Nice demo and a piano sound that will cut through in a band situation. However when this was first announced I was hoping it would also run on batteries like the DS88 enabling use at outdoor events like weddings etc. But it doesn’t and given its portability this is an opportunity missed Roland.

Buy a jackery. It will run a couple of keyboards and an amp for a few hours. Buy a bigger one if you need more, multiple sizes are available.

@@jml7916 Thanks for the suggestion. Do you use one? Although the specs state WPH a lot of comments on google say it can be tricky to calculate amp demands as these are not clear on the amp specs and of course amps draw differently depending on volume etc. Will check it out.

@@strongchord4384 I’ve used mine to power my rig (2 keyboards and a small rack) but never an amp.

Lovely playing, thanks for sharing, really enjoyed it, job well done!
I also purchased my RD-88 three weeks ago. As you know the builr-in speakers of RD-88 are just good enough for solo practice, the sound level and sound quality is not good for any performance at all. In an attempt to get an acceptable sound for my home (family) performance I purchased a pair of CR5-X monitor speakers and connect it to my RD-88 using a set of TRS cable. I am getting a terrible sound quality while my monitors are decent, after some internet search I noticed others are facing the same issue with this unit, basically I can't get the sound quality I am getting from headphone from line outs.
My question to you is how are you getting a quality sound from your RD-88? How did you resolve this issue? Did you notice that some of the key headphone enhancements are missing in line outs?
Thanks for your advice and assistance in advance

Dear Kam, thanks for the message. Very strange, line outputs and Headphone line have the same sound routing. Pls, try, to connect the headphone (mini jack) output to your audio system, the sound should be the same (pay attention to the volumes). If you have still problems, I suggest you to contact your dealer or your local Roland Service Department. Wish you a lot of great music with your RD-88!

I had the same experience with my Roland RD800. It took me a long, long time to EQ it to my satisfaction. Also--be sure to kick the gain up to at least 10 or 12, then control with the volume knob. Makes a difference.

I would like to know how to do this. I'm currently using my RD-88 in standalone because I don't yet understand ZEN-Core. I thought I could load additional sounds into the RD-88 but apparently that's not possible.

    • @maxfattori5540

Hi Joonny I programmed the song on Fantom, using ZEN-Core sounds and a Spectrasonic Stylus drum kit,, exporting in Wav format and then playing the realtime parts with RD-88 (piano and main lead ) using the Programs, where you can layer up to 3 parts. Wish you great music with your fantastic RD-88!!!

Hi, with new musicplayers.com/2020/05/roland-introduces-zenology-plug-in-version-of-revolutionary-zen-core-synthesis-system/ virtual Zenology synth you can program sounds of Zen Core and export (save) to RD-88. You can try it for a month for free. Also, Roland promised future expansion packs for RD-88. But RD-88 already has 3000 tones onboard and it's a performance keyboard, not a synth/sampler. Most stage pianos are like this. Though there are Nord and, at some extent, Dexibell, Kurzweil pianos which allows to load additional sounds and create custom sound libraries, but those costs twice as much as RD-88.

@@synkuk that Roland video gives the impression that it's incredibly complicated to import new ZEN sounds and expansions into the RD88. I've just ordered an RD88 and would like to add more tonewhetl organ and improved acoustic guitar sounds into the instrument.
