To make a tutorial (demonstration). Technique of replacement of the decal (not easy ..) And if you sand the trunk wood the decal will be degraded! It will therefore have to be replaced. The belt was still in good condition. But I have it replaced to make a demonstration! For educational purposes. Thank you for your interest
Hello: What would you charge to clean a 1904 Edison Cygnet cylinder player? It played up until only a month ago! I’ve had it since 1994! Thanks, John -
Looks to me like you did a wonderful job of totally destroying the originality of this phonograph! Collectors and conservationists try to save as much of the originality of an object as they can. Looks to me like you just try to bling it up with a hokey horn for resale to the uninformed.
Hi Bernard the stylus on my gramophone has been dashed by a friend dropping the reproducer onto the drum with no record on it where can I send it to get it replaced or repaired have since made leather cover for the drum so won’t happen again
Try putting a rubber sleeve between the horn and the reproducer. Rubber horn connectors widely available on ebay. It will greatly improve the sound, although you will have to modify your crane to lift the horn about 1 inch. Very nice looking machine, much quieter motor than most gems
I gave this video a THUMBS DOWN vote in protest of its production. While the video was interesting and fun to watch, the background music only serves to distract, annoy, and piss me off!
Why did you destroy the original decal and replace it with a new reproduction one?

Because I can. SCUMBAG!
@@wadler8099 dude, this is by no means a rare machine.
I have many Gems myself and a couple have worse decals than this one in the video but i would never restore them!! shame it had to happen.
I only restore if absolutely necessary. Restored machines loose valuee compared to original.

@@TriBallable Sorry, I only work on my own machines.

Phonograh Doctor in Chicago. He has a website and has fixed things for me. Just Google him.

Wow. Amazing what a person with talent can do. Best looking GEM I have ever seen.
It is obviously not 1905 because it has a 2 - 4 minute switch. It had already been restored.
Why do people think that anonymous music enhances their videos?
A gem was never meant to have a Cygnet style horn. Generally a 10" cone, 14" bell and the later 19" morning glory.
The stylus is not diamond. It is sapphire.
Damn, you made that instrument look like Christmas!
@Levi Pierce reply and I’ll do
I own a Gem along with many other Edison machine. The Gem is the crappiest of the bunch. Just saying.
It‘s a wonderful old speaking mashine ! 👍🏻

Do you have any information on the Edison Fireside? Specifically the removal of the spring motor in order to replace the spring?
I would like to learn the 5cc Art of Repairing Vintage so kindly help me out with an suitable MOOC
Absolutely stunning great work.
I agree!
sound is quite poor...
It's over 100 years old, it gets a pass...
Is this the Victrola Guy’s train channel?
Sounds good but there is a rattling in the sound which means the rubber gaskets in the reproducer need to be replaced
The gaskets were good though so it must have been a worn out record
Superb work. I just got one of these and you taught me a lot about it.
Thank you
it's encouraging !!

Great work. The gem is a fascinating little machine to me. I hope I can own a maroon gem one day to display next to my standard.
You did the right thing bringing it back to it's former glory! beautifully done. :) good for another 100 years!
Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge it will help me with my Edison . Love the Cignet horn on yours by the way.
