- In this video we start removing the timing belt cover on our 3.0L Diesel Engine Land Rover Discovery 4. This is part 1 of our video series showing how to replace the cambelt on the SDV6 engine.
Thx guys for the proper video on this subject. Been waiting and searching for some time. Although mine is a TDv6
WIlson Ng its the same engine buddy SDV6 and TDV6 are both more or less the same so jobs like this are comparable 👍🏼
I was charged £1,500 by my local Land rover dealership to do this job. Now I know it was money well spent.
With this money you can do yourself at least 5 times!
Another great video guys... As you make some really good items to enhance the Range Rover, it occurred to me that perhaps a good product would be a "window" in the timing belt cover to view the condition and perhaps read the information about the belt age etc as you pointed out in the video,, great piece of research info...
Thanks so much i just did mine and there's video helped a lot thanks 👍👍
Glad it helped
I watched your wonderful video because the bolt on the accessory idler pulley broke, fortunately did not come out, I heard it touching the fan, and I had to take the front cover off. Anyway, after reassembling the Performance Restricted lights come on if I rev past like 2500 rpm.
Hi
I am in the US with a 2016 full size range rover and we call them TD6 here. do you know if that’s the same engine?just got quoted $5,700 by LR for both belts.
thanks for the great videos!
Great videos and details. I am going to change mine in few weeks. Would you mind tell what manual you are looking in the videos for the diagram??
This is part of the Land Rover TOPIX manuals - these are available online - you need to register and pay for access to these manuals.
@@L663 Thanks. I will look it up.
Was the vehicle on Nutral gear from the start?
Just when you think the Audi V6 are nightmare. A Rover "marvel " shows up. :)))
I am impressed talking about the water pump pulley bolts “PCD” - you’d only get that from a British educated engineer ! ( or an engineering book reading numpty ) no offense. I was genuinely impressed. I’m not going to educate anyone else by saying what it means other than to say the p is pitch. Mostly used in gear cutting terminology though
Been waiting for a video like this. Cheers 👍
Well done! And thanks for the video. Would that be the same procedure for a disco 3 tdv6? And is it not worth it changing the water pump as well?
Jonathan Sanchez I would be checking the oil pump. The belt tensioner bolts to it and the earlier ones had a week pump causing the tensioner to snap off, causing engine failures.
Yes the TDV6 was 90% the same from memory - it was the same lock tool kit for sure !
Water pumps dont seem too much of an issue - but some 2.7 engines you need to change the oil pump
Defo do the water pump as the bolts on them sometimes just brake off! I’d recommend replacing water pump bolts and tread lock and torquing them! (Former JLR tech now self employed).
And also dont forgot replacement of the oil pump as they also fail causing the belt to fall off and righting off the engine in the process...! 😢
Question - does the transmission need to be in neutral before starting?
I'm thinking I might not be able to turn the engine over (at the crank pulley) if it's still in park? I'm about to tackle the 3.0D in my XF S jag - looks like the same motor to me.
And a great video by the way. Big help.
Yes the motor should be the same... yes you will need to put into neutral to rotate etc. Let us know how you get on !
Hallo, I have Disco 4 3.0 euro 5 and I want to change the glow plugs. I have a problem with the oil separator, I must just pull it out or unscrew it ?? And another question, I must unscrew the injection pomp to remove last glow plug ???
Very informative .many thanks. Can you tell me if this engine is the same as my Dec 2013 Range Rover L494 3.0 V6 diesel ( that’s new shape ) cheers
Terry.
Yes, the only difference will be getting access, which covers need removing etc. - Ian
powerfulukltd many thanks. It’s not due just yet .
When ever I watch videos like this I regret buying my LR4 reminds me that it was designed by idiots
Do you need to take the top off the body to change the timing belt all the turbo😟
When should a sdv6 discovery 4 timing belt be changed. Mine has done. 67,000Km kindly please advise sir. Thankyou.
can you advise as to what manual you are referring to please. My RRS has the same engine..
Yes it is the Topix Manual - google LAnd Rover Topix
Hello. Could you please advise this is same engine and detail as my 3.0 sdv6 ( early 2014) L494 Many thanks
T.
What software are you using for the manuals
write me will send 7000 page pdf
Is there a belt at the rear as well? If so how can you change that without removal ?
Yes there is a rear fuel pump belt and its a pig ! not tried it yet but i have an engine in the workshop and the plan was to do the video on that one.
You took alot time to do this at least by this time you should be doing the back one.
“For now, the crank nut can stay ..” 😳
More freelander 1 stuff please
where did you get your service manual , i need a one urgently . Thanks
if you google JLR Topix will find the access to this information but you need to create an account and pay.

That coolant was rusty as heck! Previous owner clearly didn’t care much for maintenance.. rusty bottle and fluid I walk away..
The coolant is orange coloured new from the bottle.
how KM to change timing belt ?
7 years or around 180K KM ( 112K miles )
Ps. They also did the rear belt as well.
Yes thats the tricky one !
Is that a ford engine?
Ativa as legendas, pois eu acompanho os seus vídeos aqui do Brasil. 🇧🇷
is the fuel injection pump belt not replaced??
Not in this video, we are still trying to figure out the best way to do that. - Ian
Hi - i have an engine out of the car and was planning on doing the video for this when i get a moment. Although i cant see that the pump belt is as critical - its also a real pain to do in the car ! its so close to the rear bulkhead.
@@L663 the place that does my car uses mirrors and their smallest handed mechanic to do the rear belt. They also said that its important to do as if it does snap it can do quite a lot of damage to surrounding parts. (Stonelake Land Rover Halifax)
@@L663 you take the body off the chassis to do the cambelt and rear pump belt.
@@paulockenden4278 These can be done without taking the body off ! I know this for sure !
It's done 200k and you're not doing the rear belt??!
The hpfp belt will not damage anything if it breaks, so why not wait, maybe you'll never have to change it
@@srnunan4783 If it does snap it can often do a lot of damage to the loom and casings - always best to do it
