Funny enough Gallipoli was talked about quite a bit in my standard public education where I grew up in the USA (the Pacific Northwest). Mostly because when it came to WW2 we focused on the Pacific Theater. Meaning there was a lot of talk of Amphibious operations. Naturally going back to Gallipoli and what a disaster it was. One factor that helped the rapprochement was that the U.S. and the British were able to settle their border disputes pretty much during the first half of the 19th century. The Oregon Treaty of 1846 settled the boundaries between the Oregon Territory and what became British Columbia, and the Webster-Ashburton Treaty of 1842 settled the line between New Brunswick and Maine. However, parliament began to rule the colonies more directly with new laws and taxes. The colonists protested believing they were an assault on their historic rights as Englishmen. Still, the colonies petitioned the King hoping for a peaceful reconcilation. When it was clear the King and Parliament would not listen. That's when we declared independence.

It irritates me somewhat when people say countries have 'friends'. They don't, countries have interests which may coincide with another country's interests. However, if two countries, even ones with interests that have coincided for as long as the US's and UK's have, found themselves with competing interests, they would act in their own, not the other countries interest, and if that caused the other country hardship, so be it.
Agreed, the USA had no such issue threatening France, Israel and the UK when they tried to take over the Suez Canal. No amount of "Special" relations keeps America from trying to maintain their hegemony. Nor did it save the British Empire from America using their leverage to drown the UK in debt payments and wrenching the countries out of their holdings. If only to keep the rise of communism from spreading. That said, the UK and the USA are friendly just nowhere near how much Anglophiles think it truly is. Speaking of Anglophiles, another pet peeve is when they describe Americas relation with the UK as that of a Child to their Parent bonus points if they describe Canada as the "good child that respected the rules" and whatnot.

I love that they tried to get the actors to do the varieties of British and American accents that would have common in those times and places, in the John Adams mini-series. So rarely attempted, even though they're not hard to reconstruct with some accuracy because historical linguistics has become quite a sophisticated field of study.
When I think of the relationship between the 2 nations I recall british soldiers taking POW's from danish soldiers (who were under the impression that the brits honored the Geneva convention), and forementioned brits then handed the POWs over to the americans who tortured them in Guantanamo prison with total disregard to any convention or standard of warfare. Biggest shame in the modern history of Denmark was to validate the Iraq war and the pointless death of so many.

Regards from Canada!
hope you are all fine in Canada, because here, it's scary.
@@maximilianolimamoreira5002 Hi Max, where are you?
You should react to whatifalthis I think I spelt that right¿ video on what if Germany won ww1 and what if the the ottomans survived it is different then alternate history hub it’s the same channel that has what if teddy Roosevelt won the 1912 election (I really like your videos)
Really good book recommendation. “Last Flag Down” tells the story of the Confederate ship the Shenandoah which also had roots in Great Britain during the Civil War.
You should do more history matters they're pretty good
I love history matters, they make great stuff
7:48 oh wow i didnt know this!!!
Just realized you haven't done part 2 on Oversimplified WW1. Hopefully soon!
I did the whole thing in one video. That said, I may redo it since it was one of my earliest videos and the sound quality sucks.
My mistake.😅
You have never reacted to history Matters?! They make amazing content!
Oh man History Matters channel is amazing!!!!!
There is an alternate history hub video about Theodore Roosevelt winning another election
You do a great job. Not sure if I made a comment yet, but I know I'm driving up traffic by every single little charecter I write about your amazingly grou dbreakingly innovative content on the platform known as UA-cam.
Never been so early
Instantly went to the original creator, gsvr them my abo, and came back here xD
11:21 alternate history hub has a video on that
It's only a Union Jack if it's flown from the jackstaff on a ship. Terrestrially it's still called the Union Flag.
Technically that is true but it's become a colloquial term, much like the "Confederate Flag" which is technically the battle flag of the Army of Tennessee.
I'm lso a big Anglophile from Texas and I am typing this from St. Andrews, where I am studying for a semester. I have been trying to get over here since the start of Pandemic. I love Texas and the US, but on a rainy day (figuratively rainy, given I'm in Scotland), Oxford is also a great place I could live.
Surely you jest about the other place.
Totally missed the Oregon drama
And also the Fenian Raids, which never amounted to much but were not good for U.S.-Canadian relations.
"The United States has no greater friend or ally than the United Kingdom"
[Canada has left the chat]
Awh we love Canada too. but it all starts with the UK
I like History Matters. Sometimes they get a few things wrong but they are pretty good at commenting on the video to acknowledge their mistakes when they make them
history matters best channel, iveseen them all
History matters is the channel that got me into history. I got degrees cuz if this dude
His "Why does exist" videos are amazing also
History matters is awesome
we love you British 🇬🇧
As a Brit I'm glad you think so highly of my country. Even though we were enemies during the Revolution and 1812-1815 I also have an interest in America. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇬🇮🇹🇦🇹🇻🇦🇮🇧🇲🇫🇯🇳🇺❤️🇺🇲
Hello from Britain!
Britain 🇬🇧 🤝🇺🇸 USA
My grandparents all immigrated to the US from Ireland. So I’m not rah rah about Britain. That said, on 9/12/01the Queen ordered her Guards at Buckingham to play the Star Spangled Banner. Extraordinary in that this is NEVER done outside state visits, and our anthem celebrates our final break with GB in the War of 1812.
Class act on the part of HMQEII. 🇺🇸🇮🇪🇬🇧
Do you have any videos on Charles 1 and his reign because win studying it for school now and I would like to watch a video if you have one
VTH, considering your location, have you heard the story of the SS Ohio? the only merchant ship to be played into harbour by a military band. It,s an epic story that potentially stopped Germany winning the war.
I have not. I'll have to look into that.
The civilian SS Ohio was given a military salute as she entered Malta's Grand Harbour by a Royal Navy band, because what she and her heroic crew endured in that EPIC convoy during Operation Pedestal.
That tanker WAS A WARSHIP!
Epic History WW1 !!!!! you'd be great at watching that.
6:18 He mad, he slammed his keyboard so hard 🤣
History Matters videos are short but dense. Every person in every scene is placed there on purpose. Usually you can figure out who they are (i.e. famous politicians etc.). Also pay attention to the portraits on the walls in the background.
I am going to Prague in the fall do you have any suggestion on historical places to visit while I’m their
