Just got my VE-8 and already had the FS-6 pedal. The manual instructions on setting up the FS-6 is confusing and you made it clear. Now I'm ready to rock! Thank You!
Thanks for all the great ,"How to operate stuff " videos. I purchased the VE-8 a few years ago and it really makes my guitar and vocals sound much better. I also use the same FS-6 switch. The problem I have with the VE-8 is the looping time. It's only 80 seconds. It's enough time for a short chord progression but I like to loop a whole song and then play solo guitar over the first part of the song then return to live playing. This is very frustrating as most songs are over the 80 second loop time. I've since switched to an old Boss RC-50 which has a lot of loop time but does not sound as good as the VE-8. Anyways , just something to keep in mind for people that may need more looping time.
You can use the ve-8 with another looper. If you plug looper in b4 ve-8 it will use the ve-8 settings/effects, plugging the looper after ve-8 will not use settings/effects from ve-8. I used a boss-rc-30 for a very long time.
Thanks Deb, I’ll be purchasing a VE-8 now that I know you can program the FS-6 (which I already have) to perform these functions, same as you prefer. The looper portion of the VE-8 wouldn’t have been very functional for me if I could only stop by double tapping the loop button.
Thanks so much Deb! Your videos are the best and without a doubt the most informative out there . Your super intelligent and able to put it in a way that we can understand it .. Boss should be thanking you .
I’ve got a Boss Acoustic Singer Pro and I love the sound from that Amp. It’s a great bit of kit for smaller, intimate gigs. However, for performing in pubs and clubs where accessibility is key, TC Helicon surely is better due to the looping. Some people have a few pedals but for me, 2 at most is necessary and maybe a page turner. I’ve seen plenty of others have this same feeling. That’s why I opted for TC helicon in the end but this is a great review ✌🏻
Thank You,I've finally got it clearded up that a balanced cable can be used on the Boss VE-8,using the FS-6 ,i've ordered FS-6 so needed to know whwt i need to use sopme functions on the VE-8,i want to use a couple of extra harmonies over the usual settings,am i going the correct way...cheers. hello Deb thanks for your Video, very helpful. I have a question to ask you just to make sure before i buy the right cable. If you use the stereo caBLE as it is shown on your video can you change the values of CH1 and CH2 without being as pairs? What I mean? Can you set up the CH1 to option 3 and CH2 to 7 or because of the stereo cable only works in pairs? Like if CH1 is set to 3 then CH2 can only be 4, if CH1 is set to 5 then CH2 can only be 6 e.t.c. If the stereo cable works only in pairs (1-2,3-4,5-6 etc) when transmitting to the pedal then if someone wants to use the memories not in pair, like the example I mentioned, then he needs a different cable, the one that on one side has the stereo jack male and on the other 2 mono jack male. Could you check if you can set up Memories not in pair with the stereo cable?
Hi Deb, I heard that you can use a different footswitch pedal for the Boss VE-8, so I bought the Hotone Dual Footswitch Pedal Momentary 2-Way Pedal Foot Switch Controller from Amazon. But when I used it with the Boss VE-8 and set it up the way you instructed, it didn’t work like yours. I did some research and thought it might have something to do with the type of switch-whether it's latched or unlatched. When it's in play mode and I step on it, it doesn't just stop; it stops and deletes everything I recorded, like I'm double-tapping the unit. In the video I saw from you, when you step on it, it just stops without clearing or deleting. Do you know anything about this?
Hi Deb, thanks for you videos, I love ‘em. Can you toggle through the different vocal harmony options by using a foot switch on the fly. So that you could use any of the different harmony effects during the same song? Thanks for you help. David.
Hi David, I just purchased one and wanted to try that. I wanted to cycle through the guitar effects (chorus, phaser etc) with one external pedal and cycle through the harmonizer with the other. Sad to report it does not allow that. Only allows turning either of these on or off, just like the big built-in buttons. Wish they would release a firmware update to enable that!
Thanks John, thats very helpful. It’s a shame really as there are loads of songs where I really need to use different effects. Hey ho, I guess there’s a product out there somewhere that will offer that. Might be worth looking at the TC Helicon stuff?
@@davidturner9904 For me it's not a deal breaker as the rest of the features and the sound are so good. When I bought it I didn't consider that feature, but now I know it would sure be nice. The way I accomplish it now is I have a preset with all the settings (EQ, reverb, volume, enhance, etc) saved in memory. I copy that to the next adjacent memories four memories. Then I make a change to each subsequent memory in the Chorus effect category; no effect memory 1, Chorus memory 2, Phaser memory 3, Delay memory 4 Tremolo memory 5 etc. ( I customize each of those to my liking). Then I use my external pedal to go up and down the memories while I play. That's the guitar part. It gets more complicated adding harmonizer for vocals ; if you do the guitar effects manually, you could have presets for the vocals- normal, doubling, high, high and higher, etc., The feature we're looking for would sure help. Wish I knew someone at Boss who would understand how valuable that would be!
Hi Deb, thank you for your videos 😊 may i ask you: if i buy one boss fs 5u (to connect to boss ve 8), could i use this boss fs 5u (connected to boss ve 8) to record/overdub/stop/play/delete loops? Thank you, w the music 🎆
Deb: what external switch works best to toggle the harmonies on/off on the VE8? Sweetwater recommended FS-5U but then I saw your video. My foot's too big to just step on the VE-8 center button so I want to use an external switch that's easy to use. Thannks!
hello, I watched your video with interest. the question I'm wondering is, is there a difference between boss fs6 or fs7? why did you choose fs6? i got a boss ve8 , which fs would you recommend to me
Hey Deb , I read the directions and I don’t see anything on it but your way more informative than this manual . Is there any way to create the loop using the Fs-6 rather than having to hit the button on the ve-8 ? I feel that hitting that button sometimes is half the battle lol
Mary Blizzard you can use any effects pedal with this unit. You can experiment with different ways of connecting. A good start may be to plug guitar into effects pedal, then effects pedal into the ve-8. Make sure the ve-8 guitar effects are off. If you dive a little deeper into the menu settings (ve-8 manual pages 8-9 for guitar effects) you have an Access to many effects, including EQ. Just remember, if things start going south, you can always do a FACTORY RESET pg. 13.
I have no clue, i am a beginner and just bought boss acoustic singer live and this fs-6. Don't even know how to use them and what they do. Need someone to teach me 😂😂
I still don’t see the benefit of having it other than you can stop the looper pressing it only once as to stopping it on the VE8 you have to press twice.
Thanks so much for doing this. For a Ve 8 owner your channel is such a great resource.
I’ve been using my foot pedal to scroll through memories. This opens up a whole new world of possibilities for me. Thank you Deb.
I have used the boss foot switch with everything. Recorders, iPad, it is such a great add on. 👍

