Unleash Your Twin Cam 103's Potential With A New Cam Set

- When it comes to the Twin Cam 103, not everyone wants or needs a big bore kit, but when a stage 1 isn't enough it's time for a cams swap. Choosing the right cam will take full advantage of your stock components and still be easy on the valvetrain. Cams allow you to target the areas you ride most and put the power where you want it. The right cam can increase your power potential up to 100 horsepower with the right exhaust and a proper tune at a fraction of the cost of a full stage kit.

What cam set would you choose for your Twin Cam?
I went with the Woods 555 Power vision, Target tune Basanni 2-1 pipes. Very Happy
Went Andrews 57h in my 103b. No dyno numbers but night and day difference seat of the pants. Sounds much better than stock too which is a bonus.
Andrews 57 h
Heck yeah! What do you think of that target tune? It's a pretty hefty investment.
That's a really nice cam, Andrews came are high quality and they perform well. I love the lope of a high lift cam.
Woods 222...I have a 2016 Road Glide Special with the 103HO...this help me out tremendously
I have the D&D 2into1...Screamin Eagle Cone filter...brand new Transmission and Screamin Eagle Assist Slip Clutch basket...Screamin Eagle Tenioner...Man-O-War compensator...I should be a beast with the Woods 222 Cam 💪🏾🤴🏾
That 222 will wake your bike up and it will feel like a brand new machine!
I ride a 2015 Road glide special. I bought it from Classic HD of Reading Pa. As the story goes...one of the owners had the bike built up for a "tail of the dragon" ride he wanted to go on. Beside a bunch of other upgrades, as the story goes, it has Andrews 57 cams installed. More apparent, it had a D&D 2 into 1 and a Performance machine freeflow intake...and I it was tuned (and I still have) the orange (outlawed) HD tuner it was tuned with originally and I also have a V&H fuelpak 3 that I bought to make adjustments to the tune when I made a change.
The bike, as purchased, was insanely loud at first. I bought the quiet baffle from D&D but that only quieted in down so much. With the original baffle, it will easily peg the speedometer ...pulling hard all the way. With the quiet (louvered) baffle, it will hit 120 but it takes a bit longer ( I have a 3 mile strip of smooth highway I test it out on a few times per week in the summer)...
My only complaint about the cam is that it's tougher to ride slow and I think it makes the bike loud (I've changed the pipes to a complete V&H dual system but that only decreased the power but it was still loud). With the perforated baffle it screams, it's plenty strong with the louvered baffle too...but it's still really loud.
Is there a way to make a 103 quiet but pretty powerful and nice to ride at slower cruising speeds. I love my bikes power. It'll run with nearly anything but it's loud and a choppy when I'd like to go slow and quiet.
Finally!..Someone showing some love to the Twin Cams. Really appreciate the content. It's fantastic. Wondering if you could do a video of bottom end crankshaft servicing. Does it make sense to true up/bullet proof your bottom end crankshaft and crankcase before getting into a big top end build? Cheers.
If you were doing a complete case split rebuild l would do it at that time. If you're doing a top end kit for the street l wouldn't tear it down to do that. If you're racing it or you ride them really hard l could see tearing it down for that. I appreciate the support on the channel!
I did install the S&S 585 Easy start cam and wow what a boost in power! Also the starter turns over the engine much easier than it did with the factory cam! You wont go wrong installing the 585! You will unleash the power that’s in your bike!!
S&S has a real winner with the easy start cams, eliminates the need for compression releases in most cases.
The 585 easy start cam is one of the cams I’m thinking about putting in my 2014 Heritage. What kind of hp and tq are you getting and where on the power band do you feel it?
@@anthonysantora4924 100hp with my set up and 104ftpbs torque
Thanks for your reply, going tomorrow to set up an appointment and I’ll use your info to make my final decision.
Put a .585 cam in my 103, it made a huge difference in power, did all the work myself...If you do it yourself, jusr make sure you use the quickie adjustable pushrods, easy job to do, and nothing but horsepower and enjoyment
Did you do any head work? I'm looking into .585 cams on my 103
@@ianholmburg3485did you have retune your bike?
I have a Woods TW 555 on my 96 twin cam, klock werks exhaust pipes, K&N Venturi air cleaner and it's been Dyno tuned @ 97hp and 102 torque.
I'd definitely go aftermarket on my 110se. I just haven't decided on the cam yet for my slim s. Hope you make a future video on cams for 110s. Always great videos watching from Upstate Ny
I’m thinking about zippers 587 cams.
All these cams will fit right into a 110, they will really take advantage of the increased displacement.
That's a nice cam, it's hard to go wrong with Zippers!
