Well Twilight was trying to get back on the old man's good side by doing whatever he said and didn't want to do what she likely felt was right because she didn't want to piss him off further. The rest of them were just fangirling it up when it came to the other pillars.
Seeing the direction last season's finale went, I was kinda hoping we'd get new main characters, but it doesn't look like the Mane 6 are going anywhere anytime soon :-/.

Actually, the pony of shadows was mentioned before in an episode when pinkie pie was being spooky and they thought it was the pony of shadows. It was in an episode where they visit an old castle
sins aside, I think would be worth-praising how they actualy hand-drawn animated the pony of Shadows when he appeared the first time. Considering the reputation of flash animation, that looked like something the animators tried to have fun with.

Sin 23: the map, the castle, everything came from the pillars, it was said in the episode itself, come on! Explanation doesn't need to come IMEDIATLY a doubt arise, things can have a build up.
Sin 28: the idea of gathering magical items is old, but the RESULT was different in this episode. They weren't trying to "save the day", just though they could rescue the pillars.
Sin 40: Eternal Darkness =/= Eternal Night.
Sin 48: ah yes, all these reformed villains that STARSWIRL NEVER HEARD OF. I'm pretty sure he would reconsider his philosophy if he was here to see it.
Sin 51: Uuuh, Luna wasn't being controlled by any force, she became Nightmare Moon on her own, just like Celestia fears becoming Daybreaker, which begs the question... do Alicorns have a natural tendency to grow insane? Like, this much power in a single body can mess up your mind with time? Would be interesting to have that as season 8 finale, like, showing that even Cadence and Twilight can grow insane if their emotions take the best out of them.
Sin 52: Petrification =/= Banishment? Plus, I still think opening a portal to a realm where time doesnt exist is much stronger than a timetravel spell or petrification, which can be done naturaly by basilisks, for crying out loud.
That alicorn mental thing is a pretty interesting consept. Hey what if cadence is (in my eyes) often emotionally detached from others dispite her talent because she connects *too* well? Like the emotions of everyone around her make it hard to show her own? Or that's why she never seems to do much, she's constantly struggling mentally with her power? I mean we know she was an artificial alicorn, and if she was a pegasis then not only would she have to have unicorn magic, but alicorn magic. Not sure. Could also be why the princesses don't do as much, they're worried about how far they might go?

I honestly thought The pony of Shadows was a disappointment....like he looked cool, but he didnt seem that powerful and as you pointed out he wasn't any different from Sombra or Nightmare Moon in the regards of he was just being corrupted and controled by the dark magic he was using....even though Luna was never actually said to have been using Dark Magic as Nightmare Moon, i understand the fandom had just come to that conclusion.....and Star Swirl is just an ass hole and I think it would of been better if he had become Discord

Don't even ask me why I'm an commenting 4 years late because I don't fucking care what you have to say! How is Star Swirl an asshole for being mad at something that easily could have been avoided if Twilight wasn't so eager to bring them back? Star Swirl has the right to be mad at Twilight for not just bringing them back, but for bringing the Pony Of Shadows back, which was a very powerful villain, which was not just a huge struggle for the pillars, it took years, decades, even centuries to bring him down. And now he has to be taken down again. Twilight is the idiot here, not Star Swirl. The pillars just did centuries of hard work, all for nothing thanks to how much of a naive fool Twilight is.

Sin 25: To an extent it does make sense. Just because magical entities are common in this world, doesn't mean normal ponies who suddenly gain super strength are. Modern technology in real life can be used to flatten cities in seconds, but I would be right to be skeptical if you told me someone had that kind of power in their bare hands.
Sin 26 Her whole family is known for having that level of strength. It's part of their jobs.

Hey dude, you can get rid of the "as if we've heard the story before" because in the episode with the castle (can't remember the name) AppleJack told RainbowDash the story of The Pony Of Shadows. Of course, it was different, but there are loads of different ways of telling legends (there are many different stories that tell the same events in Greek Myths, like the stories of Prometheus and the reasons why he was chained to the mountain)

When I got around to part 2, I thought Starswirl and his team would have to seal the Pony of Shadows back in Limbo, forcing them to be trapped again. And it would end with Starswirl telling Twilight that he's proud of her and to keep learning or something before he vanishes.
This would leave the mane 6 sad, but at the same time, thank them for saving the world.

In the same episode Spike plays of the pony of shadows as more of a hoax or fake story, right before we see a dark figure with yellow eyes. Episode name is Castle Mane-ia.
There was a full episode explaining the new legendary ponies not to long called campfire tales where Apple jack, rarity, and rainbow dash all went on a trip with their younger sisters and told the legendary the flower maiden, sheld Pegasus, And the strong earth pony. Then in the episode Daring done is where we meet the Pegasus with the blind fold, And for the weird mask was one called health of information. Not to mention there was an episode for the pony of shadows way back but that episode name I can not remember.

Starswirl had been mentioned throughout the whole series, the healing pony(MeadowBrook I think?) had been mentioned in the season five premiere(but as a unicorn?), and the Pony of Shadows was hinted at in season 4 episode 3.

The shadow pony WAS mentioned before. Remember the episode where the main six went into the sisters’ old castle and got scared shitless by what they thought was the shadow pony for 22 minutes. Then at the end they found out it was just each other, then there was a shadow pony that broke the fourth wall and glared with yellow eyes after the main six. There were theories that it was starswirl and everything! REMEMBER?!

