Clearly, I misspoke about the eject button. That's the pair button. Anyone want to venture a guess as to how many comments will say "why is there an eject button if there's no disc drive" or something similar. I'm guessing at least a hundred! The Xbox Series S and X controller teardown is coming soon!
U said micro stuffed too 😁 just wanted u to know how much focus i have when i watch u r videos 👍
i see that alot of people wrote it in the comments
why is there an eject button if there's no disc drive
@@xRayIsBeastx it’s the button to sync the controller
I was just about to ask that
Damm i wasn't ready for that drop
Lol...don't worry, the floor was very padded!
I thought maybe it didn’t work after you rebuilt it. The drop would be a great excuse as to why it was broken.
My gut was hurting when I saw that. Lol, I was like clenching things I didn’t know clenched.
Time stamp please I didnt notice it

Hey Steve, just wanted to say thanks on this one specifically.
We had a major drama with my sons’ brand new Series S, where he accidentally bumped a full glass of water right onto the machine while it was on!
The machine shut off instantly, so I assumed that was terminal.
I followed your video anyway, mopped up a lot of water, although I think most fortunately there were no signs of water in the power supply.
So, lots of hair dryer use, re-applying of the thermal paste, and cleaning any and everything with isopropyl alcohol, and letting everything stand to be as dry as possible before then re-assembling, when I tried it out it appears that it still works just fine ! Yay !
Xbox (Canada) want $275 cdn to repair/replace, so we likely owe you at least a nice cup of coffee 😃
So, thanks from us, a Dad who has limited experience taking stuff apart, and a 13 year boy who could has been able to keep in touch with his friends due to having his Xbox 😃
So glad you saved it! Nice work!
The XBOX stuff is much more repair friendly. I love the modularity of it. I'm a Sony fanboy and still can appreciate MS.
Ah yes not even ten seconds in and we’re trying to break an Xbox lol
Lol!
But did he break it tho ?
It’s amazing how simple a console becomes when you take out the disk drive.
Is it me or the Series S looks amazingly simple? I love simplicity
its just designed perfectly
Just a generic 2020 type design.

@Zippy Dastrange ok
That must be the pairing button then, right?

the holes on the right side are not exhaust vents as u say around 4:30, those would also be intake, the fan draws the air in from both sides and exhausts it through the large black circular grill.

Yes
Looks like a straight forward build. I can appreciate that.

nice of you to assume that I have one.
It's accurate too, but my gf always apologizes.. one way or another.

Can’t wait to see him do an episode about how he’ll tear down on my life and repair it
omg i had been waiting what felt like for ever for this video to arrive. i had been really looking forward to it.
Thank you for making these so we can actually make informed decisions about our console purchases!
Makes it even more worth it. The easy repairability.
4:16 Not correct, air comes from both sides goes through the fins, and exhausted on the top. So the fan pulls the air up through the heatsink.
Precisely!
Another awesome video! Thanks again for the knowledge and entertainment!
Thanks for watching!
only and only this. man can show everything inside any gadgets like deep profound teardown 🥰🥰🤩🤩
You said "eject button" and my brain was like "oh yes the new emergency escape feature"
Wow... Quickest teardown of an console ever. What an great design...
I’ve been waiting for this
"These will be helpful if your girlfriend smacks that to the ground"
It sounds like personal experience.
Even when it’s not an iFixit video, they’re present in like every tear down
I'm kinda worried about standing it up. I kinda feel the feet aren't enough for airflow and I think the power supply is passive cooled by the cpufan draw so in vertical I don't think its getting enough air.
Thank you for doing these! its so cool seeing the inside and seeing how it all works.
My heart stopped when you did that
Lol...sorry about that.
You don't have a heart you can't fool us humans Terminator LOL
Are you still alive