Just bought a 2014 Dyna. Did pay $1700 for 3 year warranty but should cover everything else. That wood cam is gonna be my first mod!! The bike already has V&H pipes, windscreen, quality bars, and tuned ofc.
Wood makes an awesome cam! I'd just make sure it doesn't interfere with your warranty though.
GixxerFoo,
I'm glad you made this video.
I have a 2016 103HO, and I've been contemplating swapping out the cam chest.
I've put close to 40,000 mile on it. It hammers pretty good, and if you need to evade, pass, etc... you can grab a gear and hammer on it. It has a great rpm range.
I'm just looking to give my bike some more practical torque, and horsepower without compromising reliability, rather, increased intervals of maintenance.
If you've built "hot rod" bikes you know what I mean.
I was thinking of the SE585, the only one for my bike by SE, or Fueling's 543, or 574, or the 525 kit.
But, since watching your video I think I'll nichs the SE cam. For me they're mostly on par, yeah you gain a little, but the cost outweighs the benefit. You're not getting enough bang for your buck.
The Fueling kits are nice and cheaper than S&S kits. I'm not knocking S&S by any means. I've been a customer of theirs many times.
One reason I'm considering Fueling is that they give you a cam description as to how it will function, and its rpm range. The same can be said about the whole kit.
That's helpful information.
S&S's website, their product description doesn't go in depth like Fueling.
I don't think S&S regularly maintains their website, or they want you to go to a dealer.
Your mileage may vary.
Then again, I just may eat crow, and have the local Harley dealer install the SE585, SE tappets, the SE cam plate and oil pump, SE adjustable push rods, etc...
It depends on how thirsty I am to swap out the cam chest.
Regardless of whether I do it myself or let the dealer do it, I have to get the ECM programmed at the dealer.
I don't have the software, or else I'd do it.
By the way, If you know of an alternate way to adjust my ECM let me know.
Best Regards,
If you're going Feuling, I would highly suggest FuelMoto to order the cam and the Power Vision tuner. The Power Vision will give you a much better tune right out of the box. Likely a lot cheaper or right on par with what Harley would charge you, either way it's going to be a lot better tune than the dreaded "download" at the dealer. Best part is ordering from Fuel Moto, you give them the specs for what your bike already has done to the motor and for the cam you want to swap to. They will preload the map for your setup onto the Power Vision and the bike will run pretty well right out of the box. If you decide to really dial it in on a Dyno, Power Vision is what most all Dyno Tuners use and they can tune it for even more power.
Wood cams sound awsom
It produces some serious power all over the rpm range, they did a hell of job in design.
Well I made a appointment with my Harley dealer last week and they ordered me the wood TW 222 cam and the rest of the stuff I needed. I drop the bike off tomorrow, their working on it Tuesday and I’ll be picking it up Wednesday. I will give you a report after I ride it a bit.
Great info.
Woods is my option.
Cheers.
Thank you! Thay Wood cam is really impressive, it gains all over the power band.
Gday from Australia, gotta say, really enjoy your content and now shopping for a tw-222 woods cam. I'm no racer but every now and then like the blast of a torque monster.
I've got a 2015 Road king classic Rushmore High Output with Big Screaming eagle slip ons, Big sucker air intake, Power commander 5 and Cat-less power headers. Screaming eagle performance spark plugs and wires, (Plug Leads). I think the tw-222 Wood cam and a new map will really suit what Im after. Fingers crossed.
Look forward to more content. Cheers! Happy new year mate. regards Craig
Thank you! Being down under you get to ride all year round, right now I am looking out the window at snow on the ground. Sounds like you've got a great setup to build on, the 222 is really hard to beat for the all around performance. That cam in my opinion blows its competition away and you don't lose bottom end for top end or vice versa. It will feel like a brand new bike with a cam swap!
Nice video, you've shown plenty of cam choices and HP/TQ figures. Personally I love the fueling 574, pulls harder that a 15yr old boy after a Taylor Swift concert.
😄😂 nice... lol yeah it really depends on which power curve you like best and fits the way you ride. Peak horsepower and torque aren't all there is to choosing a cam. If you go with the peak numbers alone you risk losing out on a lot of power where you ride the most.
do you have chain drive? and are you getting the full potential off these reaper 574s? im looking for the same cam, but dont know what parts i need and also what parts for light head work, clutch and throttle body . i have a stock 2017 dyna 103 fxdb. im going for gear drive
A video on the 110!!! Please!! So interesting and makes things very easy to understand... Give me a 110 Cam video please!!
Install an S&S .510 cam kit in my 88” and what a huge difference.
