It's trying to play those hidden metadata files from your Mac half the time (the ones that start with a dot) which is where the format error is coming from
This video is pretty helpful. I have this exact mp3 player which I never used it and it was tucked away for many years, until I recently discovered that I still have it.
My favorite MP3 player was the Samsung YP-F1Z. Tiny little thing built into a metal clip. Built in FM tuner, OLED screen, records sound from built in mic and FM tuner. Only downside was the stereo jack doubled as the charging port, so you need a special cable to charge it.
I think we're about to start using that in the UK too, now that - Having left the EU - We're no longer paying the membership fees for the use of Metric... 🙃
There are many parameters involved when it comes to encoding an mp3 file. It is possible that some configuration of the encoding software could be causing a format error because the mp3 player is only programmed to read mp3 made with much older software.
Little tip: the “FORMAT ERROR” problem comes from using a Mac to put the files on, but to explain that we need to talk about parallel univ- I mean S1 chips. Almost every cheap MP3 player in existence uses a system on a chip (SoC) called the S1, including this fellow (I should know, I have one myself). S1s do not care if files are hidden, they will display them regardless. When Macs load files onto a device, they will create a hidden file to track data about the file. For instance, Scarlet_Fire.mp3 will have a counterpart file called ._Scarlet_Fire.mp3 added invisibly alongside it. The S1 sees the .mp3 file extension, assumes this is a music file, and attempts to play it, but since it contains no actual MP3 data it causes an error. S1s generally play nicer with PCs anyways (especially XP-7 era machines) so I suggest using one of those to load files on in the future.
@GroupNebula563 I don't even own a PC. Maybe I can try bootcamp. Anyway, thanks for commenting. I've asked another commenter but to confirm do you think that revealing hidden files and deleting them after the transfer would get rid of any issues?

Yea these are a pain in the butt
how do I get rid of them? Do I reveal hidden files on the mac and just trash them?
@@Kelson01 Yes, that would work!
@@Kelson01 how the heck do you even reveal files in the finder? Can you teach me how?
@filefly ok thanks. Does macos just put them there when u drag files on? or will it regenerate them if I unplug and plug in
