My brother is giving his 88 s10 2wd 4.3 vortec. I will give it a lift. He's going to give to me when I move out of California back home in Washington State. The truck is over in tumbwater WA.
So I just bought a truck with this motor and the tube At 8:00 is missing in my truck. The valve cover just has the hole? Do I panic now? Lol what the heck is that hose for?
Have you found an answer for this? I have a truck with the same motor and snapped the tube while working on something else in cold weather, and cannot figure out what it is so I can replace it.
Definitely 90 inch or just hand tight moderately. I broke mine doing 90ftlb as he said honest mistake though. and now hoping I can get someone to pull out the broken part it’s so small so I’m praying it can be drilled through and be taken out got to go to junk yard pray I find the bolt
@@B.Dizzler93 yea dude trust me just do moderately hand tight those bolts are also end threaded so once once it reaches where the threads end if you go to tight you’ll snap it.
Mine lifted up without too much trouble. Don't think I even needed to pry it. Putting the driver's side back on I had to wiggle it around some of the other stuff that was in the way
Got the manual on eBay. I have the complete set and I can tell you right now, it's superior to Chilton, Bentley, etc. I just posted a picture to my community tab of all three books ua-cam.com/users/BuildYourOwncommunity
Too bad you don't have the 4.3 - I use to feel the same way when I first got the truck. Not anymore. By the time I am done this 4.3 will be making nice power and one day, I will put a V8 in it, but I'm going to have fun with this V6 first. Everybody just wants to engine swap. Same is lame. Thanks for watching!
I purchased the gasket set from RockAuto and this is the information I just pulled together from their site. These are for the 4.3L V6 - MAHLE VS50211 # 10201397
You might want to recheck your torque value's inch pounds not foot pound's so about 7.4 foot pounds. You squished your gaskets. I have come close to doing this several times.
your engine internals have a ton of build up. Throw a can of seafoam in the engine oil, drive it for 500 miles, change oil. It will help get rid of that crud and should run smoother.

Why did you skip videoing the removal of the valve cover, I mean that's the whole point in replacing the gasket.
That truck has a sweet sound !
Thank you!
The hardest part of the job was dropping the dip stick bolt and spending forever looking for it...
How did you get the passenger side valve cover in? I'm having difficulty getting around all the hoses.
I am enjoying these videos

Nice truck and good video.
Thank you and glad you found the video helpful.
I thought you'd be the first to show how to remove the "heat stove tube" from driver's side valve cover but ig not.
I have the same exact truck & I was wondering if you can make a video on replacing the exhaust manifolds
What type and size of hose did you use to connect your PCV valve to the throttle body? Thanks!
Where did you find that MAHLE gasket kit what’s the part number
How many miles on your truck and was that the 1st time the gaskets were replaced?

@@obamagaming6838 I ended up throwing on a small pop in air breather, a crank case air breather
Did step by step thanks bud💯

90 ft lbs for the valve cover bolts? Or 90 inch lbs?

True! Was wondering 90 ft lbs seem too much, 90 inch is reasonable, thanks
this is what I came to the comment section for, no way in hell them bolts are gonna take 90 ft lbs.

I caught that and was like damn, that's tight for a valve cover!
Thanks 😊
You're welcome, thanks for watching
@@BuildYourOwn I ended up junking it too much rust. 😡
So now i know what it looks like 😁
I think if you have a C/K series Chevy truck and you think its leaking from the same place... well I think you could absolutely fix it yourself
I have the same truck with a short bed and 95. Is yours a stick?
Nice truck, mines an automatic
Harbor freight degreaser and a bucket really good comes in a 1 gallon bottle. You dilute for degreasing.
How did u get them off i tryed on my truck on the driver side first and couldnt get it off so i just replaced the bolt gaskets for now

Is this the same job as the 1988 5.7 350 engine?
Its exactly the same procedure
88-95 tbi systems are the same. In short, yes.
I wish you videoed as you worked on things
Where did you get that manual it seems much better than the general Haynes manual for 98-88. I have an 88 and it would be great to get that instead.

Rear main seal is the worst followed by timing cover gasket
I use felpro any time I can, just plain better than OE, normally I would use OE parts, but this stuff is just better built and lasts so much longer.
What was your truck doing that called for this job?
I could physically see that the valve covers were excessively oily, greasy and leaking.
Too bad you don't have the 5.7
Tell your truck is big Brother said hello✌🏾

@@BuildYourOwn thanks, greetings from Mexicali, Mexico.
You're very welcome! Enjoy that truck!
would this work on my v8 Cheyenne ?
The procedure should be exactly the same