Thanks for the input gonna have it done I'll keep you posted on what I get out of HP TORQUE WISE
I have a 584 Crane Cams in my 96 ci engine with a 58 mm throttle body … produces 108 toque
I’m going with the S&S 583 cam. I’m going with it rather than the 551 because I’m probably adding the big bore 110 kit next year. If I were staying with the stock jugs, I would have went with the 551. There is just a lot of torque down low where I do must of my 2 up riding.
What bike are you doing this on?
And what do you think?
I have the 583s on a stock 103 softail slim and have a jug upgrade planned maybe 107 or perhaps 110.
How does the 583s work with your 110 jugs?
@@flattop435 I traded that bike in and got a new Road King because of the continued problems with the POS Legend air ride and they would not fully warranty the product. Sorry I didn't follow through on that upgrade..
S&S 570 chain cam, tappets, adj lifters, and the hydraulic chain tensioner all from S&S. Awesome factory support, quick return calls, complete cam upgrade, 0 doubt.
Right on, it's hard to beat their tech department. If you describe an issue accurately they can get you pointed in the right direction pretty quickly.
I like the wood 222 cam. Thanks for making this video.
Thanks for watching! That cam is really hard to beat, it puts the power all over the chart!
I went with woods 222 Thundermax tuner Bassani header and s&s air cleaner. Very very impressed with everything. Thank you again for this video. It definitely helped me understand what I needed. 2016 Road Glide Ultra

I would / am going with the feuling 543 . Its made for long trips and has good power
Feuling cams make good power, they have a nice power curve that works well everywhere.
Yes , and i like that this one is (as you said ) made for my style of riding , i dont live in the high rpm but like to run out the gears . And should give a bit back on the fuel too .
Im putting in 10.25-1 pistons couse i can . I dint think its worth going for a 107 kit , the last 4ci wont make that much difference
The higher compression will make a huge difference, that's were the power is at!
I wonder how much it will make , im sure my dyno tuner will suprice me
Good timers are magicians, they can even get a stock bike smoother and increase power.
Great info. Would like to see one of these for an 88. I'm looking at putting Feuling 525s in my 2003 Dyna LowRider.
That cam will be awesome in a Dyna! I have one coming, l'll cover fuel injected and carbed.
did you get the 525's if so how do you like them? what parts did you have to get for that cam and whats your setup? im looking to get a feuling cam too but not sure which one
@@Cheaps928 yes, I installed the 525s in my TC88. I moved up to the newer oil fed cam chain adjusters and the conversion cams which don't use bearings in the cam plate. Went with full Feuling setup. Cam plate, oil pump, lifters. Screaming Eagle adjustable pushrods. I'm pleased with this set up. The engine loves running at around 3500 RPM which is around 70-75 mph. Still has plenty of pull when you twist the throttle.
I have a 2015 Fatboy, and' I bought it at a dealership. It came with VH shorty style headers, and' a aftermarket air filter. It sounds good the way it is, but' would like to know what would be a better cam for my bike with the add ons that's already on my bike. And' the tuner I would need for it.
It would be hard to beat a Wood 222 or 555 and use a power vision tuner, it will transform that bike into a beast!
Hi don't know if you will see this but want to ask your advise
I have just got a 2008 softail 96 that has had a big bore 103 fitted with vance & hines big shot staggered pipes roland sands highflow filter but it has screamin eagle 253 cams?
My question is what sort of hp and torque should i expect with this set up and could you suggest a good midrange high torque cam that would improve this
Tom
I ride the 103 on my dyna wide glide and have been thinking of the woods cam or zippers
With a 103 you won't regret it! The 103 really responds well to cam swaps, the Wood cam is a bit noisy but that's due to the overlap. They are pretty high lift for bolt ins but they really produce the power.
Would compression be better than a big bore kit? And I appreciate your feedback and tuning me on to the woods TW222 and the fuel motow tuner.
Compression on a 103 and larger goes a long way, a high compression 103 will smoke larger bores with lower compression with the right cam.
When ever I opened my cam chest I always go with a gear cam and cam baring replacement.
It's not a bad idea at to replace with gear drives if you can, they are expensive but well worth it if your shaft run out is within spec.
I have yet to see a 96 or 103 crank with less than .002 run out but I always installed gear drive cams on the early 88 inch engines.
Gear drives are really nice if you can swing the extra cost. That's the premium upgrade!
Hello, I have installed the woods tw-222 cams. really like them. The next upgrade would be to have the heads ported and polished. Can you recommend a place to have that work done. I live in Orlando FL . Thank you for your time...Gary Chidester
I don't know of any local places in Florida, but if you wanted to pull the heads and send them out Hammer Performance does excellent work. I used them for my Sportster heads and they do Twin Cam heads. These guys make Harley run hard and they are aren't outrageous on the price.
