  • Watch how easy it is for you to create texture on paper (or backgrounds) for your collage and mixed media projects. This is one of my favorite ways to paint papers that I use in my own collage work.
Rubbing Plates that I use in this video can be found here:

I’ve had 12 of these plates for years and tried using them on the gel plate and was not happy with the results. I love your technique! Your super-duper cleanup system is fantastic. Will definitely get a set-up for myself. TFS 👏🏽💜

Thanks Lisa! I’ve been gel printing for almost a year now and have never see these rubbing plates. The hunt for some is on now!

I have the same rubbing plates & use them on my gel plate too besides using them directly on paper. I don’t know what type of paint you used but if it’s acrylic paint, I’m afraid of washing the plates, stencils, sponges & water for brushes in the sink. I read that it will clog the drain. I wash that type of paint in a big dish pan. When I’m done then I dilute the paint with water & pour it into the toilet while it’s being flushed. Then flush it again 1 or 2 more times to make sure it’s gone. If I use washable paints, I don’t worry too much. Hubby tosses his paint outside in the sewer drain & adds water to dilute if. I still dilute the washable paint before it goes down the drain. I really love the rubbing plates & enjoyed your video. Am going to watch your other videos. Thanks. Tere

Rubbing Plates are interesting. Never heard of them. Love them. Question - what is the difference between using the rubbing plate versus using a stencil/mask to add designs/texture to prints? Thanks. Glad I found your channel.

Hey Marian - Good question. You absolutly can use both stencils and rubbing plates and they both have a very similar effect. I like the plates because they have a raised surface and I get good contact with my papers when I lay them on top of the plate. They are also a good chunky size which makes the work go faster and they are very sturdy.
