The thing with the Webber style blind shaker is the cone shap that helps in the mixing of the grounds. WiiCoffee makes one at a 10th the price of the Webber but coffee does stick to all parts.
Blind shaker is totally different outcome than shaking a dosing cup with a lid. What happens after shaking matters. My shot pulled 5 seconds faster using Weber shaker. Stunning. I wasnt expecting that.
the blind shaker usually makes faster shot times!!
This happened when I tried it with a dosing cup with a lid on. My shot was significantly faster, and I wasn’t able to get the pressure that I usually get when using the WDT method.
Lance also does a shot in which he pours the beans in very slowly and a little at a time into the grinder. Completely changes the shot profile. That would make a good future test.
Especially with the amount of incredibly controlled testing they do here, heh.
@@rajindergill9480 I like that Hoon tends to be the every man’s interpretation of the nerdy stuff Lance or James figure out.
@@endoalley680 I’m every man, and even I know that a 4g difference in shot volume changes the flavour profile enough to invalidate a comparison.
@@rajindergill9480 maybe your too fussy for this channel. What's a few grams?
@@endoalley680 that’s the point, it changes the flavor, which is what you don’t want when you’re comparing flavor of two different methods, heh. And if it’s for people that aren’t fussy to that extent, there is no point in even comparing flavor nuance. There’s no argument one can make that logically defends this type of flavor comparison testing.
That first puck appeared cracked after tamping. Does the shock of that tamper sometimes crack the puck? Worth doing again .
Good to see Sal :)
I used both methods today, one with WDT, and one with blind shaker. The blind shaker extraction time was 8 seconds faster to achieve 42grams from 18grams espresso! I also used RDT both times. Its messy with blind shaker with RDT, some of the fines stick to the moveable bell and inside the shaker barrel. Interesting.
That is the exact opposite findings of what was presented in this video 😅
Me and my four sons loved this video hoon. Great video we missed this part but watched it just now !! Have a greT Thursday
Hoon, thanks for the video. I just ordered mine, and I’m going to do a comparison, too.
What about blind shaker vs just shaking the heck out of the dosing cup while it's held against the portafilter? Does the shape of the blind shaker and the way it lets the coffee flow make all the difference?
It’s the way you transfer the grounds into the portafilter that different. With the blind shaker you use gravity to drop the grounds into the portafilter evenly from a height distance. You can’t do that with a normal dosing cup.
I like the shaker more on Flow/Blooming profile shots rather than direct 9 bar shots. There are differences in results any way.
What are your thoughts on the Bianca vs Linea Micra?
With all the tools, different grinders, drippers, kettles etc you have, why haven't you got a spoon for dosing your beans?
Shaken, not stirred.
Get a jar with a lid, pour in coffee, shake, dispense into portafilter using a dosing ring or funnel. Cost: $0. These contraptions are completely out of control. Expensive solutions desperately searching for non-existent problems.
Hook the brothers up with those free jar & dosing funnel 😄
@@themodularmodular jar is the bait, dosing funnel is the drug 😂
Ali Baba $9.00 Amazon $12
The "blind shaker" is a definite improvement over just shaking in a dosing cup and transferring. It's easier to settle the bed, faster etc.
And the best thing is you can have this for $13 with free shipping and about 10 days of patience.
@@dnullify100 saw quite a few available, which one is good?
By professional barista do you mean like in specialty coffee shop or like Starbucks?
Presumably specialty... This is a fairly in the weeds coffee channel - why would he bring a college kid working double shifts at Starbucks in for a blind tasting?
I'm not sure if he said he actually prefers it, rather it performed better in his testing.
I use, blind shaker than autocomb and then NCDand tamp with force tamper so no mistake. 🤣
Me too! I like the work flow.
Ones a 20 second shot for a light roast. That’s way too small. Light roast should be 1-2.5-3 ratio. Not 1-2. One shot took 20 second. The other was around 39 seconds. Of course one taste better. Not scientific at all
Lance hendrik is a coffee snob whom I would never take advice from. If you ever think you need to see what he says to know what you think you need to think again. Start thinking first yourself.
