Ship in the photo is the USS Chester (CA-27), a Northampton-class cruiser, taken Oct. 2, 1943 off the Mare Island Navy Yard after repairs for torpedo damage and an overhaul. Launched in July 1929 it was commissioned on June 24, 1930. It finished the war with 11 battle stars.
