Growing up, my mom always said and taught me that "If at first you don't succeed, try try again"! You never know in life until you try something that is for sure. The hedge will be gorgeous!
OH Jenny and "Sweet Thang" my misery with the hydrangea battle I have! 🙃 SO, I watched this TWO TIMES in a row and will do my best to ----do my best!!! I'ma give it (yet) another try! Thank ya'll~Ruthie
I propagated my hydrangea, which is a Incrediball I got about 30+ plants so I am starting my hydrangea Lane too ! It will not be the instant gratification like you got, but it will take a few years for them to get established and grow into beautiful bushes and that’s fine with me because it save me a ton of money.. lol 😂
@@ninaalexa6163 I do cuttings around late fall , early winter , or you can do it in early spring , like when you are cutting back for the winter or early spring . Just cut a piece of a branch , at a node , stick it into good potting soil & keep watered . Do a bunch so you can get a better chance . Keep the pot with the cuttings in a shady place . Then around early spring you will start to see growth coming on , let them stay in the pot for about another month to make sure they get some good roots . Or until they are about 6-8 inches tall .. remember to keep them watered & in the shade . I just use a old pot or 2 , and stick it close up to my back porch where it’s not getting any sun , then in the spring when it starts to warm up , I just keep watered , watch them every day for growth.. and wait until I think they have the roots , you can tug on the plant & if you get any resistance , you should have roots . Or you could dig one up & check . Then after that , I plant in the ground in the evening , give it Lots of water for the next week or so to make it takes . It’s according which kind of hydrangeas you grow , if it goes in the sun or shade . I have ones now that I started last year , they are 3-4 foot tall & already have blooms & doing great ! I know this seems like a lot , but it’s not .. very easy . A lot of plants /trees/ bushes you can propagate, it just takes a little time & patience. I hope this helps you & good luck ! 🌸🌸🌸
I’m so glad that I was introduced to you at the Grand Garden Show on Mackinac Island last year. I’ve been following you ever since. Your videos and info are all so helpful as I’m a Texas Zone 8a gardener. I’m planting a brand new garden starting today and I’m including some hydrangeas. My soil is HEAVY clay so you’ve just given me the exact recipe I need to make them happy. Now I’m ready to get out there and start planting 🦋
Your timing is impeccable! We planted 5 ‘Incrediball’s’ (this would be their 3rd season in the ground.) Of the five, two are crisping up and yellowing on the new growth. They were lovely until about a week ago. So, today I will now take the mulch back and amend the soil with compost & ground pine bark. 🤞🏻 this works! This gives me hope 🙏🏻
So many lessons and information in this video. I'm glad you're trying the Incrediballs again but with a different approach. I learned something new today regarding the raised bed mix! Thank you for that! These are going to be beautiful there. I like the idea of being able to cut some of the flowers throughout the season and hopefully producing new flush of blooms.
Weird, i just decided yesterday that i want to put in a hydrangea hedge! I was thinking panicle, but now you’ve swayed me to incrediball! ❤ This will be gorgeous!
I just planted a hedge of incrediballs along our driveway last fall. I have a live light hedge along our northern neighbors tree line. The incrediballs will be backing lavender, roses, clematis and dahlias. There’s a simple coated wire fence to keep our little dogs in that the roses and clematis will climb. We had a new leach field put in last fall so I had to replant everything. It’s all looking so great now! The first show has been 2500 bulbs from colorblends. The daffs are starting to fizzle out but tulips are still going strong. Can’t wait to see the incrediballs bloom!
You have the BEST videos: you are personable and entertaining and provide wonderful educational content. I am amazed that you don't already have 1M subscribers; you deserve to, and I feel confident that you will. Please keep up the great job!
Love your videos. You are very knowledgeable and are very enthusiastic when it comes to flowers. I won the beautification award in my area, special thanks to you.
I have mine in part shade, getting a bit of the morning sun but mainly facing western north location. I did find out with the strong winds from last year the branches were blown in one direction. I did not want to cut too much back since it hasn’t been the third year of growth yet. (Zone 5) 🌸❤️🇨🇦
Oh no 😂. My nightmare hedge lives again! After seven years of trying in zone 4 last year I finally tossed in the towel. I attempted to have 9 in a row and while some sat for years looking miserable, others couldn’t make it through the winter. Every year I’d have to replace one or two or three! To add insult to injury, I removed the Annabelle’s the were in that spot because apparently Incrediball was an upgrade… and only because they got a little droopy due to the weight of allllll of the flowers 🤦♀️. Back to Annabelle this spring. I have 9 sitting here waiting to get planted.
Glad you tried again with the incrediball hydrangeas. Maybe the soil was too much clay before or you some insect or critter in ground before. Maybe use little of the Bayer product every year like on your roses.
Following along to see how this hedge turns out! Interested in how these plants do in full sun in the south. We’re considering adding a hedge of white wedding (or similar) hydrangeas at our house.
