки тому

      @@IntuitiveTennis Does that include using a chopper grip when RETURNING practice volley balls - the ball the volley'er at the net has returned after the FIRST feed and have bounced on the court once; that is, during a volley practice rally (for want of the correct expression) ? Apologies for being greedy and asking too many questions!

    • @IntuitiveTennis
      @IntuitiveTennis  4 роки тому +2

      no problem John. You feed to the net person as described in the video. Once the net player has returned the ball you transition into your regular groundstroke technique (including grips).

    A lot of rec players don't get the this is supposed to be "cooperative", so instead of hitting a neutral ball to start the rally they actually try to hit hard shots or shots away from opposing player. Or, if you feel them a neutral ball to start a rally they immediately try to hit a winner off that initial feed.

    Hi, can i use this technique to feed balls to children during training ?

  • @CardsharpChris
    @CardsharpChris 4 роки тому +2

    I understand and agree with you completely. But, I play with a partner that hates this because the ball comes to him at a slower pace. He feels it is not real. He wants me to feed with my normal Eastern forehand grip to simulate the actual groundstroke that he will be facing. Do you ever hear about this complaint? I both teach and play, so I tell him that when drilling, it is proper to feed with Continental. But, this is a player that likes pace. What do you think, please?

    • @IntuitiveTennis
      @IntuitiveTennis  4 роки тому +3

      A feed will never be “real”. It’s important to get rhythm in a rally and this type of feed gives us the best chances at achieving that. A topspin feed in my opinion is worse. If you are talking about feeding out of a basket that’s a more complex issue.

    • @CoachAdrian
      @CoachAdrian 4 роки тому +2

      Seems your partner is way too picky with a regular ball feed. He should be able to handle it.

    If i feed in continental grip, the ball shoots really high. So I usually use eastern forehand grip as that's the most comfortable grip to hit forward. What do you think is the problem on my feed with continental grip? It's probably hard to answer without video but maybe you've seen this problem?