Awesome video love your console tear downs
Very neat. So far I like that design best of the three new consoles.
I love my series x so much when u drop it my heart stopped from 1 sec....
I like these videos so much I’m seriously considering buying a console from your website. Thank you for another interesting video.
That drop at the beginning splits my soul every time I watch.
I never knew I love watching your vids 👍
Thanks for watching!
When you tipped the Xbox Series X over, I LITERALLY made an audible yell...
Omg my jaw dropped seeing that series x drop 😫
Question! Could I boost the gpu on my series s to make it perform even better? All I see is how low the gpu is clocked and how it could be boosted for better performance they just chose not to do it! So is there any aftermarket thing I could add to boost it, even if it is a little boost, some is better than none?! Also would adding a cooling system have any benefit for the series S! Thanks and happy new year
Modding and painting the white series S is going to be fun
Nice video btw appreciate the clarity
Awesome to see how simple it is. Didn't half laugh with the 'surprise' XSX drop test though. I just know you got at least someone to put their hands over their mouth and nose gasping at that XD.
Thanks for the video. Would be useful when i decide to clean it. I was changing my xbox series position from horizontal to vertical while it was on. Do you think this could harm it in anyway? I did it about 3 times. 2 times i didn't know it was on.
The thermal paste on the SoC is probably the correct amount when there is overflow you get additional thermal conductivity on the side of the chips. Gaming nexus has said this for memory modules
Hey man just want to say I love your videos and you’ve inspired me to work on game systems.. only question I have is what kind of distributors do you use? I’ve been able to follow your repair videos but I don’t know where I can get the best parts for the best price.. can you help please?
Hehe, love when people that know most things about repairs are so in their habits that tehy call the connect button an eject button even tho the series s has no drive. Love your videos. Keep uo repairing
Love your vids
Love the content
When I put so many hours into trying to get a series x for my son which iv promised him for being so good in this hard time and I saw you push that one off the side of your bench, i died a little inside! Lol
Nice, see they keeping master chief alive on all internals!!
Can you change the SSD to a bigger size?
I still can't understand how so many people just blast this console. The Series S is made for the budget gamer, don't buy many physical games and most likely don't have a high powered TV unit. Yes, the 512gb SSD is tiny but don't forget, you can still use your HDD to store games and just transfer them back and forth. You can play of that external HDD as long as it's not a new gen game. I have the X and PS5, but whenever I find an S, it will be in my bedroom ready to be used when the livingroom is in use by my family and to run all my apps on my TV.
Yep, and it's perfect for people who pick PS5 as their 'main' as well; just need to buy Gamepass and then you have access to every Xbox-exclusive game there is. I've only got a Series X so far but I'll be waiting for a Series-S equivalent from Sony to play all the PS5 exclusives.
I just got a Series S today. amazingly small and compact!
My heart dropped along with X...
Great video.
I'm going to ask if you could test what swapping the SSDs between the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S does. Are the drives perhaps locked to a specific console? It would be cool to know if Microsoft would allow you to upgrade the internal storage to the Series X's size.
Yesss I waited for this one! I wish I had one of these to work on, seems sooooo easy lol 😄
very good video congratulations and I would like to know if you can see a video of the thermal paste change of the Nintendo Switch
Series S is an engineering masterpiece
Agreed.
And a 720p-900p gaming beast
Thanks I was curious as to what's inside this console . That's it. Just curious lol. Got one yesterday and it's working fine 😆
Yet another fine teardown! Any plans on more contests with Mymatevince? Loved them! He is gaining on you, but will never catch quite up if I`m honest:) Nevertheless, believe there is potential in that concept. Hehe "The perfect amaount of thermal paste!"
Does the iFixit tools have a quad wing T426781D bit? I don't think so!
Hey, new here and love the channel! I have a question though! I’m wanting to replace my current series s fan with a static RGB fan… any advice which route I should go?
Do you think it will be possible to change the current ssd in X/S to a higher capacity Or is this proprietary
Few things are more satisfying than the phrase "viscous thermal paste"
Correction: once the air reaches the heatsink, it's then exhausted from the fan, not pushed on the right
that YEET though was the best.
Is it just me or does it sound like he is saying "Microstoft" ?
Are you able to try swapping the SSD for the series s and X to see if it turns on?
a lot of people have opened the consoles, and the ssd's are common pc ssd's. so upgrades are definetly possible. i don't know if there is a difference in the OS tho
@@gugubope21 knowing microsoft the ssd is likely tied to the mother board with some sort of locking feature or firmware i believe they have been doing this since the very first Xbox original which is annoying but not impossible to overcome.
@@goldend-pad5257 one X's are so easy to swap like just plug in the new hdd and run a system update through pen drive
@@al01martinez88 if so then that's a welcome surprise i wouldn't have thought they'd do that hopefully it's the same for Series X/S
Nice video. do you think this is a good console for traveling with a portable 16 inch monitor?
Man I truly felt that drop.
I like how he calls it a eject button despite it being diskless and how he completely glossed over the Wi-Fi card
The vent by the power button, is that an intake or outake in air flow, Thanks in advance :)
can you swap XSX SSD to XSS? I was thinking that this could work along with imaging. I'd rather swap the internal SSD to higher capacity one than buying expandable storage memory card
also can you take a few pictures of the SSD? would like to identify some parts
Waaooo if i want something to last series s is the way to go thanks buddy
I have a question:
solid state storage technology corporation?
So from which company is this coming from?
I waiting to see if this console holds up and to see if it has if/any reoccurring issues, since this fits my budget.
Thanks for clarifying, I was confused when you said eject, I had to rewind because I thought I heard something wrong. Your tear-downs are the best, especially applying just the right amount of thermal paste!
Since the internal ssd isn't soldered on, do you tihnk you could take one of the expansion 1TB ssd's out of it's platic case and install it in the console's internal slot?
Hi!! How it looks inside: Super Nes, Master System, dreamcast ?
Gosh I noticed that about the button but wasn't planning saying anything till I saw what the description said lol 😂
I wonder if you could put the 1tb ssd from the series x in the s?
I truly enjoyed tear downs, especially when done by my boy Steve. Big shout out to Tonicfix, best info videos on UA-cam👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it
How possible is it to upgrade the internal SSD? Need a video on that
Awesome work...
Thanks a lot 😊
If i take a shot of tequila everytime he says "xbox", i will pass out lol
At 5:00, I'm like... "Aww, that console is so small and cute!"
Thank You Man 👍🏽
0:05 oh My heart.💔
is that a proprietary SSD? can we replace it with a larger one?
I audibly gasped when you just pulled the Series X to the floor from the desk lol.
I love it how you just dropped the series x on the floor 😂
Lol!
it wasn't on the floor though, and it's probably empty.
@@MaxIronsThird that's right it is empty
My connecter under the white cable in my ps4 controller is broken and the spikes under it too
After you tear it down all the way like you did. Does it look like a M.2 2242 or M.2 2230 SSD fit in there? It'd be cool if we could replace it with a 2Tb SSD.
What is the blue thermal foam? Where can I get it and is it safe to replace it with a standard thermal pad? It seems like it is thicker than a thermal pad.
I was looking for this blue foam around the internet but could not find it
Is this SSD upgradable o replaceable??? The internal one
Does the black top vent pop out of place? I’d like to paint it white to be uniform with the console.
I like situations when something has exactly that name! Fan called "Fan" :-)
