Fort Benning Infantry Museum Tour

- Tours of the new infantry museum are given by a Vietnam Vet named Phil Smith who earned two purple hearts and who volunteers his time so folks can see how troops lived at Fort Benning over the years. My Dad, a Korean War Vet, loved the walk down memory lane, as Phil did a superb job of narration and putting one in the moment. If you ever visit Fort Benning, a visit to this museum is not to be missed.

I visited the new Infantry Museum back in 2010. I was sorely disappointed. So many empty and incomplete exhibits. Hopefully, they've filled them out since then. I remember the old infantry museum when I first visited as a PFC during OSUT. It was on Main Post in one of the older buildings. It was really so much better and more historical. This one tries to make everything in to an IMAX experience replete with rides and 3-D nonsense. Pshaww!!
Go back and see it again it's awesome.
The old museum on main post was great. I used to love going there every now & then. The building was just a cool place, steeped in history. The new museum is awesome, but I miss the old one. I live in Columbus, so I still drop by occasionally.
I was at Harmony Church 1966. I wish I could go back.
I went through basic training in the WW2 barracks they have on display in 1986 at Harmony Church . Wow ! I feel old now . One day I have to go back and visit Ft.Benning where I began as a 17 year old Infantry recruit . I want to visit the Airborne School where I earned my Jump Wings and the Infantry Museum while I was there .

I was in basic at Benning 1966 C 9 3 was my company.
my brother did his basic in 86 at benning too. he was also one of the last to sleep in those barracks. originally from chgo, il. we were blessed to have gone to his graduation in may of that year. i have about 6 hours vhs video of our trip there. it is precious to me because the following march my brother passed away in a car wreck near benning. he left behind a wife an 9 month old baby girl. she is now almost 25 and has 2 children of her own. rip robert harold sloop!!!
I was there in 1980. I remember the little px up the hill from our barracks. I was also 17 when I was there.
Great wisdom imparted by a former First Sgt at 37 mins in.
Thanks for the posting, I went thru basic at Harmony Church in Nov. & Dec. 1965,brought back memories. I could almost hear my DI, Sgt Dixon chewing us out. I did not see any Butt cans attached to the post in the Platoon Bay, I think maybe they are cleaning up history since in 1965 most of us smoked.
Hello, I was at Harmony Church in 86. Drill Sgt Bell and Drill Sgt Coad were my DI's. I am actually looking for recruits that was in my platoon. I was in second platoon.
I had a DS Bell at C-4-2 in 1987.
Corey Reynolds Hello Corey. Harmony Church has soul. My barracks was in front of some barracks that housed Airborne Troops which was very close to the a mock up of a C-130 where the Airborne would jump out of the back. Something that had to do with the Rangers were there as well. Im just on a simple mission to find some old buddies and so far has been pretty hard to do. I hope that they will see this post and reply but i did enjoy reading all the other post though. Ty again Corey
Im sorry to hear that.Bless you.