Love the incrediballs! Wish we could put in full sun here in NE KS, zone 6 but they fry to burnt cauliflower heads here in the hot sun even with consistent irrigation watering. Our local nursery has a hedge of them in a part sun location and they’re absolutely gorgeous. We can grow limelight’s in full sun with no problemos though. Hope this new planting goes well, it will be beautiful.
I love hydrangeas. They are so many different ones that are so pretty. Every year when Proven winners comes out with a new one I always get a few to add to the garden. The only ones I have had problems with are the Home depot and Lowes version. They don't ever seem to come back or do well.
Love Incrediballs!!! I wish I could grow have some in my yard but my herd of deer (10 to 12) every night would just destroy them. The deer are beautiful but they definitely limit what I can plant.
O we shall have to compare notes this summer! 💗 I am also 7b, about an hour south of Ashville. I planted an Incrediball blush hedge last fall on a west/northwest facing brick wall. It will get afternoon sun till sunset but it's more indirect sun. I'm really curious to see how they do. They are currently sending up new shoots and loaded with blooms!
I wish power planters were available in the UK as I am on chalk and the ground is so hard to dig. Regardless I love the idea of a hydrangea wall and something I need to work into my garden plan. Thank you for the inspiration xxx
Updates? I planted an incrediball hedge also and they take a ton of water. They’re sheltered against the front of my east facing home but the one past the corner wilts constantly. I’m guessing from more sun exposure.
Jenny I have always been interested when you have used your augers. But I would really be interested in you showing some time. How do you store them specially, all the big ones.
Jenny, I’m curious as to why you planted the hydrangeas above the drip line…or did you? Since the hydrangeas are in full sun, I would have thought you’d run the drip line above the plants so they’d get watered, but not saturated because of the angle of the slope. Could you share how you addressed the drip? Thanks so much. 💚
My incrediball died back on me this spring too. It had been in ground for 2 full summers and flourished each year. It started out beautifully and then we got a huge temperature shift right as I fertilized and then they just slowly died back. I mean we went from 55 to 80 degrees in a 24 hour period and it stayed hot for almost a week. I’m on the prairies of Canada so that’s highly abnormal for us in April/May. Choosing to fertilize when I did was probably to stressful and on it and slowly died over the summer. I replaced it as well. I need those big beautiful blooms.
I would love to hear a reply to this for my zone 7a garden. Should they be in more shade?! I lost two of three of my brand new ones. They looked great for a couple of months and then died.
Question about the power planter? Do you have rock in your soil? Our best crop is rock. I mentioned this to my husband and he’s afraid I’ll hit rock and break my wrist. A big auger doesn’t even work for farm corner post our ground is so rocky.
I was looking for spacing tips and was pleasantly surprised to find out you can plant these in full sun with drip irrigation in NC zone 7b, which is the same as me! Do they not burn at all on drip irrigation where you are?
Can I ask how you chose which hydrangea type to plant? Why incrediball over limelight? Only because in my own mind I've heard limelight is easier to grow?
Jenny, did I not hear you talk about those not doing well in full sun for you? I'm in the same zone about an hour away from you. I'm adding some more incrediballs and I'm trying to decide their location.
I’m so torn!!!! I have 50 Incrediball hydrangeas ready to be planted. I originally had a hedge spot to plant which was shielded from the afternoon sun in Clayton, NC Zone 8a but now with a fence put in it might not be able to get 6+ hours of sun. There is another hedge spot I could plant it in but it is blasted with full sun. Which side should I risk it in?
Do you happen to know why some limelights have reddish new growth stems? I planted about 40 this March and some have a beautiful, reddish stem color while some have plain green. Why is this?
I just love your whole patio area. The design is gorgeous as are all the plantings you have done. The incrediballs will be an icing on the cake.
Thank you so much ❣️
Growing up, my mom always said and taught me that "If at first you don't succeed, try try again"!
You never know in life until you try something that is for sure. The hedge will be gorgeous!
Love seeing your family working together. Should be beautiful.
That hydrangea hedge is going to be amazing! We always have challenges with hydrangeas, so we always want to learn more about those! 🙂
I am so happy that you put the hydrangeas back in that area. I love it!

Love them, but when wind storms and hard rain comes thru…they can get destroyed due to heavy flowers and weak stems😮
I'm so glad you tried it again Jenny
I can’t wait to see these grow in and form a hedge! They are going to be beautiful Jenny.
Great planting. I bought incrediballs last year and there great because of you and Laura. Thank you so very much for sharing this with us.🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

Not on topic, but when should I apply another dose of the bayer 3 n 1 rose fertilizer plus beetle protector? I treated once at the beginning of March.
I use it every 4 weeks on my roses, you’ll have to do a bit of experimenting (and read the instructions) to see what works best for your garden.

I thought you said we can’t amend soil for hydrangeas that it will cause bathtub effect, so now I’m confused on what to do
Hi 👋 Jenny 🎉❤🌺🌸🌹🌷💐🌾🌼🌻🌞
Maybe move the drip tape to above the plants - with the slope the water won’t go “ up” to plant? Deer/ rabbits also a
Possibility for demise?
I love the look of hydrangeas but I can’t grow them in a zone 9b; any possibility that one can be developed for higher zones?
I hope plant breeders are working on it!
