Tommy, in my mind, is following how Jussi Björling sang this song. Jussi was a great tenor that Pavarotti once said that he strived to follow with his singing. You might want to listen to it, it's played during Christmas every year in my family.
Swedish sounds amazing ❤
According to wikipedia, the Swedish lyrics are translated from the original French version, but the title is translated from the English version. What I do know is that the lyrics in the Swedish and English versions are not the same, so the Swedish version is definetely not not translated from the English.
l love tommy johansson's voice and his vocal and range and breath control be mad crazy love him with reinxeed(now called majestica) he also has solo stuff too and plays many instruments guitar,bass,drums,keyboard/piano and the flute
Hi David. You said that it was a nice journey through the song with Tommy....and i agree...but i also want to say... what an interesting journey to follow you through all details!!! Thanks for that👍 I must say it again...this outro of Tommy is one of the best i ever heard🤟....and one of the best intro i ever heard is on another song by Tommy....Above the sky...with his band Majestica. Cheers from Sweden 🍻
So beautiful, you will love this in Swedish!!!
David, you've made me very happy tonight.
Tommy's swedish version is so much more emotional than his English version.
Whenever a new reactor takes on Oh Holy Night, the fans pressure them into also tackle the Swedish version. Not one, not exaggerating here, has then said other than that we were right in that choice. ❤❤❤
Yay - glad to hear it! Also happy that I chose well. :-)
This is also the evolution of his Angel We Have Heard On High.
Almost as epic as this.
And Tommy with Majestica in A Christmas Carol.album.is a completely different thing. He's taken the original Dicken's lyrics and used all kind of carols from everywhere and composed songs out of those elements in power metal. Himself as Ebenezer Scrooge and the other bandmembers as other characters. Bassist Chris David as Ghost of Marley ,which is the first song. Most of them have music videos to. Enjoy yourself listening through that album and try to pick out every carol hidden in the music.
Thank you David for this reaction! This song is how I came to know Tommy's music. Love your analysis and knowledge.
Thank you for taking us on this journey. Pointing out the details. I love to learn how to listen for such things and not just “oh I like this” and instead get a feeling for why I do like it. Why o don’t feel ambushed when he goes full metal even though it is a bit of a surprise the first time. This song was my first encounter with Tommy and I fell in love with that voice. It led me to Majestica and on to Sabaton and Wizdoom and more and I’m happy to be in this rabbit hole and here and there I meet people like you pointing out things to observe on more detail so thanks again. I really hope Tommy (@reinxeed) sees this one.
I very much enjoyed your reaction and analysis. You pointed out a lot of details that I really appreciated. I know you've reacted to Tommy before, but if you haven't seen his performances of "Winner Takes It All" and "You Raise Me Up" (sung 1 octave higher), I highly recommend those, whether you do a formal reaction or not.
I was genuinely THRILLED this morning to see you had reacted to this, and was excited all morning thinking about when I would get to watch it. I love all of Tommy’ songs but there’s something I especially love about his songs in Swedish. I’ve been playing this song a lot lately and your analysis helped me learn and appreciate so much of why I love it so much. Thank you for a wonderful reaction and analysis.
You got the Glögg absolutely perfect 👍🏼❤
Enjoyed this reaction, very informative, and the defying gravity riff was an amazing catch. 🤣Always love a kitty cat visit.
Lovely reaction, or should I say analysis. Not many reactors dig so deep into the song and Tommy’s arrangement, really loved it and also learned a lot. Keep up the good work 👍
O yes 💙 this is my favorite 🤎
Sounds incredibly beautiful, with this sweet video In Christmas atmosphere 🎅🏻🎄 and you'll melt.Tommy's talent is clearly insane.
What a powerful voice ⚡🎸
Melodic and very well done, both on vocals and guitar.
He has so many beautiful covers 👍🏼✅
Tommy is AMAZING 🤩
Greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱🙋🏼♀️
Awesome reaction 👍🏻 I learned a lot i never knew 👍🏻
You made my day! NEVER tire of hearing this! I have recommended this version SO many times but I'm so glad you stumbled upon this masterpiece without a recommendation!...And you added so many fun insights and nuances that most of us would never catch! Thank you! ❤🎄🌟
I'm doing the same as you. I always recommend reactors doing this by Tommy.
Great reaction!! You should check out Tommy’s version of Gläns över sjö och strand which is a very beautiful hymn!
I love Tommy and his music, and this performance is no exception.
While you liked him singing in Swedish, I have to recommend you to listen to two other songs but with other artists. Both songs are from Björn Ulveaus and Benny Andersson's (from ABBA) musical Kristina från Duvemåla.
Helen Sjöholm sings "Du måste finnas" and Peter Jöback sings "Guldet blev till sand". It's a live performance from Minneapolis, and it is extraordinary. Their performances are stunning. Highly recommend that!