I loved this episode....it may be the second or third best season finale for me.....we got lore....we got 3 good morals.....we had a lot of continuity....it complitelly surprised me with the forshadowing.....there were all in character.....twighlight showed to be better than his idol.....i was entertained.....and there were but little plotholes in it. I love you moliminous, i know you are tired but i you were too harsh men. For the rest if you want to stop.....i will continue watching your videos.....

I think this season finally would have been better as a season starter if they did this like what they did with the locked box tree of harmony and have them trying translate the book and find the relics scattered across equestria.

Yup, I was gonna add that we did hear mention of "the pony of Shadow" in that episode where they revisit the old Castle NMM was holed up in waaaay back in Season 1. We still don't know who that pony was at the end of that episode though (unless it was just Pinkie Pie).

You keep talking about how we dont know anything about these legends.... but actually we do. they each were spoken about in an episode that went pretty into detail about how they became so important. in fact, those episodes tell exactly why all those things are important as well; strength, healing etc. .
In shadow play part 2, before Starlight asked the pillars about the Pony of Shadows, when RD shined flash Magnus's shield, for a split second when she handed it to him, her back wing is a different color

We did hear about the pony of shadows before. In that episode where they went through the two sister's castle (and there were trapdoors everywhere).
Apple jack had the super strenght from that one episode when the main 6 dressed up as that super hero to teach Rainbow Dash about bragging too much, when she stopped something from falling of the cliff.

The only sin I see here is believing two universal concepts are tied only to an obscure anime and thus anything else that introduces those concepts is ripping off from said anime.

Moliminous, the pony of shadows WAS mentioned (and somehow seen at the end) on the episode where Pinkie is playing on the organ in the Castle of the two sisters.
maybe the thing where they were being controlled by (the shadows/darkness) is a continuous thing, and they'll address it in season 8

We heard the Pony Of Shadows story back in castle mania. Rainbow Dash is refering to that. Over time the story was drastically changed over generations of being passed down, though I still cannot understand that shadow we saw in the end of that Castle Maneia Episode and why it looked more like star swirl. Or perhaps there were two Pony of Shadows and Dash mistakes this one for the other one.

They actually DO KNOW the story of the pony of shadows. If you would pay attention in season 4 the episode " Castle Mania " the ponies talk about the pony of shadows and even thought that it was there, even though it turned out to be Pinkie Pie playing the organ.

You forgot to mention that the story portrays the pillars as being entirely wrong for viewing Stygian as a bad person but he stole their artifacts without asking and placed them in a position that clearly resembled a mystic ritual and after getting caught he didn’t try to explain himself and he came back as a shadow monster so they had every reason to think badly of him and absolutely no reason to think otherwise

I don't get how none of the mane six saw any similarities between the Pony of Shadows and Nightmare Moon. They were both good once, until they realized they were being casted out by their loved ones, so they became consumed by jealousy and were granted a huge evil power, which they attempted to use to cast Equestria into eternal darkness, forcing their loved ones to step up and make a sacrifice in order to banish them. It's a pretty solid pattern, and you would think someone noticed it.
I normally watch these parodies for a laugh because that's all they are but that one point has been on my mind since I watched the finale
How the heck could they have been gone for 1,000 years when Luna was banished for the same time AFTER they were gone...obviously after since they know nothing about the tree and the sisters used the elements before Luna was banished and she returned FIRST and by a few years at that
Thought you'd bring up the fact that Luna should have a solid grasp of old ponish, It's unlikely she'd have known about the changing language during her imprisonment. Considering the way she spoke in Luna eclipsed, It's likely Celestia had only taught her the basics of the current language by that point. Also no mention of the Sirens. Starswirl was a complete Bell-end in these episodes.
I'm sorry but i find this to be one of mlp's strongest season finales. It closed a lot of holes (the pony of shadows from castle maniac) and finally gave us starswirl. Not to mention the season has been talking about the legends. For some reasons bronies just can't seem to let go of the old mlp seasons and automatically hate the new mlp seasons. That's just my opinion though :)

2:43 you can forget any language if you don't practice it for long enough, I have a friend who spoke Russian with her mother who doesn't speak a word Dutch despite living in a Dutch speaking country (she married someone here) and she didn't speak a word Dutch untill she started school, then she slowly spoke with her mother less and less and now she barely remembers a few words Russian, if it's been over a thousand years for Celestia I can see how she is a bit rusty, also if Luna wasn't aware of time passing and to her it feels like just one second passed while she was on the moon I can imagine she wouldn't be so rusty as Celestia depending on how long ago they switched to the language currently used. Also they are the rulers of Equestria, who has time to read and translate an old book if they have to rule?

Sin 5: The show never claimed that the ponies were from different time periods or from, opposite sides of the globe. They are just from different regions without mentioning how far these regions are away from each other.
Sin 7: Being a tutor of Celestia and Luna does not garantuee that he tells them everything about his plans.
Sin 9: The Pony of Shadows is actually known as a myth in Equestria. We heard from him in the season 4 episode Castle Mane-ia.
Sin 19: Actually it was Starswirl who invented the time traveling spell. Starlight just upgraded it a little bit.
Sin 31: To be honest, the scene only shows that Garble is dumb, not necessary all dragons. ;)
Sin 42: Actually in this both episodes they mix "1000 years" with "over 1000 years" and "thousands year old". So it seems to be not much more than a pony way of saying "a really long time ago"? I don't know...
Sin 43: This scene only shows Twilight's conclusions from whatever she read in the book, not the actual content of the book which (maybe) might contain nothing about the Pillars.