96ci would work for me
The 96 produces really good power with just a cam swap, I'll have that video out Friday!
It is awesome to watch your vidios , I have a 2003 cvo 103 what big bore kits will work thank you
Thank you, for the 103 in that year it's a hard fit since it's a short stroke motor with the 103 cylinders. They run pretty dang hard, camshaft is an excellent option. The Wood TW-6 is a straight bolt in that will work on that bike and make it come to life!
I would love to see harley davidson 95ci twincam b
How about the woods 787 or the 555?
Really depends on what power curve you're after and honestly what kind of Harley you ride whether it be a softail, dyna or touring. The power curve makes a huge difference in the riding experience between a light and heavy bike. The 555 is more of higher revving cam that typically produces more top end horsepower sacrificing a little torque. The 777 is a very high torque cam but it does sacrifice some top end horsepower. The 222 is really healthy balance between the two, it's a very broad cam.
I have a 2014 road king clasic not shore which cam shaft to go with please advice
I am hard pressed to recommend anything else other than a Wood TW-222 on a 103 touring. That cam just has everything all around, more than what other manufacturers cams have even in the areas they target like low, mid or upper rpm.
For a 2010 Tri Glide with two adult I’m thinking about the Wood cam - what ideas do you have ???
I went with the screaming Eagle 255 should’ve got the Wood…🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
255 is a good torque cam, it's what is in the CVO models.
S&S 585 Cam all the way 💪🏽
I'm running s&s 585's
Please add close captioned. CC.
I thought l had it turned on, l will double check and get it added. Let me know if any other videos need it.
Like he said how are you going to ride your bike and what kind of bike do you have. That zipper would be great for a touring bike but maybe not for your dyna Street hooligan so do the resurgence before you pick how you tune and let someone sell you something you're not going to like. There are many who will try to get you to buy something that doesn't fit your style of riding so do your own research then you can talk to friends dealer or tuner and have some idea if they are telling you the truth.
You gotta read that fine print too, some are cams are designed for a heavy touring bike. You stick that in a light Dyna and it's gonna suck bad!
harley if the designers where smart put in idler gears in cases like a lot of pro cars work on lots of harley engines but they fell on their face in lower end since evo single cam and most bikers think the same go back to what works stop making big bore make it affordable;reliable before its to late
I'm in the process of shopping around for my cam & associated parts for my 2014 model 103, and I was just wondering if the stock lifters are okay to keep, or should I be spending a bit more money and replacing them with something like the S&S Cycle SS330-0718 Precision Tappet kit? (or maybe some other brand of tappet kit). Oh, by the way, the Cycle Rama CR570-2 cam kit seems to be a good cam kit according to what I've read on the intergugel, particularly as dyno charts show a big flat torque line from low RPM.
I like to change lifters with the cam, some will say it's okay to run the same lifters which nothing wrong that if they are in good shape. But to me new parts wear out old and I feel better myself with fresh lifters on new cam lobes.
I would like to hear your opinion on the TW-999-6A
I have a 103 with Woods 222, Cobra powerflo intake. What exhaust do you recommend?
I have an 03 CVO Road King and was wondering if that Woods TW-222 would be good for me and if i would need to switch out my valve springs or just bolt in?
For that motor it's a bit different, you might check out a Zippers 575. It's specifically tailored to that engine, the CVO 103 isn't exactly the same engine as the mass production 103 that came later.
I’ve heard of people doing the se 259 without springs? Have you or anyone heard about this? Done it?
I can't say l have heard of anyone that's done that. It's a pretty stout cam for Screamin Eagle. Although most bolt in aftermarket cams are more aggressive and run on the stock springs. I am curious myself now about that.
Love you’re videos bud…
Thank you, I really appreciate it! I just found there were a lot of questions out there about Harleys and I wanted to put out there the things I learned over the years and really had to dig for all in one place.
Great video 💪🏾💯
Thanks 💯
Hey what do you think about the CR 570 II Cam in comparison to the WOOD TW222 for a 103 SGS? Also, I am thinking about going with the RH Xtreme True Dual exhaust which does not have a cat converter. Since I'm not doing any head work or lifters is it best for me to chose a exhaust system with a Cat Converter or not? While changing the Cams should I have new cam bearing installed too? the bike has 13,000 miles on it. Any information would really be appreciated.
I would change you're cam bearings for sure, that's just me though. It's easier to do it while you're there than having to get back into it. I would ditch the cat as well, your bike will a lot cooler and you'll get more power out of it. For a touring bike you might also consider the TW-555 from Wood, it's another bolt in cam and work great with larger bikes. The CycleRama is a very comparable cam to the Tw-222, it's a bit cheaper as well. It doesn't seem to push as close to 100hp as the Wood Cam but it makes big torque!
will it work with a 96ci ?