I really liked your analysis, ty! And Tommy is our Swedish treasure ❤
Thanks for this, proud 🇸🇪 here and this is one of my favourite songs of Tommy. So much that I’m sitting here in the middle of summer and listening to this. 😅 🎶♥️🎶
Hope you do more Tommy and even Erik Grönwall.
Amazing Tommy ❤❤❤❤ Team South Africa 🇿🇦🇿🇦
Being Swedish it’s likely he’s grown up listening to Jussi Björling and Tommy Körberg’s versions more often than the “basic” English version you’re more accustomed to.
It would be interesting to see you do a breakdown to one(or both) of those versions aswell to see what little details you might pick up on 😊
I swear this song sounds better in Swedish than in English, unfortunately, but that's my opinion. And of course, your analysis of the song is really good.
I love the analysis, thank you. I return the favour with a translation.
It won't be perfectly word-to-word, I fix some word order to make sense in English.
______
O, holy night, o holy moment for the world
When the god-human stepped down to earth
To att one for the world's crimes and sins
For us he suffered the pain of death
And the ray of hope goes through the world
And the light shimmers over land and sea
People, fall down now
And greet your freedom with joy
O, holy night, you gave us salvation (X2)
See, the saviour has crushed our heavy shackles
Our earth is free, the heaven is now open
In your slave you see a beloved brother
And see, your enemy shall become so dear to you
The saviour brought us the peace from heaven
For us he stepped down into his quiet grave (or peaceful grave might be more appropriate)
People, fall down now...

Cheers from a snowy Stockholm, Sweden
This is not nice, it's fantastic 🌲🤘👏👏
I love your reaction - so interesting to hear it. I enjoyed every moment, Well done David!
An Ab6, rather. Which is madness. 😮 Soprano territory. But Tommy is Tommy. The Chosen One.
I would love if you could react to Tommys Phantom of the opera! Where he sings both parts.
Oh holy night. This is one of the best, but check out Körberg, but even more Jussi Björling, That’s the best ever.
He will today do a live christmas concert here on youtube! 9/12-23
Please do a listen to "Jussi Bjorling O Helga Natt"
My favourite description of Swedish (by a Swede by the way)
was English pronounced like German
Though they do have a softened g
which converts gaard to the English yard
and burg -> bury at the ends of names in English.
I LOVE hearing songs that I know in English in other languages. In part to see how things get translated in order to fit the rhythm and cadence of the song. There's a Japanese version of Neil Sedaka's Calendar Girl; it was sung by Sakamoto Kyu (of Sukiyaki fame), and while the English version goes through months, the Japanese lyrics go through seasons and longer stretches of time. In the same breath, the Japanese version of My Grandfather's Clock (Okina Furudokei) doesn't change a whole lot, other than moving some lyrics around to better fit grammatically (if that makes sense). Are there songs I prefer in other languages to my own? Yes! Dos Orugitas (the English version is great, but there's much more depth and soul in the original Spanish), and Guldet Blev Till Sand (Gold Can Turn to Sand) from the musical Kristina. Both songs send chills through me for different reasons.
Have you heard Norwegian soprano Sissel Kyrkjebo sing O Helga Natt? If not I highly, highly recommend it!
OMG David thought you weren’t going to keep pausing and talking. Spoiled it for me 🙄
I did state at the beginning that I would comment and emote over the top of the original (it wouldn’t be an honest reaction without this - plus it helps the video not get copyright claimed), and that I would pause and interrupt the analysis. May I suggest you support Tommy himself by listening to the original if you want a clean version? It’s linked in my description.
@@davidkreacts My band. Grumpy Friday. And I am notoriously never grumpy. Perchance it is no carbs/no dairy/no sugar = no joy ! Please accept my humble apology.
@@CrazyMaryJo No harm done. :-) I fully understand that a lot of folks will not want to watch the full length of my videos - my style is not that of a straight reaction. I appreciate your message, and wish you a good day.
@@davidkreacts only watch 2 long formats like yours. Insightful and always “educational “. Very much over wasting my time watching silly uninformed reaction channels. Watch live stream murder trials instead 🙄. Now THESE require a long attention span. Our live chat family always gravitates to 🎶 during lunch, breaks, and sidebars.
I thought he was not at all bothersome it was perfect, David you did fine
You talk and erupt video to much.
I personally believe I talk and interrupt just enough. That's the purpose of my channel, which I stated at the beginning of the video. I'm sure I could point you towards a wide variety of reactors who don't do this, if you would like me to?
Way too much talking. Seen the orignal 4 times but this was a turnoff to your content. This is why brammaboyreacts is a better reactor than you. He actually lets the music play, copyright be damned.
Then please feel free to watch his videos and ignore mine. Our styles are very different, and I certainly have no expectation for people to enjoy both. This is an analysis as much as it is a reaction. You could also just watch the reactions and then stop, if you happen to enjoy my reactions, but I certainly won’t take offence if you don’t. :-)
