Remember that presets are just suggestions, not exact solutions for your problem. Dropping presets without questioning any of the settings, or experimenting with variations is a real naive and limiting way to mix and learn. For example dropping a compression preset and just keeping it as is without changes is wasted potential, because your source material is going to have it's own threshold and attack/release requirements that the preset never knew about. Learn your tools.
Sure but certain sources have certain consistent trends of what they need and if the preset is catering for that particular source it's gonna be pretty spot on...every recording is unique and all but getting too anal about dialing in your compression for an ''airy female vocal'' when the ''airy female vocal'' preset is already 99% of the way there anyway is why a lot of people don't ever finish their projects...of course I agree with you that you need to learn your tools in order to realize when you don't have to tinker and the preset is just fine.
@@NOLINK74 no shit. they didn’t say “if it sounds good solo’d then it sounds good in a mix guranteed”. youre disagreeing just for the sake of disagreeing by injecting your own assumed, cherry picked context. Which is weird af btw
@@fiachnaodonnell7895 exactly this. the same mentality and reason why people will write a legitimately good song then butcher it because it didn’t adhere to some abstract notion of what a mix “should be”, placing value on methodology and how waveforms look over how the shit actually sounds lol. bass sounding creamy af. thank you kenny an ty fliko! i wander : since the signal is mono and isn't being spread before the mid/side, what is the mid side doing? you can't get more mono than mono, right ?
On the plugin he’s using he set it to mono below 500Hz so everything below 500 is mono but everything above is getting pushed to the sides I’m not 100% sure tho
Yea, I think stuff like this comes from guys that are self taught. When he said "I think bass in mono sounds good" and I'm thinking.. hasn't that ALWAYS been the case?
wait so where do i put the unison midi chord pack
I leaked pierre bournes sauce if you’re willing to learn

OK here's my question, how did you get your DI signal to already sound so bassy? Mine doesn't sound bassy like that