Yes the cams that work for the 103 will work in the 96, but you don't get quite as much horsepower and torque with the 96.
So what's a good chopy cam for a 16 Road king 103 & good torque
I have a 2014 SGS, I want to do a cam upgrade, can’t decide between the S&S MR103 or the Woods TW-222. After seeing your video, leaning towards the woods. You know anything about the MR103?
I really haven't heard a whole lot about the MR103, I haven't been able to turn up any data on it either. One thing I noticed about Wood is that it is the top choice of some of the larger independent speed shops out there. If they put together a big bore package they really lean towards a Wood cam.
@@GixxerFoo , Thanks for the reply. I think I’m going with the woods cam. Can’t wait to get the upgrade done.
I have an mr 103 easy start, gear drive cam in my 17 Wide Glide. The tq curve is dead flat, holding above 105 from 2200-4200 peaking at 108 at 2900.
It developed 98hp up from 70, with a K&N filter & Freedom 2-2 radical radius pipes. 40% increase in power & 30% increase in torque from the cam, pipes, filter, H-D pro tuner & a wizard on the dyno.
You will notice a huge difference, it's well worth it.
@@bazzainoz9469 , Thanks for the Information.
How about the S&S MR 103?
That's an excellent all round cam, they have a very nice broad power curve!
How do I know if my 103 is a HO motor?
I have a 2007 cvo 110 b engine in a springer. D I need to re cam?
It would really wake the bike up, 110's had pretty mild cams as well. The 110 really likes compression, but a new cam will get you up in the 90's for horsepower.
I may have said this before ,sorry if I'm repeating myself ,but this is just a out standing Channel.
Thank you, we appreciate it!
I’m a H-D master mechanic with 27 yrs. Experience. I run the fueling 543 “freeway flyer” cams in my 95” TC. In my humble opinion these are the best street cams you can put in your Twin Cam. Look up the specs and I think you’ll agree! They supply the torque and horsepower where most people ACTUALLY ride and need it
What I’m running in my 95”. I’m considering the S&S 570 in my 2012 RG ultra
Checkout the S&S MR 103 cam. I had this installed 2 weeks ago in the easy-start gear drive version. It made 108 torque staying above 105 from 2200-4200, & made 98hp with K&N filter & Freedom 2-2 pipes. Originally the bike made 70hp a massive 40% increase in power from a stock 103cu with the right cam change...
Those are impressive numbers, especially maintaining torque like that through that range of RPM. Cams are an awesome upgrade for any otherwise stock engine with exhaust, air cleaner and tune.
@@GixxerFoo that thing just dropped right in with no other parts?
Thank you
Thanks. You know anything about the woods 222 cam?
For the 117ci SE kit
My 2014 103, I put a Woods 222 cam in. Could not be happier. I also did the heads. Power numbers are 116 lb/tq and 103 hp. I looked around and could not find a cam with better torque numbers down low. I love it.
I'm a huge fan of the Wood cam, they are arguably impossible to beat with what I have seen out there. That head work made a difference with that cam, especially pulling that kinda power and torque numbers!
Love the 222 in my 13 Road Glide! Woods is the only brand I recommend when people ask my opinion
Was wondering if you do much 2 up riding and was wondering what kind of difference this cam has made . Thanks Rick
@@rickmay2734 Hey. I've had my wife on back many times. The bike definitely feels the weight. The cam helps a lot. You just need more power than stock imo for 2 up riding. If you have not done a cam change yet, I highly recommend it. You'll love it.
Well it’s a done deed. The wood TW-222 made a world of difference. I’ve went through a couple tanks of gas and I am very happy with the change. The map that they sent me from Vance and Hines was great. Not only more power and torque but I believe the engine runs much cooler, I could feel the difference.
Is it Louder than before ?
So did you just add the cams to your tune to get it running and send Vance and Hines the map to tune if for you ? If so how did it run with the FP3 tune before V&H sent the Map
Did you have to change to adjustable pushrods
So I did the Woods 222 cams, 26000 miles 2015 road king. Replaced the cam tensioners, INSTALLED screeming eagle cam bearings, fueling racing lifters, rocker lockers. EXISTING V&H FP3 . V&H sent me a custom tune. Runs awesome. Just swapped out the big city thunder QQ baffles for the monster baffles. More logical for my bike as the QQ baffles do not fit the correct way in my duel exhaust. Going to have it Dino tuned for 400.00 and call it good. Also got the legend rear shocks and axeo front cartridges. OH MY GOD. Power and comfort. The bike I dreamed of getting the first time I bought it. There was wear on the cam tensioners. Also the Manufacturer put the lifters in backward, the oil slot was facing the wrong way on one head. Way to go, Harley Davidson.
took mine to a dyno and got 8 more HP and 9 more ftb or torque over the V&H map
Thank you for explaining it right to the point and showing the graphs! Best cam video! I think I’m going w Woods 222
Did I get the woods 222? How do u like it?
