Dedicated to Mike’s sister Monica, who lost a battle with brain cancer in 2008. Posted on her daughter Allison’s 20th birthday. All of Mike’s portion of the proceeds from sales of this song (and video ad revenue) will be donated to the National Brain Tumor Society.

Notes from Mike: A lot of my followers are aware of our baby Noah’s fight (and victory!) over a brain tumor in 2012-13 because of the “Let It Be” fundraiser I posted. Noah beat some very long odds. But most don’t realize that our family had already been devastated by cancer a few short years earlier, as my sister Monica wasn’t so fortunate. The parallels between the two videos are intentional, since both videos are fighting a common enemy.
This was Monica’s favorite song that I covered, and so I put it away after she passed, since I knew it would be very difficult to ever perform again. But I decided to turn it into a positive thing and help raise money for a cure. I couldn’t think of a better gift to give her daughter Allison on her 20th birthday.
Monica was amazing (yeah, I’m biased, but it’s true). And she was my biggest fan--not an exaggeration. She was so proud of my music efforts and so supportive. E.g., any time I came to visit, she’d insist I bring a bunch of my CD’s with me so she could buy them from me (she insisted on paying me since she knew I was a broke college student) and give them to her friends. When my mom came out to hear me at the Pie Pizzeria in Salt Lake City, Monica would ask her to put her phone on speaker so she could listen when I played this song.

A certain song can take you right back to that heartbreaking moment in time as it is with my Dad who died in 87 from colon cancer(age 44)r and then my Mom in 2011 from Ovarian cancer. I love your stuff! All the same tunes I crank out at karaoke with the same passion as what you do. I'm a proud father of a daughter who has the same gift/passion for music!!!

I lost my Sister in 2017 to meds and alcohol. She was only 60. I miss her everyday. My song dedicated to her would be Silent Lucidity by Queensryche. Beautiful song!
A mate of mine died of a brain cancer in the early 2000's and this was the song chosen to be played at his funeral. Every time I hear it I always think of him and now I will think of you and your sister as well. Thanks Mike, beautiful job mate.

Mike, I have been singing and playing for about 50 yrs. you bring me so much peace about not pursuing this calling for a career. just because i didn't does not mean i wasn't successful. i raised four kids and worked at jobs that would provide rather than take a chance. and now i see that just because i didn't make this my calling didn't mean i wasn't any good. you are one of my favorites of all time. i spend so much time on you tube listening to you. keep on keeping on. if i ever get a chance to come see you i will faster than i would go to see the beatles or the stones. or any one else.

Love's evil twin is grief and loss. Life can be beautiful, juxtaposed with brutal. I know your pain, and it's real, and it's appalling normal. You're not alone. Hang in there. Appreciate those you love *every day* while they are with you. And then bless their memory and try to find a smile. He's smiling down on you, so smile back. ❤️ And "Smile Back" is a song I should write about grief. Maybe it's a country song?

I lost the first love of my life (my mom) to glioblastoma in 2013 at 70. She was too young at 70, having to go through that ordeal with a 44 year old sibling would devastate me. Way way way too young. My mom lives in my heart as your sister does in yours. Keep the music coming, it keeps me sane......

Incubus - Dig has always made me think of him, and sometimes it's a little hard to listen to, but I would lose my mind if you covered that song. He started the Folk Club in Guernsey Channel Islands where we live He played Banjo ,Autoharp, 12string harmony 6String acoustic Electric guitar and we both played the fool really well .
When The Rolling Stones played in Guernsey Dad fronted for them . They asked him to go on tour with them , Dad has just signed up for a new job and declined their invite He stayed in that job until he died
