I'd never heard of Benjamin Grosvenor until a few minutes ago when I heard him play this very piece on the radio. Amazing. I've heard it played (on recording) by Andras Schiff, and in many spots had trouble making sense of it. But this guy Benjamin makes the same piece sound completely sensible, all moving logically along as if each successive note were inevitable. And his tone is crystalline, his sound exactly as Ken Anderson (previous comment) says: clear crisp, brilliant. And in the end, just so musical and delightful. Wonderful! And so young. Wow!
Wonderfully clear, crisp, brilliant use of a modern instrument of a Baroque piece. I think Bach would have loved it. Keep making music Benjamin! Blessings.
Complete focus on what he's doing. No swooning, no grimacing, no looking about the hall or at the audience. He does NOTHING to distract the listeners from the music, which is extremely fine.
Wonderful sound : surprised at what lightness and mysterious basses in the Ouverture ;he gets out of a Bosendorfer for this interior to be played at home in small rooma early keyboard music .
Technically this is superb, as good as that of Glenn Gould’s, his interpretation is very good but falls short of Gould’s interpretation, which is genial, superb, unequalled. This Partita, as all of Bach’s keyboard compositions, organ compositions excepted, were written for the harpsichord, which did not have any dynamic capabilities. Gould interpretation comes the closest to imitating the harpsichord, not only to Benjamin’s interpretation but to any other pianist’s interpretation as well. Glenn Gould’s Bach is more Bach than anybody else’s Bach.

Not lang-langing.

Two years before this superb performance Benjamin Grosvenor gave a stunning performance of the Britten concerto at the Proms, at the age of 19.
Splendido ❤