Did u get it?
Totally agree
Hey bud. Great video. Helped me choose a cam for my 2013 103 Street Glide. Leaning toward the S&S but any of these cams is a huge bump in power. Almost hard to believe. MP
Thank you! Just a cam swap with a good aftermarket cam, exhaust and tuned on a dyno they make more power than a entire Screamin Eagle big bore kit. S&S makes a nice cam and I really like that easy start option which eliminates the need for compression releases. S&S even uses the easy start cams in their high horse, high compression crate engines.
Thanks for posting, I have owned my 103 for a few years and I'm ready to tap in! I had a VH Big Radius and Arleness breather. Upgrading to Bassani B4, but after this review, I am with you on Woods 222...torn between S&S 570...but you help pinpoint from 20 options to 2. Thanks for the vid!!
Glad I could help, thank you for watching!
Please do more on the 96”. I’d like to learn more about tuners and cost to tune also. Great videos!!
No problem, l have a lot of feedback on cs for the 96. I do have a video on the FuelPak and the Power Vison. I've worked with both units, both have highs and lows.
Second this. Cams for 96
@@GixxerFoo I would love cam and any other upgrade advice you have for a 96ci too. I have a 2010 street bob and I want to wake it up.
I would also like some info on the 96, my rocker c needs a kick in the ass !
Cams are a great start, there's some aftermarket big bore kits l'll be covering that will really make them sing.
After watching this video and gaining a better understanding of what goes into choosing the right cam, I’m more than pleased with my decision. I didn’t want to tear down the motor or go bug bore kit. So I went with the Woods 222, and the bike dyno’d right on the money 112tq and 94hp. What a difference, the bike pulls through all the gears the torque is amazing. You don’t need horse power when you have torque. Even the guys at the speed shop smiled when he said for a “baby” cam he was impressed
It's amazing what just a straight bolt in wood cam will do, those are some awesome numbers! Everyone gets hung up on horsepower but the real story is torque, that's what makes it fun.
Did the cam made your bike Louder ?
@@julienbourassa253 I don't believe they will make the bike any louder. They may change the idle sound a bit but for the better with the high lift.
Thats my choice also.Hope it wakes my 2014 Pig up also.
Finally bit the bullet and went ahead with woods 222 cams, man what a difference it's an absolute pleasure to ride my 103 FLHTCU now, the idle lobes are just awesome.
Thanks, Gixer your video inspired me to go ahead with Woods 222.

do you have dyno numbers? I'm ready to get the 222 also
Would you change anything if you did this again? Or is it good. .--i have a 2015 103 ho.. just wondering.. Phil
After thirty years and 250,000 miles riding Harley Davidson motorcycles I made the switch to BMWs. Loved my HDs, terrific bikes, I just wanted a different riding experience. I do wished I would have hung on to one of them as I miss the Harley experience. This channel has rekindled my interest in reacquiring a Big Twin, and I'm off to look at a 2013 low-mile Road King in the morning. I'll keep all 3 'Beemers', and with the addition of FLHR, I'm thinking I'll have my bases covered.
Thank you for helping me decide on the 103 ci GixerFoo - and yes, I'll be installing the Wood TW222 cam as per your suggestion.
Owning and riding a Harley Davidson is fun, and I am looking forward to doing it all over again.
With a Wood cam it really take advantage of that bit larger displacement of the 103!
@@GixxerFoo Purchased the Road King today. :o)
I put cyclorama 570-2 cams I'm my 2012 streetglide I bought new. Replaced everything in cam chest at 56k. 98.7 h.p. 116 ftlbs of tourque. Vance and Hines pipes. Great tune. 31 degrees of timing. Had to put in screaming eagle clutch with heavy spring. Didn't touch the top end. It's amazing. Good manners down low and nuts going up top. Valve springs rattle if you lug it. Still uses very little oil. Would like to do better valve springs. It's running so good I don't want to mess with it. Oh screaming eagle cam plate and oil pump. Better oil pressure now. Fueling lifters.
Love your videos man, they really help me educate myself on my 88 and help me decide on my upgrades, stay golden! 😎👌🏽
Thank you, l appreciate it! Great to hear the videos are helpful!
