  • Max Teegarden teaching how to start his 1938 John Deere G antique tractor. His wife Pat is filming. His father in law, Bill Hylton & brother-in-law Louie Hylton restored the John Deere G tractor approx 17-20 yrs ago. The John Deere wagon with sideboards was painted by Todd Keen in Union City, Indiana. Max and Pat use these to hall all their grand and great grandkids with their squirt guns in the town's parade. Or just for fun.

I spent a lot of hours on one of these when I was a kid in the fields plowing, discing, raking hay.

Enjoyed watching that. My uncle has a 1944 A that is the same deal. Open the cocks to let off the compression then turn the fly wheel. His G he bought new in 1947 & has an electric starter but he still liked to open the petcocks to make it crank easier. Now they usually park it on the hill and just drift off in 2nd gear & push up the clutch and PUT PUT PUT she goes. The 47 G also has a piece on the middle of the flywheel where one can lock in the steering wheel (take it off of course) & crank it

Got a 41 unstyled G myself. Out of all the two summers I own which is a good many. That's still one of my favorites. And still want it I prefer to drive. Great video

My pop had one. It was about a quarter mile hike up the side hill to his top field. When I hear this it takes me back to his house in the summer with the windows hearing him pop his way up the hill through the trees to the top field. I really miss those days.

Watch Max's other UA-cam as he leaves to take the John Deere to town. You can hear it putt, putt, putt, putt good.

The G is a bigger Tractor then an A. The B was smaller then an A. The H was smaller then a B and the M or MT was smaller then an H but ran an vertical 2 cylinder.
