Lori McKenna is a national treasure. There are very few songwriters that write songs so pure, heartfelt and honest these days.
I was about to comment about no credits to Tim McGraw and then I did a little research and discovered she wrote the dang song! I love finding original artists, especially with a song as good as this one. I'm doing my best to live by it every day.
I had the same reaction. Heard on a commercial and immediately contacted my cousin "Google". Listening to it now🙏🏾❤️💯

She is an original singer songwriter from south of Boston and her first 4 CD were played on the college radio which broadcast quite far range on mass coast , so she was already playing at 28 with her first 3 young boys all over the city and Cambridge and Somerville and other small towns she had a big following, had to call quickly by 2002 to get tickets or sold out ; they found her - she helped them, they helped her . In the last 5 years her albums are more like herself only she has often done the humble and kind thing and brought on co-writers and given lots of credit to them . Like faith and Tim did to her . Her mom died when she was young and he raised her and her five siblings, she’s always been an amazing singer songwriter; they helped her provide for her family that’s all - she’s still humble and kind .
Great song! If only more people followed Loris principles the World would be a much better place. Instead, it's a shambles I'm afraid to say. Too much greed, too many drugs, too much violence and machismo. Not enough love. Lori you are a shining light keep it up!! ❤❤

It maybe because they don't want to be humble, i know that before i accepted Jesus Christ i didn't like that part of this song. I thought humility was not good because being proud is what this world teaches.

I cannot believe that I have never heard of Lori McKenna until now. What INCREDIBLE talent! I am so glad I have discovered her music. She is now one of my favourites! I think this is the most beautifully-written and beautifully-sung song in the world! I wish all would live by these words: the world would be a much better place.

Was driving home tonight, radio channel surfing, and heard this song on some country channel with a fella singing. I hardly ever listen to country, but as a songwriter, I know a good song when I hear one.

Lori McKenna has been for 15 years, my favorite singer/songwriter. She's one of the most talented people that few people have ever heard of. I'm so happy that her amazing gift is finally beginning to be recognized publicly by the music industry. Lori...you are truly amazing.

I just had my grandchildren listen to it. They are both 12 year old boys, and this song is exactly what I want them to know and remember through out their life. Thank you Lori for writing such a GREAT song!! Since hearing it on the TV commercial, I listen to it almost daily, by all the different artists who sing it . Two years ago a re-found friend told me about this song and told me it made her think of me every time she heard it.
It was a very tough time as we were watching another old friend's life come to a close, much too soon. She said that the things she saw me do to help him and his family just exemplified that what the song means and how I have always approached life.
Those words she shared and the lyrics of this song have been a touchstone for me ever since.
I truly try to meet the expectations such sentiment expresses and hope that by example I can inspire others to show humility and kindness as they travel life's roadways.
I replay frequently to help me be aware to stay humble and share kindness with others, because we never know what they may be struggling with.
Life can be hard. Life can be mean. If we can do something, big or small to make it easier for others I believe we should try.
To my friend who shared this and told me that this song reminds they of how I live, I will always be grateful that took the time to express your thoughts and I hope that I will always be man enough to live up to the message it expresses.

I requested Lori McKenna once on WNTI which used to be an 'album rock' college radio station in New Jersey. They played it but after it was over the DJ said whinged about it being a bummer and how they were trying to be in a good mood or whatever. That's right, I said "used to be." They sold out to be a transmitter for a Philadelphia station now.

I had this discussion with a DJ in Atlanta back in the mid 2000's I was trying to get them to play a song from one of Atlanta's local singer songwriters....Shawn Mullins...he did a great cover of What is Life on the soundtrack for Big Daddy I think was the name of it with Adam Sandler. But he told me they are top 40 and can only play what the top labels pay them to play...the top artists. We had one station in Atlanta at that time that would play anything of good substance, I think they were considered adult alternative(?) they played Shawn's original music..not top 40 hits....but sadly they were only around a few years...that's when I gave up on radio.
I have been the ‘tech’ guy for northern New York church producing a simple single camera record of a church service for more than 20 years. While working on the July 19th service Lori McKenna, Jim (on keys) and Pat (on guitar) surprised me with your wonderful song ‘Humble and Kind’. It became an instant top 10 favorite. At possibly 1000 services I have recorded (I’m over 60) since 1997, an instant top 10 does not happen ever day. My compliments.
I have to guess God smiles as the song takes the ‘key under the mat’ and gives a solid rewind turn to this ‘in your face’ morality (lacking) starved society direction. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. rtk

I think possibly the most inspiring song I've ever heard. I love this song. There is a station here in Austin that used to play music like this. Now they are more mainstream. What a shame. All we need is another Starbuck and mainstream radio.