I run the fueling 543 cams and I love them but it helps to have a 95 inch from an 88 inch with 10.5 to 1 comp. ported heads ,a Thunder header, a 42 Mikuni ,and a 6 speed. my bike is an 02
Oh definitely the 95 and some compression really goes a long way, that shorter stroke makes a nice stop light to stop light motor.
I thought 9.6.1 compression is more than enough for those cams. You have a 88ci?
I love these videos although been riding Harleys for a while now I learn stuff here that you never see else where
Thank you! Really appreciate it, l wanted to create a channel where all the things l searched high and low for are all in one place.
I appreciate it! I enjoy being able to do this, it took me forever back in the day to dig up information.
Just got my first Harley 2012 103 street glide from this video looks like I’ll go with a wood cam to upgrade since almost all my miles are highway 😎
Hey GixxerFoo, I went with the Woods 222 cam. Bike is running strong and feels good only thing I noticed is the RPM’s shoot up really quick 1st -3rd! Almost immediately need to shift 1st gear! Kinda need to speed shift. I do run the bike hard. Just wanted to know if that’s normal for these kinda cam installs or is there something going on in the motor. Please advise! 👍🏼
That's normal for that cam, they come on real strong in that area. On the dyno graph it takes off hard in a climb with power production in that rpm range.
If I install a wood performance tw-222 cam. Would I have to upgrade my clutch on my 103 HO engine.
Not unless you're beating on the bike, if you're just cruising with a short burst to feel the power you're good.
Just had the 222 installed. Holy cow that thing wants to pull the front wheel every time I shift.
I hope my motor stays together. 🛵
Nice! With 222 it shouldn't be a problem, it's got a nice ramp.angle and it's not brutal on the valve train.
I have the S&S 570 in my’15 Ultra & absolutely love it. It really woke up this heavy bike. Also changed exhaust to d&d 2-1 fatcat and big sucker air cleaner and of course tuner. Is a blast to ride.
You've got a really good combination there, D&D exhaust perform very well! That S&S cam is a great cam for the touring bikes, you get that power right where you need it!
@@GixxerFoo I was considering the S&S 551. Any thoughts on that?
Friday night . 1 shot of Honey Jack for every time I heard the word “CAM”. 5:36 into the video I was naked in front of the neighbour’s house red lining my electraglide…..wtf?!
My pick is the Wood cam.....I ride all rpm ranges but stay in the curves more than on the freeway. Torque is what matters to me as it's what moves the bike...Thanks for the vid...I will have those cams.
Good choice! I like the Wood personally, it just has more power everywhere without the dips and valleys in the curve other cams have. Some people complain they are noisy, which they can since they have a lot of overlap to hold the valves open longer to get that power.
What performance will I get with a stock air cleaner and stock exhaust with a Wood TW222 ?
You'll get an increase just cause of the cam, I am taking a guess here as the stock air cleaner is gonna really hold it back. The stock exhaust will kill the horsepower but you will get decent torque. I would hazard to say about 80ish horsepower and torque in the mid 90's. Exhaust and air cleaner make a huge difference!
Thanks. Thats what we saw on the Dyno
SE 259 cam produces a lot more HP with more compression...it needs 10.5 to 1
Yeah that's very true, it's the same cam that comes in the SE high compression stage kit. It really makes some power when you bump that compression up.
I have a stage 2 with a wide band auto stuner screamin eagle on a 2016 HO street glide stage 1 with D&D fat cat. Should i leave it alone or what cam would u recomend for a short shift style riding
This is a great channel, great job.
Thank you! I appreciate that, l really wanted to create a channel where all that information is in one place.
Great Info! I’ve been Enlightened! Lol, Definitely going this route, Wood or S&S 👍🏼👍🏼
Do both the 88 &96 inch. If you make them, we will watch them.
👍 l will get on it, l wasn't sure how much interest there would be on those two motors. There's been quite a bit!
I put in the S&S 583 bolt in Cam in my 2012 Softail Slim. Man it's got power everywhere any RPM any Gear . Love it !
That's awesome! It's amazing what a cam swap will do in these bikes!
I love the S&S 583 cams. Great choice!
Hello I have 2014 103ho ultra limited what cam would you recommend?
For touring bikes the Wood TW-555 or the TW-777 are excellent choices, high torque and great horsepower. The TW-555 is a good choice if your keeping the heads stock and just running pipes, air cleaner and a good tune. Now TW-777 is a better option if you plan on doing some head work and bumping compression later on. Both cams are a straight bolt in so you won't have to worry about valve springs or anything else.
So your telling me that my 2016 limited low has in it already has a 511 lift in it already cool thank you for the knowledge
I have a 2013 FLHTK Ultra Limited with the 103, after watching this video, I went with the S&S 570 cams and It was perfect for those cruising and romping on it here and there. It also gave me exactly the lope I was looking for! Appreciate the video as it did help me choose which cam to go with!