Amazing video, Deb. You certainly went to a lot of trouble to inform clearly and succintly. Thank you ! 😁
The thing is it's a lot of trouble for us but it appears It's not for Deb.

How do i select extra hamonies to only play with pedal...TY
You’d have to look at the manual.
how would you hook all this up with a rc10? and an accoustic pro amp?
RC10 output to the input of amp.

page 13 of VE-8 manual gives you the options for an external footswitch.
Hello, can you also use the fs7 foot switch with the VE-8? It’s essentially the same thing just smaller?
Yes you can use the FS7. Check manual for functions and setup.
@@DebErney thanks! Havnt got my hands on one yet, just looking into it. Thanks for the quick reply!
How different between fs5 and fs6 ?
For ve8 , which better?
Sorry for not good in english.
One is multi and one is single. You only use one for the ve8

It’s all in your preference. Which ever feels comfortable to you.
What type of cable are you using? The purple cable?
It is a Radio Shack TRS 1/4” that I’ve had for years.

can I use a 3 switch pedal with the VE-8? Such as a digitech FS3X?
As long as you get the correct polarity it should work.
hello, I watched your video with interest. the question I'm wondering is, is there a difference between boss fs6 or fs7? why did you choose fs6? i got a boss ve8 , which fs would you recommend to me
I believe the FS-7 is a newer model with different layout. They both do the same thing. Either pedal will work.
Hey Deb , I read the directions and I don’t see anything on it but your way more informative than this manual . Is there any way to create the loop using the Fs-6 rather than having to hit the button on the ve-8 ? I feel that hitting that button sometimes is half the battle lol
Couldn’t agree more. Unfortunately the external pedal only stops the looper. The looper on the VE8 leaves a lot to be desired.
Deb Erney I guess I could always get a separate looper and still use the ve-8 for the guitar and vocals right ?
hi what kind of AC adaptor you're using for boss ve8 ?
amzn.to/3yv7mpc
boss electric adapter.
Is there to turn off fx on the mike while you're talking !
Yes, there is a way to turn off effects to mic. Pushing the middle button toggles them off and on.
Do you know if you can add in line with the boss ve8 a acoustic preamp or 10 band equalizer pedals

I find myself having to do this every single time I want to use my pedal. Is this normal?
if you mean the settings, you should not. The plug in and set to use it, yes.
Your videos are great! You explain everything so simply! Could I use the boss FS-5L for stopping loops?
You can check the manual pages 12 and 13.
