A few more comments... a pro told me that he doesn't like 80hz xover on the sub because the kickdrum falls around that point. He wants the sub not the top to produce the kickdrum. Crossing over the top will allow it to play louder with less power. Less power reduces the chances of blowing anything. Another tip is to high pass the woofer. Look up the specs and set a high pass filter at the -3 point. It will often be around 40hz. The DBX crossover has a button to push to accomplish this. The hp filter on the sub keeps it from trying to produce wasteful low freqs. You save your power for what really counts in dance music and that is the 40hz to 60hz area. That's the thump that you feel in your chest on the dancefloor from hard hitting subs. So there you have it. I set my sub hp to 40hz, lp to 100hz. The top will xover at 100hz. I do make a few adjustments based on the room. Speaking of that. The DBX Driverack does a good job on EQing the bass. I run the RTA. Then I adjust the recommened settings with the mid and highs back to flat. I only go with the recommended low freq bass settings.... Works great for me ...
Hey bro thank you very much for your help you have given me great advice ! One little thing tho i'm planning to buy ELX112P for backup, have you heard anything or did you test them ?
The most common xover point for pro work is 100hz by far. Generally most of these types of systems will offer either 80,100 or 120 as a possible xover point. I recommend that most systems start by trying the most common which is 100hz. I will drop to 80hz if I notice that the system sounds boomy. This happend a few weeks ago do to a wooden floor. I rarely set the point at 120hz. I did do this a few times back during the summer when I was outside and knew that I was going to push the small top speaker really hard. My top was only a 10 inch. I left a gap by putting the top at 120hz and the bottom at 100hz. Most ears could not tell the difference. Some pros actually leave a gap to clean up muddiness.
Yup, thats what Ive been trying to do at my gigs, but I never seem to have enough time or there is some volume limitation for a proper sound check. Every space is different. I'll have to try the gap, sounds like it would work for a setup like that.
Love the video bro so if i set my hpf for my tops at 80hz and above and my sub at 80hz and below what do you recommend to be my low point for the sub for example 30hz to 80hz ? I dont quite understand where to set the low pass filter... Thanks
Thanks bro! I think you answered your own question. Whatever you set the top at, set the bottom. I actually leave the this EV sub now at 100hz and the top at 100hz when in use together. Each speaker has its own set of frequency capability so the sub will produce everything below 100hz and the top everything above.
First and formost good job on that video. I'm a dj from Canada and i own a pair of ETX 12P. I'm looking for a good Sub and i heard the ETX 18SP always clipping red. Please can you tell me from the day you brought your sub till today if you have seen or heard about ETX 18SP clipping red. Would i be safe for 5 years up if purchase the ETX Sub 18SP ?
I own the ETX 15 sub and I have not had any issues, the limit light will blink if I push them too hard, but it wont shut down. The 18sp sub is awesome. I would use it in live mode and factory 100hz setting.
Also I think it would be a great addition to the 12p tops. If you ever notice the tops really limiting try crossing them over at 80hz or above. Anyhow if the sub is set at 100hz then tops should be as well if you are using them together, above and below. If they are at a distance from each other then you can see whats best for that room.
I understand but I would not call these cheap speakers . I do expect them to be louder and then my prx18 xlf . Im wondering if im doing something wrong ? Idk
What is your setup going into the speakers? Your DJ mixer? No they aren't cheap, but I definitely think you can get em for a better price than a JBL or QSC from my experience. Also the ev18 sub does allow more mid bass as it goes up a bit higher so I would try that first. Bring the crossover up and adjust your tops at the proper crossover point. Try all crossover settings. You might find one you like. Also the tops will limit less if at all if you take out the low frequencies. Leave that for the sub.
djob3y Not in my case, I think people run their setup differently, mixers in the red and whatnot. Also people tend to expect way too much from self powered inexpensive speakers.
Bro that is just a 31 band equalizer but not a crossover and u have a sub and a top so just with this EQ u wont be able to separate the sound from top to sub!
TOPCHOICEDJSELECT hahaha yeah bro!! you are giving a tutorial with the wrong equipment..!!! Your next video tutorial is gonna be talking with your turntable and how a cdj works ...GIVE A BREAK!!!!
Watch the video again and again and read the description. I can't help you. You are so confused! Again sorry you don't understand what Im saying in the video. I even say its an equalizer lol!!! Crossovers split frequencies, I use the equalizer to visually show you where the frequencies split. Sorry, you wouldn't understand. Anyhow good luck.

Preciated thank you very much !

Dj Jest Jamm Shoutout to you homie! Glad I did it. This vid is for those who wanna understand sound.
Hey TOPCHOICESELECT, Great video, i understood the content 100%........love the camera, it is so clean, what camera do you have?
Thanks bro! That is actually a flip video camera. Its my spare camera and still works well.

Don't you use the settings built in IE 12p on tripod with 15sp sub?
cerberusnights Yes I do and they are fantastic.
Hey TOPCHOICESELECT, if you have the Driverack PX can you do a video like this one......again really nice video bro.
I'll see if I can, Im real busy with gigs at the moment. I'll keep you posted.
Ok.
What pole are you using to put the tops on the bass?
Its an EV asp1 adjustable pole I believe
a lot of people giving this a bad rep . also they limit early ?