I'm building a 103 and you just convinced me to go with a wood's cam!! appreciate you brodee....
That Wood is an awesome all around cam, especially in the 103 and it bolt in too!
Just did the tw 222 cam in a 103 here in ny its away at the dealer for the winter cant wait to get it back. Only reason i went with the woods 222 is because of this guy. Thank u gixxerfoo
Not a problem at all, it's an excellent all around cam!
@@GixxerFoo what size woods cam should I use?
It's tough to beat that TW-222, it produces serious power with the stock compression and stock heads.
I have a 2015 Street Glide Special with 70K miles. I'm thinking of putting the Woods Cam TW222 on the bike. But with the miles on it would I need to replace a few things like lifters, push rods, etc? Or does it even make sense to make any upgrades with the miles on it? I'm not sure when lifters or pushrods should be changed.
I would check your crank run out for one, if you're going to put a cam it with those miles I would consider a top end refresh. Pulling the primary down where you can rotate the crank by hand would be beneficial. It's a lot of work but it might save you more in the end before you swap cams and find out you have tight crank bearings.
@@GixxerFoo Appreciate the info
So what is your thoughts on the andrews 57h cam? I was looking at the tw 555 and got suggested the 57h by a guy that use to dyno bike and by V&H as they said they had a lot of maps for them. One thing I like that the dyno guy told me about the 57h cam was it has a lot less valve train noise due to the it is ground on the back side of the lives.
Andrews actually makes the cams for Wood, but they are ground to Wood specs. Andrews 57H is a solid cam, you can't go wrong with Andrews or Wood. There are more maps out there for the Andrews as they seem to be much more well known.
Hey GixxerFoo, what's your take on the S&S 'Easy Start' cams? Any downsides with these?
Not that l am aware of, the bikes do as the name implies and they start very easily. They make great power and they don't kill the valve train. S&S does a lot of R&D and they stand behind what they advertise.
Definitely the wood bolt in!! I had no idea that just a cam switch could make such a big difference in HP and torque!! I have a 96" twin cam with a stage 1 set up. Does WOOD make a good drop in cam for my 2011 wide glide? Thanks for the great video brother!!!! 🤘🤘
Oh yeah the Wood 222 is an awesome cam for the 96 and it doesn't require any springs or anything.
Wood the 103 HO, 🤔be the Rushmore bikes..🙄
The HO had a .511 lift cam, and the 103 l think had something like .486.
I believe so
I have a 103 with my Road Glide i bought used from a small dealer in Texas. I love the motorcycle throttle response. But I don't know what cam is in the bike. It could be stock but has really good pull in normal rpm range.
Only way to really know is pull it down and have a look, you could look at the intake valve opening and closing timing which would tell you if it's stock or not but not exactly what cam it is.
Been looking at the Woods NW222 and I think this vid sealed it for me. It puts the power right where I will use it.
That cam just has power all over the chart, it beats some of the cams out there that target top end only without losing the bottom end. It's pricey but well worth the extra money!
Hey GixxerFoo, Im torn between the Woods & the S&S. I have a 14 SGS with Bassani true Dual, Arlen Ness Big Air sucker and an FP3 tuner. I love hot dogging it on the streets and I do a lot of freeway riding. Any recommendations between the 2? Also I noticed the S&S 570 cams are always followed by a letter. Which one is in this review? Thanks, keep up the good work!
For me with a touring bike I would have to with the Wood TW-222, that cam's power is just so broad and it works very well with the heavier bikes. Best thing to do though is really watch your riding habits to make sure the cam you like makes power in the RPM range you ride.
This is great to see, I have a 2015 SGS with a Arlen Ness Big Sucker, FP3, and Bassani 2 into 1.
It pulls really well, but I just want to wake it up a little more. Looking at the TW 222 , and put some new shocks all the way around.
Thanks for a great video, very helpful information!
Ok I think you talked me into the woods 555 however my only concern is it's a 2012 RG with 63,000 miles?the compensator has been replaced, and just did the rocker lockers .
Performance parts are always a risk, but if the engine is clean running and everything is tight l wouldn't be too worried about sliding a cam set in there and going on down the road. I wouldn't be drag on racing on it but just keep doing what got the bike to 63K.
Would you please make videos like this for both the 88 and 96 and maybe even touch on the S&S crate engines
Will do, l have been wanting to cover the aftermarket engines available out there. Sometimes that's a better option than a rebuild.
@@GixxerFoo I was looking into that also....The T111 S@S crate motor will bolt right into my 2012 FatBob
Think the MR103 cam is the best cam for 103's
